GAME RECAP

The Buffalo Bull's Defense showed up today for their rematch with the Panthers, but FIU flips the script as FR QB Derek Hawkins manages to throw 4 TD's to lead the Panthers to the victory as FIU heads back to the National Championship for a 2nd year in a row. and their 3rd in 4 seasons.

*Forgot to write down the scoring summary before advancing back to the Hub, so here is a brief recap.

Buffalo opened up with the ball and scored on the opening drive as JR RB Earl Sheuerman (81) caps a long drive with a 4 yd TD run (7-0). FIU ties the game as Tavon Logan scores his 100th TD of his career with a 39 yd TD run to make it (7-7).

Buffalo QB JR Noa Gibbs (78) throws a INT to open up the 2nd Quarter and Hawkins responds with the first of his 4 TD's on the day hitting FR WR Steve Trapasso on a 26 yd score to give FIU the (14-7) lead.

Logan would extend the led to (21-7) just before the half with his 2nd TD (#101) ..

FIU opened up the 2nd half with the ball and Hawkins delivers TD #2 as he finds SR WR Tyler Cisco on a 17 yd strike to make it (28-7).

Gibbs would throw his 2nd INT of the day but Hawkins gives it right back with his 1st as we go into the 4th still with the lead (28-7).

The Panthers extend the lead to (35-7) as Hawkins hits TE Earl Godwin on a 11 yd score but the Bulls respond back with Gibbs connecting on a 56 yd TD pass to SR WR T. Garnes (84) to make it (35-14). Hawkins would then throw his 2nd INT of the game setting up another Scheuerman short TD run to make it (35-21). Despite his 2 INT on the day Hawkins was still firing in the late in the 4th as he finds RS SO Kris Newkirk on a 9 yd strike to close out the game and give FIU the 3 score lead.

Gibbs finished the day 16/22 (72%) for 237 yds with 1 TD and 2 INT.

TIDE SPOIL PANTHER/IRISH REMATCH

#2 Alabama will play for it's 19th National Championship next week against the FIU Panthers who will be looking at #3 in the past 4 seasons.

Many fan's were hoping to see a FIU vs Notre Dame rematch of the 2029 National Championship, but the Tide use score twice in the 4th Quarter after trailing (20-17) at the half and (27-17) at the end of the 3rd Quarter to win the game (32-27).

JR QB Evan Shead was 31/49 (63%) for 465 yds with 4 TD and 1 INT in the win...

JR WR Alex Sawyer led the Tide with 8 rec for 175 yds and caught all 4 TD's, well well fellow JR WR Tyler Tauscher finished with 7 rec for 113 yds and SR TE Chance Day caught 9 rec for 102 yds

SR QB Daniel Linnenkohl finished 20/25 (80%) for 312 yds with 4 TD in the loss.

GAME RECAP

Heartbreak in Tampa.. Florida International was just 55 seconds away from being crowned back to back National Champs but the Alabama Tide said no way not with #19 so close, as HC Adrian Brooks makes the biggest call in Natty history going for the 2pt play to win the game with 13 seconds instead of kicking the PAT and forcing Overtime.

Big plays were the name of the game for the Tide today as they scored 4 times with play's over 50+ yards.

JR QB Evan Shead (90 Ovr) got things going early with a 58 yd TD pass to JR WR Alex Sawyer (86 Ovr) to take the lead (7-0).

FIU would tie the game (7-7) as FR QB Derek Hawkins finds SR WR Tyler Cisco for a 15 yd strike midway through the 1st. Alabama responded as Shead leads a 9 play drive ending with a 17 yd TD pass to SO WR Doug Rugamba (88 Ovr) to give Alabama the (14-7) lead.

FIU facing a huge 3rd and 8, was forced to pass, and Hawkins found Carlos Babet wide open over the middle but the FR WR dropped the pass forcing a punt. Alabama took advantage and would drive 11 plays ending with a 4 yd QB keeper as Shead extends the lead to (21-7) at the half.

Shead would finish the 1st half 14/15 for 195 yds with the 2 TD passing and add 34 yds on 6 carries and the TD on the ground, as he sets the foundation for the MVP of the game.

