SEAHAWKS COME UP SHORT AS PANTHERS ADVANCE TO CONFERENCE GAME

Seattle had jump out to an Earl lead as Jenkins found George on a 20-yard fade route to go up 7-0. Carolina had responded on the next drive; going 82-yards in 7-plays to tie the game on a 5-yard pass from Young to Evans. Seattle scored before the end of the first quarter when Gronkowski went down the seam for a 15-yard score.

Carolina made amazing adjustments for the second quarter and held the Seahawks scoreless, a feat few teams had done throughout the season. Carolina then added 13 points of their own to take a 20-14 lead into halftime. Janikowski made a 31-yard field goal on their first possession. Vince Young on a designed quarterback draw ran for a spectacular 33-yard score running over Antoine Cason en route. Janikowski kicked a booming 53-yarder as time expired in the half to push that lead to 20-14.

Carolina continued to stifle the Seattle offense as they were held scoreless again in the third quarter as Glen Nichols missed two field goal attempts from 33-yards and 45-yards which didn’t help. Carolina added another 24-yard chip shot field goal to make it 23-14.

The final quarter both teams exchanged touchdowns. Carolina first as Steve Smith Sr caught a 45-yard score as he beat Cason off the line and Hutchinson wasn’t able to get over in time as he walked in untouched. Seattle added a late touchdown run of 1-yard by Lynch but the comeback was too little too late.

Seattle lost to the Panthers, 30-21, as Carroll was dejected after the loss.

“I’ll take a long hard look at myself in the mirror over the coming weeks and determine if what I’m doing is really working”

“All the credit to that Panther defense. They found a way to shut us down, and we weren’t able to recover or adjust. Some days are like that” spoke Claybrooks after the game.

ADRIAN PETERSON SCORES 3 TOUCHDOWNS EN ROUTE TO SUPER BOWL VICTORY AND MVP HONORS

The Carolina Panthers would not be denied their Super Bowl ring and boy did they ever put a GIANT “!” on it. The Carolina Panthers shut of the Baltimore Ravens and unloaded their offensive firepower to cruise to a BLOWOUT victory, 42-0. The SBMVP, Adrian Peterson rushed for almost 150 yards, a pair of rushing touchdowns, as well as caught another.

The Carolina defense got to 2nd year pro Lee Schroeder and sacked him 3 times, but always seem to be buzzing around his throwing shoulder and causing a myriad of incompletions. He went a meager 11 of 26 with an interception. It seemed the moment was bigger than him, as counterpart Vince a young went for 19 of 31 with a trio of touchdown throws.

After the game, Panthers head coach John Fox was beaming with pride. “Our defense was lights out, it was the first EVER shutout in a Super Bowl and it feels good. It also feels GREAT to win twice in three years and we wil enjoy this moment before we go for a third championship next year!”

          COACHING CAROUSEL

The Seattle Seahawks were in a precarious position...their entire coaching staff had expiring contracts.

Pete Carroll had received interest from multiple teams, Minnesota and San Francisco. Seattle offer him a 5-year deal worth close to $10M to stay in Seattle, and he told the Hawk Nation that “he belongs in the Pacific Northwest” after the ink had dried.

Next up was offensive coordinator Bates, who had garnered interest from the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns to become their head coach. While the offers were tempting and he was grateful for them, he chose to stay in Seattle and help to bring another trophy back to Seattle for a bargain 3-year deal worth $1.47M.

Their defensive mastermind Bill Belichick was sought after by the Rams, Bills, and Raiders. It took a pretty penny to pry him such offers to lead the team, but 3-years for $4.5M was enough to keep him terrorizing opposing offenses as a Seahawk.

They kept their special teams coach, in Marciano as “nobody knew as much as he did” GM Schneider told media.

              RE-SIGNS, CUTS & RE-TOOLING FOR NEXT YEAR

There were a handful of players with expiring contracts, as well as a handful of players heading into Restricted Free Agency. There were two players, which GM Schneider knew he would cut. One was running back J.J. Arrington and the other was wide receiver Ben Gibson. Arrington was regressing quickly, and Gibson was a salary cap move.

