Pin was tucked into a back left hole location. Seeing as I'm a lefty I had to play a fade (or tried to at least lol).

6 iron was the club that was needed to play a fade that would get me close to the pin but the ball didn't fade and went way right of the green.

Finally got time to watch that but he's taking about long chip shots. I can stop those. I mean like right off the green maybe 10-15 yards back at most. I can't get that to freaking spin lol

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played first round of the season of the weekend. Did what I normally do and almost chipped in from about 40 yards. I have a question about alignment. I've noticed that I really don't have a specific way i try to line up. My buddy I was golfing with said it looks like I know I'm lining up wrong and trying to compensate with my swing. Any tips/pointers on correcting my lineup at ball address so I know I'm aiming where I want?

            Part 1 might help.

Something that I did to fix it as I really struggled with this..

Heard these words from a PGA member, pretend you are on a train track and your ball is on the outside while you are inside the track.

You will look like your lined up left (assuming your a righty) but you'll be just right.

I think from 100+ yards it looks about 3-5 yards left. Closer you are, the less left you'll seem.

Soon as I started doing that, I started hitting right at the flag.

Man, TaylorMade must really want me to use their stuff. First they sent me a sleeve on the Project (a) balls. Now, I just received an email telling me that I was one of the contest winners and I will be getting a SpeedBlade 6 iron to knock around! Pretty cool, to "win" stuff online like that. Now if I could only get them to give me an SLDR driver to try. Can't justify buying one after I bought the R1 last year.

It's generally the same idea though.

You need to create a lot of speed with a descending blow with an open club face. As you hit the ball, the club face must remain open, in other words the toe of the club cannot roll over like on a normal shot.

To be fair, it's much more difficult to do this on short shots because of the lack of compression of the golf ball. 10-15 yards you probably won't notice a ton of spin

Alignment has been one of the most important improvements i've made over the last 2 or 3 years! Thinking of it like train tracks does help, also if you lay down clubs to actually SEE it... that helps imagine it

one club just inside the ball, down the target line; one perpendicular to that.. and a third parallel to your target line.

(Reminder, I believe it is illegal to lay the club down as he mentions)

Just saying that incase you play with someone who is a stickler for rules or competitive play.

I use to use the club I was using when playing with my buddies to see my actual aim and it does help a ton, just reminding you incase you play as mentioned above.

Yeah I'll be honest if someone in my foursome was laying down clubs on every shot I would get annoyed.

But if you take that to the range and practice your preshot routine with them the hit the course w/o but still carry on your routine that could really help with alignment.

For me I pick a spot about a foot infront of my intended target line and ad address have my shoulders just inside that line. If that makes sense.

I align myself parallel to the club head. I stand behind my ball, pick an intermediate target then walk in staring that point in the ground and point my club face at it.

Once I'm comfortable with my club face alignment I'll go ahead and setup in my posture and align myself parallel with the club head.

Actually, one thing that can slightly help. Stand right behind the ball, point your club where you are aiming and touch the ground in front.. then just slide the club over, keeping it angled, until you are where you'd be to hit it. The angle of the club will make your feet angled (Like laying it on the ground but this is quicker and legal) and you should be good, keep doing this until you get used to lining up right.

I still do that from time to time but you can't even tell I am lining up as I make it in one natural motion (Think of a baseball player doing the bat swaying when digging into the plate) lol