Alabama kept Tavon Logan in check in the 1st half as the "Wolverine" was held to just 38 yds on 6 carries but with FIU receiving the ball to open up the 2nd half, Logan was ready to make a big play. Logan took the 1st snap of the 2nd half 9 yds to to the right setting up a 2nd and 1. Logan took snap #2 69 yds to the house for his first TD of the game cutting the lead to (21-14).

FIU had a chance to tie the game but Derek Hawkins would throw the first of 2 INT's in a matter of a minute in the endzone tying to hit Tyler Cisco on a slant.

The Tide would take over on the 20 but Sneads first pass is picked off by SR CB Joey Cordero who takes the ball down to the 6 yd line before being pushed out of bounds.

Given a fresh chance to tie the game, Coach Miller would run Tavon Logan up the middle for a short 2 yd gain. Then on 2nd and goal, Logan would try and cut the run to the outside but would lose 2 yds bring it back to 3rd and goal from the 6. Hawkins takes the snap and again looks for Cisco over the middle and for a 2nd time, the ball is picked off as SO CB Jamie Mazza (80) sees a wide open field ahead taking it 100 yds for the "Pick 6" touchdown extending the Tide's lead to (28-14) like a flip of a light switch.

With back to back INT's Coach Miller would turn to Logan and Tompkins to try and get his team back into the game and the duo responded with a 9 play drive ending with Logan's 2nd TD of the day as he punches it in from 7 yds out to make it (28-21) as the 3rd Quarter comes to a close.

Alabama wasted little time though as Shead needs just 3 plays to get the Tide back in the endzone as he hits JR WR Tyler Tauscher (87 Ovr) on a 62 yd bomb to extend the lead back to 2 scores (35-21).

Coach Miller knew he need to install some confidence into his young QB and he did it in a big way opening the series with a 5 WR set, and Hawkins delivers as Cisco beats his guy 1 on 1 on the outside to take it 80 yds for the score (35-28) with 6 minutes to play in the game.

The Panther D then finally comes up with a big stop holding the Tide on 3rd and 4 forcing a punt..

Again FIU turns to their 2X National POY and Heisman winner, and again Logan delivers breaking a big 40 yd gain before going out of bounds. After a Titus Tompkins 19 yd gain, the ball goes back to Logan who takes it 17 yds for his 3rd TD of the game as FIU ties the game (35-35) with 4:08 to play.

Coach Miller could feel it in his bones. He knew this game was going to come down to who had the ball last and he wasn't wrong. The Panther D had struggled most of the day against the talented Tide WR core and the Alabama O line had been doing an amazing job of keeping the Panther pass rush at bay, but Cortez Darby wasn't the National Defense player for nothing as Darby comes up with a huge sack on 3rd and 8 forcing back to back punts by the Tide, as FIU takes over with 3 minutes to play.

Trailing by 2 scores almost the entire game, FIU now had a chance to take the lead for the 1st time and Tavon Logan delivered.. But the problem was they did it to quickly as Logan dives in for his 4th TD of the day with 55 seconds to play (42-35).

Alabama didn't need 55 seconds though because after the touchback, Shead hits Sawyer with a 80 yd bomb to make it (42-41) and that's when Brooks makes the biggest call of the game leaving his offense on the field. The FIU sideline is stunned. Coach Miller calls a timeout. Alabama comes out lined up with a empty backfield.. Shead takes the snap and fires to his right and 6'5 SR TE Chance Day is there as he snags the 2pt play to give Alabama the lead. (43-42) with 13 seconds to play.

Afa Moe took the return and tried his best breaking a 23 yd run before being brough down. FIU with only 8 seconds to play had no choice but to run a 5 WR empty backfield and pray for a miracle. Alabama wasn't going to give them one. The Tide would actually use Defensive Pass interference to keep the Panthers from having a chance to take it to the house. Now with just 3 seconds to play FIU tries 1 more time.. The Tide sent all their DB's back deep.. The pass is intended for Kris Newkirk, but the 99 speedster has the ball slip through his hands at the 15 yd line.. Ball game over...

You were not wrong.. This was my first time playing them.. They were actually really bad in my Coach Scott Dynasty.. I honestly think they only made the playoffs like 2 times in what the 18 seasons I played.. This game was unreal... I knew I was screwed when I scored with 55 seconds to play.. I should've went down and let more time off the clock. I honestly thought about even just running the clock down to like 5 seconds and kicking the FG but then I didn't want to risk them running it back for a touchdown or something. In hindsight it's what I should've done.