There were 5 players hitting RFA:

              CB: Benjamin Leon
              SS: Andrew Buckley
              RT: Deunta Stevens
              MLB: Eugene Bronson
              LE: Vandrell McMillan

Seattle offered their #1 cornerback $2.33M but he received an offer from the Washington Redskins for 3-years $21M + $5.67M in bonus cash. Seattle would receive the Redskins 1st round pick, 18th overall. While the offer was tempting, Seattle didn’t want to let Leon walk. They matched the offer, because he was a young anchor to their defensive backs.

Andrew Buckley & Vondrell McMillan didn’t receive any other offers from other teams, so it was an easy choice for the two young players.

Deunta Stevens was more than qualified to become a starting tackle in the NFL, as he learned behind talented Pro Bowl, Winston Justice for 3 years. Kansas City saw how talented he was and extended him a contract for 3-years, $16.8M + $4.62M bonus cash. Seattle knew that Justice was getting older and his contract was ending soon. They REFUSED to let Stevens walk and matched the offer.

Eugene Bronson was a superstar in the making as he was already compared to HOF caliber talents like Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis, but he was the backup to young stud Tremain Forbes. While there would be no draft pick compensation, Cincinnati offered him $15.5M + $3.48M bonus money. As hard as it was to see a talented guy like that go, GM Schneider had to put the team first and hoped to see Forbes take another step forward in his already rapid development, despite him being on an expiring contract.

              —————

The team faced one very big hurdle that they had yet to face...a lot of very talented players, with expired contracts about to hit the open market for the highest bidder. One being Kendall Jenkins. While GM Schneider and Kendall’s agent had exchanged multiple offers, the two sides couldn’t agree on a final price. Schneider chose to let Kendall walk, even though he could sign with any number of teams. The Hawks did resign Chad Roberts to an 3-year contract worth $5M + $1.1 bonus money to stay the backup to superstar Claybrooks.

Lawrence Jackson was holding out on the Seahawks. When asked by media he said “my agent will talk with the Seahawks organization about any contact disputes that arise. I’d love to stay a Seahawk, Coach Carroll is a great coach. I just want what I feel I am worth.” After much negotiations between both sides involved, a new contract couldn’t be finalized and the holdout continued into free agency.

Tremain Forbes, who was the reason the team let fellow linebacker Eugene Bronson sign with the Bengals was in need of a new contract. The team wanted to lock him up for the next 6-7 years, but at first he only wanted 3-4 years. Seattle expressed their love of his work ethic, and tenacity to get the football evident of his 5 interceptions. The two most important things to Forbes was the roster around him, and to see the team be successful. The Hawks easily showed their recent resume: 4 straight playoff appearance & 2 Championships. They showed their roster, how it was a family of PAC-12 players, headed by Claybrooks. After multiple talks and discussions, Forbes agreed to a 7-year deal worth an insane $77M + $30M bonus cash.

J.T. Hutchinson was their young superstar free safety playing behind Eric Weddle. The team wasted no time and slapped Hutchinson with a franchise tag worth $5.31M, as they hoped to reach a long term deal as Weddle was on the last year of his contract.

Troy Polamalu was the next big name, as his contract was up. Schneider felt he was a leader in the locker room and on the defense. The two sides agreed to a 3-year deal worth $14M + $5.52M bonus.

They even had to re-sign their punter Chris Kluwe to a 7-year deal for $11.25M + $4.41M bonus. They knew punters were hard to come by and didn’t want to mess around.

Nate Tatum, their fourth wide receiver needed a new contract. He improved in his rookie year and the team wanted to see more out of him. They offered him a 3-year deal for $6.75M + $1.29M bonus to stay on the team. He accepted, which made things easy for a change.

While looking at Tatum’s contract they saw that Jake George was entering the final yet of his deal. They offered a 4-year extension for $17.6M + $4.76M bonus and he accepted. Claybrooks was happy to have his #1 guy for longer.

