SEAHAWKS DEFENSE GROUNDS JETS TO CLAIM 2ND LOMBARDI TROPHY ON ARM OF RAY CLAYBROOKS

Seattle rookie signal caller was compared to the veteran arm of Sanchez. The rookie played like the vet, while Sanchez looked to be ‘too small for the moment’ according to the play-by-play analysts.

The game started out horrible for Sanchez, as his first pass was intercepted and ran back by Marcus Trufant for the defensive score. Then, after the Seattle defense forced a punt, the Jets defense committed pass interference in the end zone. Two plays later, Ray called his own number, and ran a QB sneak to go up 14-0 early.

The second quarter was all Seahawks as after the Jets got a field goal off a Claybrooks interception throw, the Seattle offense put up back-to-back touchdown drives. Claybrooks found McDonald for the 40 yard score followed up as Turner got the step on his man for a 37 yard score. New York took their following drive to find Santonio Holmes, from 52 yards, for his first of four touchdown catches of the contest. Seattle ended the first half as Gronkowski scored on a 1 yard plunge.

After the Seattle defense gave up a humiliating touchdown scramble to Mark Sanchez of 40 yards to start the third quarter; they buckled down and remained stalwart until the 4th quarter.

Seattle’s defense created 3 interceptions. Two were drive killers; one on a tipped pass by Trufant which Thurmond nabbed; the other by Cason in the red zone. Settle turned all three takeaways into touchdowns, as Claybrooks used pinpoint passing to pick apart the Jets defense. Claybrooks found McCoy for a 23 yarder, Gronk for a short 7 yarder then lastly McDonald’s second of the night from 49 on blown coverage.

The fourth quarter the Jets offense came alive, but the Seattle offense could not be stopped. Santonio Holmes was a one man show as he continuously burned Seattle defenders for impressive scores of 75, 74, and 91. He was all the points the Jets. Sandwiched between all of the long bombs, Ray Claybrooks showed off his own arm talents by finding George from 39 and 42 yards.

Nick Reed helped the cause by strip-sacking Sanchez which Banta-Cain scooped up and ran back for a 39 yards score.

The final score was Seahawks 84, Jets 38.

Ray Claybrooks was named MVP of the Super Bowl by going 29/47, for 566 yards, 7 TD/ 2 INT, and 2 Rushing TD

2011 EXPENSE REPORT, STADIUM UPGRADES AND COACHING CAROUSEL

John Schneider was given the total expense report for the previous year. He was shocked as he had actually LOST money this past year. It was mind-boggling how he made money the first year as he had cut so many on the roster to meet Pete Carroll’s lofty, crazy ideas and demands.

The Seahawks organization has spent $254 Million total, $225 Million in player salaries. The organization only took in $225 Million with $142 Million via the ‘NFL Shared Revenue’ act. They lost a total of $28.7 Million dollars After all the finances were in order, Seattle had a total of $50 Million to spend towards stadium upgrades, retaining coaches, and other team needs.

      ————

It was no surprise that the Coordinators for the Seahawks would be prime targets for potential head coaching vacancies around the NFL. The Oakland Raiders extended an offer to the Defense Coordinator, Sanders tp become their next head coach. Seattle wasn’t about to let that happen and offered him a 3-year extension worth $3.98M per year. He accepted the offer, as he knew the talent he had in Seattle.

Oakland then tried to pilfer the offensive coordinator away from the 2-time Champions. They offered their offensive brain trust $4.1 Million per year for 3 years, to stay for the remainder of Coach Carroll’s current contract. Hohn Schneider wasn’t a fool to let either of them go.

It was reported that Seattle would not be extended dong the contract of their Special Teams coach. The Hawks would then turn their eyes towards Special Teams brain, Mr. Marciano. They offered him a 2 year contract for $250K, but he rejected it. Seattle then came back with a 3 year contract for $310K per year, which Mr. Marciano happily accepted in hopes to be part of a 3-peat championship team and culture.

As an appreciation for the fans continued support, and selling out multiple games the Hawks organization are upgrading the stadium. They have decided to give each individual seat its own cup holders. As well as a gourmet coffee shop, to supply their rabid fans with local and specialty blends. The cost per ear for these upgrades is a meager $550K per year, but John said “The fans deserve it, and they helped us claim 2 Lombardi trophies!”

Perennial Pro Bowler Rey Lewis announces today that he took his “Last Ride” with his band of brothers on the Baltimore Ravens. Not a single fan, player, nor coach can deny that Rey Lewis is a first ballot and unanimous Half of Fame inductee.