Exciting yet again Heartbreaker. When i threw the first pick I was bummed then Cordero picks off the very next throw and I was like yes I am back in it, then Hawkins throws the 100 yd Pick 6. Tompkins gave it his all and almost chased him down. Then to be able comeback in the 4th only to have them burn me for another 80 yard bomb was heatbreaking.. I was in complete shock when they went for 2 to get the win. It was a great call by them but sucks to lose that way.

Next year is going to be interesting. It's going to be run by committee till I see who is our best option and I have no clue who my #1 WR is. I got like 10 guys who could step up. Hopefully the 5* I redshirted has a big jump in training and hopefully Dawkins gets a nice boost too.

I got zero job offers worth taking. Boise Stare offered and well it would make sense for Miller to return to his Alma Mater I have already played so many seasons with BSU with Coach Scott I want something different.

I really wanted to Tennessee HC job but best I got was the DC opening which is funny cause Miller is a Offensive Coach

FIU showed great resolve bouncing back from the 100-yard pick six, but I can say I haven't seen - and granted I've been playing the old titles for so long - a CPU team go for two in that situation to win the game. Unfortunate that your quest for a perfect season ends in that fashion, but that should give you more motivation to finish the job next time around.

Also, pour one out for Wolverine Logan. Assuming that was his last game, his career has to be one of the most dominant I've ever seen in report history.

Yeah I have played quite a fee O.T. games. That was a first for me to have the CPU gor for it.

It was Logan's last game. At the end of the season. You can try and persuade players who are leaving. . And it well tell you your chances. It says None, Low Medium or High

Logan was a none, didn't even give me a option to try but he did his job 1000 carries and over 7500 yds and 100+ TD's in 3 seasons. I could ask him to return

Both Dinapoli and Cortez are projected 1st/2nd round as well and in the past I have always stuck to the rule if they are a 3rd round or better i don't bother trying to talk them into staying. Darby has a high chance to persuade but again he is the National Defense POY and Lombardi winner. I feel like he has nothing to prove.

It's crazy they won 2 games this season with a roster loaded with talent and have another Top-5 recruiting class coming in.. Basically right now for a SEC they.woild be my #1 choice and still would give me a nice rivalry with Florida and Florida State. Other options at some point would be maybe a Arkansas rebuild. The Hogs haven't good since the mid 60"s..

Brutal. It was the same kind of game against them two years ago with Ball State. Anytime I was on the verge of pulling away they stormed back.

I have no doubt Coach Miller can get the Panthers ship righted, even without the Wolverine.

Also agree with you on the Boise State non-move. Would have made sense for Coach Miller in story terms, but not with you having already dominated there previously. I've noticed the offer cycles go in two years stretches it feel like, so hopefully next year you'll get an offer that's intriguing. Or, not and just stick it out at FIU

END OF THE YEAR RECAP

MILLER TURNS DOWN BRONCOS

It's official, Coach Matt Miller will be returning for the 2031 season as he will complete at least Year 4 of his 5 year contract extension signed after the 2027 season.

Miller who has gone 78-13 in 6 seasons with his worst season coming in Year 1 when he led FIU to a (9-4) record well winning the New Orleans Bowl. In Year 2 Miller led FIU to a 11-2 season winning their 1st CUSA title before losing in the Round 2 of the playoffs to Texas A&M. In Year 3 FIU would go 15-2 Overall winning their 2nd CUSA title as well as the Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl and the schools first ever National Championship. In Year 4 Miller again led the Panthers to a CUSA title and a Orange Bowl victory before falling to Penn State in the the Semi Finals of the the CFP playoffs finishing 14-2..

In 2029, FIU moved to the ACC, and Miller once again led this team to a ACC Championship, before then winning the Fiesta Bowl and Rose Bowl on his way to the schools 2nd National Championship in 3 seasons finishing with a school record (15-1) record.

This past season brought another ACC title, a Peach Bowl victory and Cotton Bowl win before falling short in the National Championship game vs Alabama.

Miller a former Boise State WR who got his coach start with the Broncos and coach at BSU as recently as the 2024 season, was offered the chance to return to Boise this week, but reports are he turned it down..

