    Re: NFL Off Topic

I think its especially outrageous that a reporter would ask a follow up question about other players' spouses after Hardy's comment on Brady's wife.

Of course with Hardy's recent past he's going to be looked at more closely (well by Katie Nolan at least, the rest of the media is playing along with him), but if any player comments about another player's wife then I think its just as inappropriate. In a league where celebrating touchdowns is awarded with a fine I don't see how anybody making those comments can come out unscathed.

I think it's outrageous that Hardy gave an answer to a question about his case with he wants to play football. Then when asked a question about football he talks about another player's wife and her sister.

@DarrenHeitner: Anyone can file a lawsuit. The FD/DK one was rushed, may get some press, but not a threat to daily fantasy.

He then responded to someone asking if it could be "fixed by an amended pleading.":

@DarrenHeitner: @garylanglais the bases of the causes of actions are weak, class cert will be very difficult & I don't see jurisdiction.

So from what I'm gathering(someone correct me if I'm wrong), we don't want our athletes complimenting another athlete's S.O?

If I'm an NFL Player and somebody were to compliment my girl and tell me "Good job Pack, you hit it out the park bro", id be like "Thanks, man". What reason would I have to be mad at someone giving me props snagging the girl I have?

It's weird to me because if you go in the OS Picture Thread where posters have pictures of them and their woman/S.O and the comments that are said in there, they're not that much different.

Should he have chosen his words more carefully? Personally speaking, no but I can somewhat understand why others would. But I also do think it is getting overblown(especially by Florio).

Current circumstances surrounding Hardy do not afford him the luxury of receiving the benefit of the doubt. Any other player saying such a thing could be looked at as gamesmanship. Whether you feel players wives are fair game is another story. In this case it shows a total lack of awareness on his part.

This. Tweaking Brady when he already appears to be on a mission to punish the entire league for the deflategate fiasco is probably not very smart.

If he wasn't getting paid millions of dollars, as well as having his suspension reduced, maybe he'd have more humility.

Forgive me but...get outta here with that crap. I'm not preparing a political speech when I post comments. He did get into trouble. You have my most insincere apologies if you feel I did not word my post strongly enough.

                          Fair enough.

Like I said, I understand why others may feel differently/uncomfortable/bothered by his comments. Just sucks that there's a double standard when it comes to this since that shouldn't matter at all if the comments are offensive. They shouldn't be any less "offensive" if Manning says it just because he's got a clean record.

Idk...my stance on this is pretty much, "Nothing to see here, move along folks".

It's all about perceived intentions behind the words. If Peyton says something, we can reasonably assume he's just paying a compliment. When Hardy says something, I think it's more reasonable to assume he's got less than cordial intentions.

Yes, Greg Hardy is probably a poor human being.

But there was nothing wrong with any of the comments he made. We live in an age where some people have to be offended by something.
I agree that there was nothing wrong with the words that came out of his mouth (specifically about "guns a blazing" which is a figure of speech)... which is all you and Pack are sticking to.

I even agree to an extent that it doesn't matter if Hardy said it or Peyton said it (I still think it's poor taste but don't think a big deal should be made out of it).

But the thing is he is a representative of the NFL, and the fact that he's about to get back out there and play, shows no remorse and objectifies women in the process of talking about getting back to football looks horrible in the face of a league that throws a sheet of pink paint on every uniform and stadium for a month, has pretty much black balled Ray Rice out of the league, and continues to act like they care greatly about things like domestic violence.

I may have gone into more detail in the other thread, but that video isn't spot on bc of what Hardy said. It's spot on bc the nfl is a joke with regards to this, and Jerry Jones should be seen as a spokesperson for the league and he just pushed Hardy's comments even more.

And I'm usually the one that thinks people go too far with attacking the league and the commissioner.

Everyone keeps trying to separate the words that were said from the person that said them. The words are not any less or more offensive regardless of who said them.

It's not even about the words that were uttered so much as it's about Hardy. Why does it suck that there's a "double standard" for Hardy? That guy's caught enough breaks already, why are we trying to make excuses for him?

I am by no means a politically correct person. What Hardy said isn't something I personally would find offensive. But how in the world can you separate Hardy's past from the way he's presenting himself a day after returning from his suspension? That was what the big deal is, I thought.

For full disclosure, I didn't watch the video that was posted before, I'm speaking from my own personal view. Wwharton mentioned how Ray Rice has been blackballed from the league, probably deservedly so, yet here's Hardy, getting ready to suit up and still shamelessly acting like a POS. It's a joke.

My stance on Greg Hardy is "**** that guy."