Ray Lewis finished his 16 year career, all with the Baltimore Ravens for one of the scariest and formidable defenses in the league. His career highlights are plenty; including:

          11x Pro Bowler
          7x AP first team All-Pro
          3x AP second team All-Pro
2x AP Defensive Player of the Year (2000 and 2003)
          2x AFC Champion (2000 and 2010)

He finished his ‘iron man’ career with over 2000 total tackles, 20 forced fumbles, 30 interceptions and 40 sacks.

Re: Pete Carroll’s PAC-12 Pipeline (PS2 Madden Franchise)

The Seahawks were faced with a few a few decisions before entering the bulk of free agency. They had a trio of players becoming restricted free agents. After much thought, they offered a 1 year tender to Nick Reed for a simple $1M I’m pay. He accepted the offer, as Seattle chose to release Fenuki Tupou and Kevin Ellison to the open market.

After dealing with RFA, the reigning champions had decisions to make. Players contracts were up, and renegotiations were taking place. After looking at their current roster, and looking at surveying what players would be available in the upcoming free agency period; the Seahawks extended offers to players whom they wished to keep. Alex Smith, the sure handed tight end was offered a 3 year contract for $9M, to make sure that Ray Claybrooks had a well versed security blanket to throw to. Along with Smith, Mike Pollak was signed to ensure the quarterback had ample time to toss the ball around the field.

In order to rush the opposing quarterback, Lawrence Jackson and Rey Maualuga were signed/re-signed to multiple year contracts. After all was said and done, and all the ink dried, the Seahawks had roughly $60M to spend towards free agents i the next few weeks leading up to the draft.

The first man signed during this period was Pro Bowl talent wide receiver with amazing hands, Chad Ochocinco. He was older, and technically on the decline, but Pete stressed how important it was to have a vet on the team to help lead the young wide receiving crew on their team. After signing Chad, the team targeted and signed Pro Bowl talent from USC, Troy Polumalu. He would immediately provide depth and fear of going over the middle. Coach Carroll said that “Troy reminded him of a modern Ronnie Lott”.

The final big name signed was fullback Mike Karney. He was older, but by signing the veteran back, it allowed Rob Gronkowski to go back to his more natural position of tight end. Even though Alex Smith was re-signed, having weapons was never a bad thing. Besides, the Hawks are known for using two tight end sets often so having two skilled tight ends is not a drawback. Plus Gronkowski has a small history of injuries, despite no serious ones, so Alex as a strong backup wasn’t terrible.

Next on the Seahawks agenda was preparing for the incoming draft class. The days were long, and the hours of tape viewed was countless. When the draft came, there is no way John Schneider and company were not going to be prepared for the day.

Seattle was not the only team to make a splash in the pre-draft free agency period. Some teams made big moves like the Eagles signing Aaron Rodgers to spearhead their passing attack. To the Ravens signing a pair of pass rushers in Darnell Docket and Daryl Smith to rush opposing quarterbacks. Most teams had some sort of activity take place, some more notable then others.

New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees and Jeff Saturday

                Dallas Cowboys: Frank Gore

                San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Jacobs

Re: Pete Carroll’s PAC-12 Pipeline (PS2 Madden Franchise)

Seattle coach Pete Carroll and GM braintrust John Schneider met the two weeks prior to the NFL draft for countless hours. The pair scoured and poured over what seemed as countless hours of tape in hopes to identify the players to help bring their team continued success in the following year.

They saw a young man, with fantastic hands for a wide receiver. His name is Eugene Alvarado, from the PAC-12 Stanford. While the Seahawks were unable to put enough into a deal to move that far up in the draft, they could tell that whichever team took him was getting a special player.

The draft came and went, teams moved up, moved back, and played the NFL “lottery” in hopes to find the next once-in-a-lifetime player that would transform their organization out of obscurity or a player to put them over the top.

When Seattle was on the clock, they identified players that could step in right away to be serviceable back-ups and had the potential to be at at reed when some older teammates moved on.

                    FAN AND SCOUT REACTION

Seattle’s first round pick was not a fan favorite. They felt it could have been better used on an offensive playmaker rather than another offensive lineman. The television media felt the same,

“While there were certainly better players on the board, at more skilled positions, this pick isn’t the worst. Forbes is a big man, at 6’6” weighing over 330 pounds. He has the raw strength to protect the quarterback and has very good vision to pick up blitzes and stay in the proper position. He may be the backup to start, but should grow into a starter given enough playing time.”

