CLOSE VICTORIES STILL COUNT AS NICHOLS HITS 4 FIELD GOALS IN 18-13 VICTORY OVER CHIEFS

The headline says it all...the offense could barely put the ball in the end zone the entire game. But as the saying goes, ‘there are 3 phases of football’ and Nichols showed why he was a Pro Bowl player last year.

Seattle took an early lead as Nichols knocked home field goals of 34-yards and 52-yards going into the second quarter.

Kansas City took the lead early in the second as Owen Daniels caught a ball from Matt Schaub for the 2-yard score to go up 7-6. Seattle responded as Lavelle Hawkins caught a 26-yard deep slant route to go up 12-7 after they couldn’t convert on a 2-pt attempt. Kansas City kicked a field goal as time ticked away towards the half to cut the lead to 12-10.

Seattle and Kansas City exchanged a pair of field goals in the third quarter. Nichols got his first, then Kansas City got theirs right before the fourth quarter.

Seattle didn’t move the ball well, but Nichols did get a 36-yard field goal to bend inside the left goal post towards the end of the fourth. The real stars were the Seattle defense as they shut out the Chiefs in the fourth, as Lawrence Jackson sacked Matt Schaub on their final drive to seal the game.

Carroll gave this week’s game ball to kicker Glen Nichols for being 90% of their offense this week.

SEATTLE DOMINATES IN 35-7 VICTORY OVER VIKINGS

Seattle broke out of their offensive slump by dropping 20 points in the first quarter!!! Glen Nichols kicked in a 41-yard field goal. Seattle’s Patrick Chung intercepted Carson Palmer and Claybrooks’ turned it into a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tatum. Seattle added another another field goal and then Lewis Moore caught a frozen rope pass from Claybrooks for the 21-yard score to make it 20-0.

Seattle’s offense went on cruise control and didn’t score until the end of the half on a Nichols 40-yard field goal.

Seattle could t get the shutout as he veteran Carson Palmer found Wilkerson for the 2-yard score with 7:43 to go in the game. That we only after Claybrooks found Tatum for his second of the contest on a 19-yard deep slant route.

Coach Carroll game the game ball this week to Jake George, for hauling in 7 balls, for 129 yards and setting up the touchdowns to Nate Tatum.

Next week the Hawks will travel to Philadelphia to face the defending Super Bowl Champions and the team that knocked them out last year in the Divisional Round of the playoff.

EAGLES SOAR JUST OUT OF REACH OF SEAHAWK COMEBACK DESPITE NO MCCOY OR FLACCO

The night was a rough one for both offenses; as both defenses were ready and willing to force their will upon their opponent. The teams combined for staggering 14 sacks, 7 a side during the game. LeSean McCoy broke his hand weeks earlier and was ruled out for the season, while Joe Flacco went down early on a Lawrence Jackson strip-sack with a elbow injury.

Seattle and Philadelphia exchanged field goals the first quarter. Nichols hit from 53-yards, but Philadelphia nailed a 47-yard and 49-yard of their own to take a slim 6-3 into the second quarter.

Seattle’s offense got going as Claybrooks found Jake George from 10-yards to take a 10-6 lead. After a exchange of punts, the Eagles were backed up on their 2 yard line when Hayes sacked Sam Knight in the end zone for a safety to go up 12-6.

Philadelphia would refuse to accept the score as DeSean Jackson caught a 22-yard strike from Knight and tacked on a field goal before the half to take a 16-12 lead.

The third quart, the Hawks defense gave up a lone field goal to make it a 19-12 game. Unfortunately for the Hawks their offensive line forgot how to play football and gave up 4 sacks in the final quarter as their offense could only manage a 32-yard Nichols field goal. The night ended as Claybrooks threw his only interception of the game in his second to last drive as he was pressured by Kamerion Wimbley.

Despite the tough loss, Seattle remained 5-1 on the year, in 4th place in the NFC standings and in first place by 1 game over the Rams whom they beat a few weeks prior so they own the tiebreaker right now.

Coach Carroll stated “We will learn from this loss, and play better next week at home versus the Falcons”

        —————

Tests the following day showed no broken bones on Flacco’s throwing arm, it was just a bone bruise. He would be listed as day-to-day.

SEAHAWKS SUFFER FIRST HOME LOSS OF SEASON TO FALCONS

The Seattle Seahawks went into the game averaging a shade over 22 points a game, and they had their rowdy crowd behind them. The defense gave up a field goal in the first half, but their offense scored half way through the second as Claybrooks found his safety net Gronkowski for a 6-yard score. The defense couldn’t hold the Falcons off the board though, as backup Clyde Means threw a perfectly placed ball over the left shoulder of Brandon Marshall for the 38-yard score to lead at halftime 10-7.