It wasn’t all roses however as the team had to let talented players walk to the open market of free agency. Joining Kendall Jenkins in the free agency water were tight end Alex Smith; tackle Kevin Brown who is a young stud; third string center James Carrier who hadn’t seen a snap all year; talented defensive tackle Biff Young; Keith Marshall who was behind both Rey Maualuga and young stud Randall Hayes at the linebacker spot; and finally Antoine Cason who had help anchor their secondary, but wanted too much money to stay with the team.

                FREE AGENCY ROUNDUP

Seattle could make any moves during the initial free agency period due to there excessive spending to keep key players. That didn’t stop the rest of the league however, as multiple teams loaded up for next year’s ‘war games’ called the National Football League.

The division rival Rams, signed former Hawk Kendall Jenkins in hopes to fix their quarterback issue they’ve had for the past couple seasons. The Rams also signed Pierre Garcon and Wes Welker because Jenkins needs targets after all. To keep Jenkins upright they signed Eric Winston at right tackle. To shut down opposing wide receivers; Leon Hall, Orlando Scandrick, Alan Ball, and Tyrell Johnson were signed as Seattle among many other teams boated a formidable air attack.

The Baltimore Ravens made giant splashes in free agency. They were embarrassed in the Super Bowl, giving up 42 points. They still believed in their offense, but the defense seemed like it was given an overhaul during free agency. They signed Mario Williams, who was part of the Panthers championship team last year. They also signed former Seahawk Biff Young to anchor their defensive line. Philip Wheeler was signed to chase down people on the weak side, while fearsome Jon Beason was too wrestled away from a Carolina to be the enforcer in the middle linebacker spot. Cornerback Derek Cox, was signed to be placed on an island with opponents best threat while Robbie Gould was signed to fix the kicking issues.

Re: Pete Carroll’s PAC-12 Pipeline (PS2 Madden Franchise)

                  DRAFT DAY!!!

Seattle had seven draft picks, the 27th pick in each round.

GM Schneider had gotten lucky, as there were only a few positions that needed to be addressed: running back, tight end, and middle linebacker.

“Each draft is different” he told reporters in the days leading up to the big day, “some guys fall, some guys you reach for because you hear chatter about another team is interested. It’s a game of chess with all of us owners and GM’s”

                  1. RG Ray Caldwell from Utah
                  2. WR Daryl Clay from UCLA
                  3. RB Calvin Wallace from Arizona St
                  4. MLB John Wade from Utah
                  5. ROLB Irv Sosa from Oregon
                  6. C Marty Hunt from UCLA
                  7. TE Willie Wolford from Utah

                  POST-DRAFT & FREE AGENCY

Mel Kiper once again gave the Seahawks a grade of “F” for their abysmal draft. He said the Seahawks reach round after round with their picks. Instead of taking another offensive lineman round 1, they should have drafted the defensive back sitting on the board that had a better overall game.

“I know that Carroll is in love with the PAC-12, but he cannot seem to get out of the 1st round. When do they abandon this idea and start to focus on the organization” — Todd McShay

Lucky for Seattle, no team in the NFC West got a solid draft grade as all 4 teams got “F” grades for “...not filling needed positions and the overall emphasis the teams in question put on aging or declining players.” — Mel Kiper

Seattle only saw only glaring hole, their tight end position. They got their rookies into training camp, and some shined while others struggled. Once such struggling players was rookie tight end Willie Wolford. He was having a hard time picking up blocks, he was constantly holding players and was struggling with picking up the playbook. They didn’t cut him, even if conventional wisdom said to. Instead, they worked the free agent pool of players. They found Garrett Fraser from Oregon. He was a better receiving tight end then blocking tight end, but the Hawks took what they could without costing too much money.

NEW SEASON BUT SAME GOAL: WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP!

Seattle started off the season with a decisive 40-3 dismantling of the Cincinnati Bengals. Benjamin Leon picked off Tim Tebow three times in the contest to help fuel their offensive showing, leading to points on all three turnovers.