                    Grade: C-

Their second round pick, Eugene Bronson was well received by the fan base and media as well.

“Eugene is a talented linebacker for the University of Washington. He bulked up his freshmen year and became a starter his sophomore year and started all but 3 games for the Huskies. He has the talent and technique to bring down whoever has the ball. He has good speed and accelerators well from a dead stop. Will be a good understudy to Antonio Pierce, and will be a good starter when given the opportunity.”

                    Grade: A

Their third pick was well received by both fans and scouts,

“With the third round pick, they chose another left tackle in Deunta Stevens out of California. He is slightly bigger and stronger than their first round pick, but lacks the vision of his contemporary. He played along the entire line, but felt most comfortable at the tackle position. He committed a lot of penalties while he started his final year. He will be a backup after joining the pro level, but a solid pick overall”

                    Grade: A

The Seahawks with their fourth round selection went defense again with Benjamin Leon a cornerback.

“Ben, was a two year starter with UCLA. He is a prototypical corner at 6’1”, and has good speed. He has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, but got burned by receivers on a double move. Solid pick, but nothing game-changing”

                    Grade: B

Their 5th round pick was a solid one as fans loved it and so did the television analysts.

“Vondrell McMillan has loads of talent. He has all the physical skills you look for in a pass rushing left end; accelerating to the ball, tackling technique, and good agility. The only two things that kept him from ascending teams draft boards are his vision and his durability. He failed to see open lanes to get to the ball, and he was constantly injured. Even though he played through most of them, they are still concerning”

                    Grade: B

Their 6th round pick was another solid pick.

“Andrew Buckley is a standard strong safety. He played both safely spots at Oregon State, and started the last 5 games due to the starter getting injured. He played well, tackles well on tape and showed good sideline to sideline speed to reach all corners of the infield. He will be learning from Troy Polumalu and Patrick Chung which will be invaluable in his development. Overall, a solid pick at TG is stage of the draft”

                    Grade: A

Their final pick was a complete bust, but it was the only option presented to Pete Carroll.

“Kelvin Adams wasn’t on any draft boards for a reason, as he is a practice squad at best. He was horrible at creating lanes for his running backs at the University of Washington, and was only above average at pass block technique. He committed the most penalties out of all offensive lineman, and god banged up a lot. A failure to recognize this on Pete’s part is rare.”

                    Grade: F

Re: Pete Carroll’s PAC-12 Pipeline (PS2 Madden Franchise)

The Seahawks signed their draft picks to basic rookie contracts, hoping they will develop into bonafide starters. Some had an easier path, as their starters were aging, while some were shuffled across the offensive line to provide needed depth.

The Seahawks then looked at their current roster and looked at whom was available in the free agent pool of players to bolster their roster even more. They were the x2 defending Super Bowl champions and OT was a given fact they would have targets on the backs by each and every opponent.

The found Sione Pouha, defensive tackle who they signed for $1M/1year. This move added depth to their shallowest position.

Their roster was now maxed out, but they had contingency plans in case their were injuries, and it was Kelvin Adams whom they just drafted.

(Adjusting difficulty from All-Pro to All-MADDEN to represent the ‘target on their back’ mentality. Plus if I have won 2 Super Bowls I should be more challenging right?)

                        PRESEASON RESULTS

The Seahawks went 3-1 in the preseason. They lost their first game in Carolina, but then rebounded by defeating the Jaguars and Bears in Seattle and finished with a quality win in Washington versus the Redskins.

The Seahawks did suffer a pair of injuries. Rookie cornerback Benjamin Leon has an abdominal tear while second year receiver Jake George was dealing with a foot stress fracture. Both would miss a few games, but Seattle had enough depth to weather this storm.

Sam Bradford picked apart the Seahawks secondary with pinpoint accuracy. Rookie Casper Warren torched the likes of Cason and Trufant for a tune of over 200 yards and 3 touchdown scores.

Despite going into halftime with a 3 point lead, Seattle was forced to look at back-up Alex Smith to lead them after Ray Claybrooks was knocked out of the game towards the end of the third quarter with a strained elbow.

Smith’s accuracy was awful as he threw two interception, both to Kerry Rhodes which sealed whatever comeback hopes they had.

“Ray seems fine, just held him out for precautions. We will evaluate him during the week in preparation for next weeks game at home versus the Detroit Lions” — Coach Carroll

“I wasn’t ready, and it showed. Today’s loss is all on me” — Alex Smith