Seattle gave up nothing in the third quart as Nichols knocked in a 46-yard field goal that barely snuck over the crossbar to tie it up at 10. The fourth quarter was when things unraveled for Seattle. They gave up a quick score Roddy White, but managed only a field goal in response to make it a 17-13 game. Atlanta added a field goal with under 2-minutes to go in the game making it 20-13. Seattle’s 2-minute drill was snuffed out on a Jacob Ford sack as the Hawks fell 20-13.

Next up for the Seahawks were their AFC rival Raiders who boast the same 5-2 record on the year, who also just beat the Rams 37-20 in the prior week. This game would hopefully be a ‘get right’ game for Seattle as Oakland was ranked 24th for total defense in the league.

SEAHAWKS LOSE 3-STRAIGHT AS OAKLAND FORCES 4 INTERCEPTIONS IN VICTORY

Oakland’s offense wasn’t overpowering by any means, but they got the just done. Their defense played out of their mind however because they forced 5 turnover total on the night.

Seattle managed a measly 3 points through 3 quarters as Nichols got a field goal in the first. Oakland and Shaun Suisham got 3 field goals of their own in the second quarter, before Tarvaris Jackson escaped the pocket and ran down the sideline for a magical 73-yard score to go up 15-3 after a failed 2-pt attempt. They added a pair field goals to go up 21-3 going into the final quarter after their defense picked off Claybrooks twice.

Just when the Hawks got something going, a turnover would derail them. Seattle got a touchdown finally when Claybrooks found Alex Smith on a deep post route for the 32-yard score. They failed to convert the 2-pt attempt though. They added a pair of field goals, the final one with under :60 to go. It was peculiar why Carroll didn’t go for the end zone, but it was a 4th and long. The Hawks failed to recover the onside kick at the end of the game to lose by a final of 15-21.

Seattle would face the lowly Chargers the next week at Qwest Field who sport a 1-7 record. The only team worse off are the Buccaneers & Browns who are both 0-8.

            —————

The biggest blow was losing center Max Unger for the game, halfway through the second quarter. Tests will be done on Monday to assess the injury.

MAX UNGER OUT AS HE SUFFERS DISLOCATED ELBOW IN LOSS TO FALCONS

Tests were conducted, and revealed that Max Unger has a dislocated elbow. It will take 6-8 weeks to fully heal, and in the meantime Eric Heitmann will replace him in the lineup while rookie James Carrier will be the man to back up Heitmann.

SEAHAWKS BACK TO WINNING AFTER CONVINCING 30-12 VICTORY IN SAN FRANCISCO

Seattle got back to strong winning football Sunday versus the San Francisco 49ers. Seattle put 17 points on the board in the first quarter as Gronkowski caught a 2-yard pass from Claybrooks. Nichols added a field goal of 34-yards on their next possession after Benjamin Leon picked off Curtis Alford. The bad news was Claybrooks left the game on that drive after his hand hit a helmet. Kendall Jenkins came in and tossed a touchdown to Jake George from 16-yards to go up 17-0 after the first quarter.

Neither team did much offensively during the second or third quarters. San Francisco got a field goal in each quarter, as Seattle got a lone touchdown plunge from Lynch. Nichols missed the PAT attempt to keep it a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter at 23-6.

In the final quarter, Seattle added another touchdown as Jake George caught a 15-yard score from Claybrooks as San Francisco got a morale victory. they added a field goal at the beginning of the quarter and a field goal late in the game to only lose 30-12 rather than 30-9.

Coach Carroll game the game ball to Kris Jenkins for keeping the team going strong while Claybrooks was being checked out on the sideline. He went 6 of 11 for 51yards and 1 touchdown.

Next week Seattle will go to visit the Rams in St. Louis. Seattle holds a 2-game lead and the tiebreaker over them. They defeated the Rams in Seattle week 2, by a score of 34-15.

SEAHAWKS SWEEP SEASON SERIES WITH 31-7 BLOWOUT OF RAMS

Seattle had turnover trouble as Marshawn Lynch fumbled his first carry of the game. Sam Bradford found Percy Harvin for the 20-yard score. Seattle was held scoreless in the first half thanks to a pair of interceptions thrown by a Claybrooks. The game looked like it might be a rough one, but Claybrooks shrugged it off once he got the ball in the second quarter.

Marshawn Lynch ran it in from 1-yard at the beginning of the quarter and George added a 4-yard touchdown reception at the 7:26 mark to go up 14-7. Seattle’s defense stepped up after the initial touchdown in the first to keep the Rams off the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter en route to a perfect second half.