Seattle got on the board early and often taking a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Gronkowski scored on a beautiful 29-yard score down the right hash with under 6 minutes to go. Glen Nichols added a field owl a few minutes later after Leon got his first interception of the evening.

Nichols and Bengals’ kicker Matt Prater exchanged field goals in the second quarter, to give the Seahawks a 13-3 lead at the half.

Seattle turned on the offense as Lynch got a 1-yard score after a 77-yard drive in 9 plays. Nichols added another field goal after Leon got his second interception on a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage.

In the fourth, Boyd got a 1-yard score with 7:51 left in the game. Rookie wideout Daryl Clay got his first catch and touchdown of his NFL career as he took the top off the coverage for the 48-yard score. Nichols added a final field goal at the 4:25 mark after Leon picked off Tebow for the third time of the game.

“I have NEVER played that in the zone before, and it was a great feeling. This game is a sign of things to come” Benjamin Leon told reports in the locker room.

DEFENSE SHUTS DOWN VIKNGS TO IMPROVE TO 2-0 AS LYNCH RUNS FOR 4 TOUCHDOWNS

Seattle’s defense was once again dominant in their victory. Seattle and Minnesota exchanged touchdown drives to open the first quarter. Marshawn Lynch bullied his way in from 1-yard at the 7:08 mark. Then Carson Palmer threw a strike to Darius Nash over the head of Marcus Trufant for the 37-yard score.

The second quarter was all Seattle as Marshawn Lynch got another 1-yard score. Then Gronkowski scored on a post route from 39-yards out from Claybrooks. Nichols added a field goal, then Lynch capped out the half with a 1-yard plunge to take a insurmountable 31-7 lead into the locker room.

Seattle added a field goal after Leon picked off Carson Palmer to open the third quarter. Seattle’s defense forced another pair of interceptions, but by Brice McClain in the final quarter as Nichols added a field goal before Lynch got another 2-yard plunge to make 4 rushing touchdowns on the evening.

Lynch’s final stat line was 25 rushes for 104 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also caught 2 balls for 15 yards.

SEATTLE SHUTS OUT RAVENS TO GO 3-0

Ray Claybrooks had a mediocre game, throwing for 312 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. His defense picked him up though, by stopping Baltimore on all of their drives. Settle drove the ball well, but Baltimore held their ground and forced Seattle into a trio of field goals in their first three drives of the game. It want until 5:29 of the second, when J.T. Hutchinson blitzed with Baltimore backed up towards the goal line. He reached the quarterback Lee Schroeder for the strip sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery for a touchdown hat trick. Seattle added another field goal before the half to go up 19-0.

The second half was all Seahawks defense as they forced nothing but punts, as Seattle added a touchdown via a Boyd 7-yard reception from Claybrooks. Seattle added a field goal in the fourth for a 29-0 final.

“Outstanding job by the defense, they bailed out my poor performance today” — Ray Claybrooks

CLAYBROOKS THROWS FOR HISTORIC 7 TOUCHDOWNS TO DEMOLISH STEELERS 69-10

Ray Claybrooks had a historic game of the ages, as he tossed 7 touchdowns and ran in another as the Seahawks improved to 4-0 on the season. His first came on a 13-yard pass to Lynch as he broke a tackle to find paydirt. His second came came in the second as he found Lynch again in the flat for a 5-yard score, but only after Claybrooks scored on a 2-yard plunge. Claybrooks’ third and fourth touchdowns went to Rob Gronkowski from 11-yards and 8-yards respectively to take a bonkers 35-0 lead into halftime.

The third quart saw no touchdown passes, only a field goal, followed up with a Steelers touchdown on the e suing kickoff. Boyd then ran it in from 2-yards before Nichols added another field goal.

The fourth quarter, Claybrooks tossed a 5-yard score to Garrett Fraser, and his final two touchdowns went to Rob Gronkowski from 13-yards and 17-yards.