The Broncos coming off a (12-1) season and Pac-16 Championship fell short of their goal to return to the playoffs just 1 year after dismissing Coach Spencer Danielson.

PANTHER SAY GOODBYE TO THE GREAT ONE

JR RB Tavon "Wolverine" Logan (92) has officially declared for the NFL Draft where he is expected to be the first RB in over 35 years to be selected #1 Overall.

Logan in 3 seasons shattered every NCAA Record, ACC record and FIU record as he leaves as the NCAA All-time rusher in yards and TD's scored in both a Career and Season. What's most remarkable is Logan didn't just break Barry Sanders record in 2029 with 421 carries for 3526 yds and 50 TD, but his 2030 season would've been a new record as well finishing with 327 carries for 2712 yds and 38 TD's.

Logan officially leaves with 1008 career carries for 7760 yds and 105 TD's rushing and 909 yds receiving on 90 rec with another additional 11 TD's. Logan a 2 time NCAA Player of the Year and 2 time Heisman winner and 3 time Doak Walker Award winner leaves some huge shoes to fill...

SR RB Titus Tompkins (93) in 4 seasons leaves FIU with 399 career carries for 2434 yds and 36 TD's with his best season coming this year when he posted 206 carries for 1226 yds and 14 TD's.

A huge reason for Logan/Tompkins's success was the blocking of SR FB Isaiah Dennis (74). Dennis wasn't just a blocker though, as he posted 87 carries for 447 yds (5.5 avg) and 8 TD's over 4 seasons.

SR WR Tyler Cisco (85) was one of the first 4* Recruits to sign with Coach Miller at FIU and was given the coveted #2 Jersey because of it. Cisco did the Deuce proud finishing this season with a team high 77 rec for 1241 yds and 10 TD's. For his career Cisco had 160 receptions for 2529 yds and 19 TD's.

FIU say's goodbye to all 5 Starters on the 0-Line as well as the team's #1 reserve.. Reports are several of them are projected to be picked in the latter rounds of the Draft..

LT C. Cole (85), LG R. Anzalone (88), C T. Bliss (82), RG S Jaimes (89), RT C. Hodel (88) and T/G D. Penny (84).

Reports are Logan isn't the only Junior declaring early.. We are being told both DE's John Dinapoli and Cortez Darby will also be leaving a year early.

Dinapoli (91) registered 104 tackles with 28 TFL and 23 sacks in his career including 53 Tackles, 19 TFL and 9.5 sacks this past season.

Darby (90) has a breakout year this season as he was named the National Defensive POY, Best DE and Lombardi winner as he sets a new school record with 16.5 sacks this season to go with 50 Tackles and 14 TFL.

FIU also says goodbye to (5) multi- year starter's

DT BJ Faust (83). Faust in his career posted 115 Tackles with 27 TFL and 19.5 Sacks.

SS Oscar Beal (79). Beal named the Best DB of 2030, posted 212 Tackles with 9 TFL, 2.5 sacks and had 12 INT over the past 3 seasons.

FS TJ Everett (85). Everett posted 167 Tackles, 5 TFL and 4 INT with 21 Pass Deflections in his career.

OLB Sam Troung (77). Troung had 108 Tackles, 13 TFL, 4.0 Sacks and 1 INT over past 3 seasons as a on and off starter.

SR CB Joey Cordero (83). Cordero posted 120 Tackles and had 8 INT's in his career including a team high 5 this season including a key INT in the National Championship game vs the Tide.

Logan does indeed go #1, with Tompkins and Dinapoli both joining him in the 1st Round. Darby went early 2nd, well Jamies (5th) Anzalone and Hodel (6th) all got drafted as well..

Coach Miller said before the start of the year he wanted a Top-10 class, but later amended that statement to say he wanted a Top-5 class this season..

FIU LANDS #5 OVERALL CLASS

Coach Matt Miller completed his mission bringing in the #5 Overall Class of 2030... Miller ended up signing 27 players in total signing 10 in the Off-season including a pair of 4*'s out of the Transfer Portal and 8 more 3* Recruits bring the total to (2-5*, 13-4*, 12-3*)...

4* CB Jose Marciano (FSU) and 4* WR Meeks (Cincinnati) headline the Transfer Portal Additions. FIU also added 3* FS Jamie Alie (UCF).