Seattle added points in bunches over the last two quarters. Nichols kicked a field goal in the third, while Lynch overpowered his way to an 11-yard running score and the night was capped by George again for the 13-yard score.

Jake George had another great night, hauling in 9 of his 13 targets for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the season he has 63 receptions for 805 yards and 10 touchdowns. He got the game ball, once again.

Next week, Seattle play host to the visiting New York Giants. The Giants will be without speedy rookie receiver Lemarcus Jordan or veteran linebacker Thomas Davis due to injuries. Seattle will look to capitalize on the middle of the field with Gronkowski and Smith.

SEAHAWKS WIN 4TH IN A ROW AFTER STRONG 20-3 VICTORY OVER GIANTS

Seattle and New York both struggled offensively in the first quarter. Aaron Ross picked off Claybrooks on his first drive, while both team exchanged punts. Towards the end of the first quarter, Jason Campbell threw his first of three interception on the night. Eric Weddle watched Campbell’s eyes and jumped the route.

Seattle finally got on the board early in the second quarter as Nichols got a 46-yarder to hit the net dead center. Joseph Addai wouldn’t be denied as he barely got over the goal line for the 1-yard plunge. With under 5:00 in the half, Seattle’s George took a deep slant 35-yards after making the safety miss. Seattle led 10-7 at half.

Seattle added another 10 points in the final half; a Lynch 1-yard run in the third followed up with a 26-yarder by Nichols. The Seattle defense was on point as Leon and Cason picked off Campbell in the second half as well as recording a sack on the evening.

Seattle improved to 9-3 on the year. They were more or less solidified into the 4th seed in the NFC as the Eagles above them held tiebreaker. They were 3 games up on the Packers, Falcons, Redskins, Giants, and Rams who are all 6-6 and jockeying for the last playoff spots.

Seattle would face the Redskins in week 14, and the Redskins knew it was a ‘must win game’ at home in the nations capital.

RAY CLAYBROOKS LEADS COMEBACK OVER REDSKINS 24-20

Seattle’s defense looked like it was playing down to their competition. The gave up 10 points in the first quarter. A field goal early on, and then a 5-yard pass to Wes Welker.

Seattle got on the board early with a 39-yard field goal by Nichols, but Seattle turned around at let Washington score before the half on a Chris Cooley 2-yard catch to take a commanding lead of 17-3 over Seattle.

It’s unknown how much yelling was done or what was said...but whatever it was worked. They forced Washington into a 3-and-out and went 7 plays in 4-minutes to make it a 17-10 game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Washington got a field goal to make it a 20-10 game. Seattle roared back as Claybrooks tossed a ball to Jake George who made a defender miss and take it 24-yards for the score; 17-20 was the deficit. Seattle forced a bad throw by Washington quarterback Frank Holmberg which Randall Hayes snatched out of the air. Seattle led by Claybrooks went 60-yards, leaving just 2:10 left in the game as Gronkowski scored in traffic for the 7-yard score and customary GronkSpike of the ball. Seattle’s defense stood tall and Hayes get his second sack of the night to seal the comeback victory.

Coach Carroll was gushing about his guys after the game, “The kept fighting, clawing and scratching all game long. Their determination fueled their desire to win and Randall Hayes deserved the game ball for his 9 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 forced fumble”

Next week, Arizona will host Seattle in hopes to just ‘save face’ for the season as they have been virtually eliminated from playoff contention with a 5-8 record.

CLAYBROOKS SUFFERS ANKLE/LEG INJURY AS JENKINS RALLIES TEAM TO VICTORY

Everything was going well for the Seahawks. Mike Karney got his first touchdown of the year on a 1-yard plunge. Arizona tied it up 4-minutes late as Eli Manning found the speedy Sylvester for a 23-yard score. Lewis Moore caught a contested 32-yard catch in the end zone from Claybrooks, which after review Moore got both feet down in play to take a 14-7 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Claybrooks was sacked by Calvin Pace on the only sack given up in the game. Claybrooks clutched his ankle, and had to be helped off the field. He never returned to the game, as tests would be run over the next day or two.

Seattle backup Kendall Jenkins was ready for this moment and the defense rallied as well. They forced Arizona into multiple 3-and-outs. Nichols kicked a 48-yard field goal as Jenkins found Brandon Gibson for his first score of the year on a 3-yard fade route. Settle took a 24-7 lead into the locker room.

Claybrooks was seen on the sideline after the galf, ankle heavily taped and on crouches. The Seattle defense gave up 13 points in the third to make it a slim 24-20 lead. Arizona scored on a pair of Dre Martin runs from from 1-yard and 3-yards.