Ray Claybrooks final stat line was 39/57 for 431 yards, 7 TD and 0 INT

Ray Claybrooks was speechless after the game, “I...uhh...wow”

“I wasn’t even keeping track myself” said Pete Carroll “I was just watching it like everyone else in awe”

SEATTLE STAYS UNDEFEATED AS NICHOLS KICKS 7 FIELD GOALS

Seattle’s kicker got a work out versus the Panthers on Sunday. The game was heralded as the ‘Game of the Week’ as many pundits thought this was a preview of the NFC Championship Game.

Nichols accounted for half the the teams 41 points they put up. Seattle offense was humming, but the Hawks just couldn’t punch it in otherwise the game would’ve been more lopsided.

One of the line bright spots was Daryl Clay torching his defender in the first for an easy 82-yard pitch and catch to go up 10-0 early in the game. One minute later cornerback Marcus Mitchell got his first of two interception off Vince Young and took it back 40 yards for the pick-6, increasing their lead to 17-0.

The second quarter saw Seattle kick three field goals versus the Panthers single field goal to take a 26-3 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter was a bright spot for the Panthers as Lee Evans beat Marcus Mitchell off the line and scored on a 64-yard bomb down the left sideline to make it a 26-10 game, but Seattle tacked on a pair of field goals to ouch the lead back to 32-10.

The fourth quarter the Seattle defense got lax, as they allowed backup quarterback Kris Navo score twice after Vince Young was forced out of the game with a shoulder injury. On the same drive that Seahawks star defensive end Vondrell McMillan was forced out with a knee injury.

Seattle gave up another big score to Lee Evans as he torched Marcus Trufant for an 80-yard score after Lynch plunged in from 1-yard on a fourth down call from Carroll. Adrian Peterson ran it in from 1-yard to make it a 38-24 game because Nichols missed the PAT after the Lynch run. Nichols added a field goal in the waning seconds to ensure there wouldn’t be a comeback bid by making it a 3 score game.

Tests would be done in the coming days on Vondrell and the Panthers’ Young to determine the extent of their injuries.

“McMillan will be hard to replace, but we are all professionals in the organization. We will get ready to travel to Detroit next week, and play football” — Pete Carroll

“Of course it sucks McMillan went down” said defensive captain Lamar Spark “hopefully it’s nothing serious and he’ll be out there next week”

                              MCMILLAN OUT 7-9 WEEKS

Star defensive end Vondrell McMillan would be sidelined for the next 7-9 weeks. The superstar went down with a knee injury in the third quarter versus the Carolina Panthers. Tests have revealed that he has torn cartilage in his knee and requires surgery to clean it up and get him back into playing shape.

Lawrence Jackson is still holding out for a new contract that suits his wants and needs.

For the interim, Seattle would sign Kyle Moore, a 6-year professional from USC. His deal is for 1-year, $1.25M + 200K bonus. His pervious team was back in 2011, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He would provide depth at the position, while Damon Abdullah would take over at the position during the Jackson holdout.

SEATTLE RUNS OVER LIONS TO STAY PERFECT

Seattle’s day started out bad as Claybrooks’ second pass attempt would be picked off by Charles Godfrey. The defense held them to a field goal, as that would be the only points scored by Detroit all day.

The Hawks second drive ended on a touchdown pass to Karney as he was left alone in the flat for an easy 9-yard score.

The second quarter saw Seattle score twice. The first on a Lynch 1-yard run; and the second as Karney caught his second touchdown pass from 3-yards as he bowled over a defender to get in.

The third quarter saw a pair of Nichols field goals from 44 & 21 yards. These were both set up off interceptions; one by Benjamin Leon and the other by Eric Weddle. Weddle would be taken to the locker room after the play with an arm injury after the play was over and not return to the game.

The fourth quarter saw Tyler Boyd rip off big runs to set up a Nichols 37-yard field goal. Th Hawks followed it up with a Lavelle Hawkins 7-yard touchdown score as he strafed the goal line. Then rookie running back Calvin Wallace got his first NFL touchdown on a 2-yard plunge to finish the game.

“It was one of my better games as a pro” said Tyler Boyd “I just want to keep improving in my overall game”