Seattle made sure to put the game to rest during the final quarter. Mike Karney got his second touchdown on a 1-yard flip pass from Jenkins while Nichols added an a pair of field goals from 32-yards and 53-yards to stall out any thought of a comeback. Seattle’s defense held Arizona scoreless the final frame, and could go into next week worried about their star quarterback and not the standings.

Coach Carroll gave the game ball to Jenkins who went 14 of 21 for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns.

CLAYBROOKS SUFFERS HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN, SIDELINED 2-3 WEEKS

Ray Claybrooks was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain Monday according to team doctors. He would miss the last two games of the regular season hosting Denver and Arizona respectively.

Kendall Jenkins had the ‘keys to the offense’ and in a corresponding move the Hawks went out and signed a free agent quarterback to back up Jenkins.

Chad Richards, former USC Trojan and former Indianapolis Colt was signed by Seattle on Tuesday. The deal is for 1-year, $1M + $200K bonus.

KENDALL JENKINS BREAKS DOWN DEFENSES IN ROUTE TO FIRST VICTORY AS A STARTER

Seattle looked just as dominant with Kendall Jenkins at the helm. He tossed his first score of the game to Gronkowski a 9-yard score.

The second quarter was much the same. Kendall Jenkins threw touchdown passes of 3-yards and 16-yards to George and Tatum. Denver’s Knowshon Moreno finally got Denver on the board with a 2-yard run.

The Seattle Seahawks were shut out in the third quarter while giving up a field goal to make it a 21-10 lead. Too bad for Denver, Seattle seems to be a fourth quarter team this year. Seattle added on 17 more points to blow the Broncos out of the stadium.

Gronkowski caught his second of the game from 9-yard out again, while George caught a beautiful spiral from 22-yards. Nichols added a field goal sandwiched in between the touchdowns to make the final score 38-10.

Coach Carrol lauded Jenkins’ preparedness and being a student of the game. He had a perfect night going 24 of 35 for 275 yards and tossing 5 touchdowns.

The final game would be in Arizona, where a victory and a few loses would give them the 2nd seed in the NFC playoff bracket.

SEATTLE GOES INTO PLAYOFF RIDING 8 GAME WIN STREAK

Seattle’s Lynch ran it in from 1-yard to give them an early 7-0 lead. Eli Manning found John Watson in the corner of the end zone for a nice one-handed 20-yard score. That was all the points Arizona would get on the night though. As Seattle offense was humming to a tune of 37 unanswered points.

Glen Nichols got a second quart field goal, a minute before Hayes picked off Eli Manning and ran it back for the 56-yard pick-6.

Jenkins was shook up on the first play of the second half, when he was sacked. He got up hobbling, and was immediately removed as backup Chad Richards was put in. Richards’ first throw was intercepted, Seattle picked off Eli Manning’s next pass. It was long enough to get Jenkins check out and cleared to return.

Jenkins threw a 7-yard score to George, then a 1-yard score to Gronkowski before Nichols closed out the third quarter with a field goal.

The final quarter was much the same; George caught a 8-yard score before Nichols added another field goal to complete the stomping of the Cardinals; 44-7.

Seattle will look to prepare for the New York Giants in the wild card matchup. The *hopeful* good news, Claybrooks will be back under center of Max Unger as they are Questionable and Probable.

SEAHAWKS BLOW OUT GIANTS EN ROUTE TO CONFERENCE GAME 59-10!

Seattle was not playing any games with the Giants. Before the a giants could blink they were down 17-0 at the end of the first. Jenkins found Moore from 7-yards, followed by a Nichols field goal then Jenkins handed it off and watched Lynch run it in from 2-yards.

The second quart saw Jenkins throw a pair of touchdowns to George from 36-yards and 55-yards to take a dominating half time led of 31-0.

The third quarter was a exchanging of touchdowns. First was Gronkowski from 13-yards, followed up as Aaron Ross taking the ensuing kickoff 99-yards for the kickoff touchdown to make it a 38-7 game.

The Giants’ misery was over, mercifully so as they had given up even trying by the time the fourth quart rolled around as evident of a trio of tic downs by Jenkins. His first to Moore from 29-yards, then to George again from 60-yards then finally Moore again from 37-yards. The Giants got a lone field goal but there was no point, not even to save face.

Kendall Jenkins’ Hall of Fame type game was nothing short of magical. He went 34 of 50 for 497 yards and 7 touchdowns with 0 interceptions.

After the stat line was shown, a few former Hall of Famers tweeted him:

“I never had a single game like that, gratz!” Brett Favre

“You made my arm sore watching you” Dan Marino

Next up are the offensive juggernaut Panthers who boast the best scoring offense in the league at 34.8 points a game. But the Hawks boast the 2nd best defense in the league.
