    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I was able to get in 3 rounds this long weekend and shot 76 each and every day. I was lucky today as I took a triple on home 10, but rebounded with 2 birdies on two of the last four holes.

Course is par 71 for those keeping track.

All 3 rounds were so different it was weird. Saturday I scrambled, but my putter was on fire. Sunday, I had 2 doubles on the last 3 holes, I was smashing my driver and just leaving long birdie putts. Today I couldn't find the fairway off the tee and my putter was good, but I chipped 5 shots today within 2 feet and that saved me. Maybe 1 day it will all come together for a round and I can finally retire.

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Hit the range tonight trying to get that last round behind me. I'm just chalking it up to the wind. Really focused on my wedge game and woods. Really trying to make sure I don't cast the club. Hit 150 balls at the range and then hit the practice area to work on those 20 to 30 yard pitch shots. Hit another 100 or so pitches there. Puttin my weight on the left side and not using any wrists at all. Using a 58* Vokey and was finally getting them to bounce once and then come to a stop with about a 3 foot roll. Put about the last 20 within 6 feet, really nice grouping. Going to get back out Friday night and hammer that home. Got a Big 2 man best ball next week worth about 1500 to the bracket winner and then the bracket winners go to a shootout for another 1000 or so.

Anyone wanna go on the record on picking the PGA winner this coming weekend?

Boring as hell pick, but I'll take Spieth to get his 3rd major this year (I mean the pick is boring, not Spieth). He's just playing so well and has no weaknesses in his game whatsoever.

I'll go with a weird pick. Matt Kuchar.

Remember when it was Tiger or the field every week? Think I'll take the field.

I'm not sure any Vegas sports book will offer you that bet any more...Or they will, for -10000.

I think I've plateaued at this point. It seems like I've reached the limits of what can be accomplished by just going out and hitting balls at the range....
What do you normally shoot? I was going to take lessons, but I decided to see if I could do it myself. I started counting and tracking every shot. So, what happened with my drives, how many irons shots, from what kind of lie ... what about my short game, and of course putting.

To my surprise, even though my drive had an abysmal slice, I learned that putting was my worst enemy. I went to the local course's putting green just four times, one to two hours each time. First practiced those annoying 3-footers, then longer putts. My score went from a 105 steady to 95 my very next round. The next few rounds were all between 92 and 96. The second worst was my drive, so I went to the range and *only* hit my driver for three visits. Started shooting 87 -97ish. I was finding the fairway more often, my drive was straighter, but Im pretty good from the rough and tight spots. I honestly think most of that jump in score regarding my improved drive was from not losing so many strokes alone.

My point is make sure you know what the weakest part of your game is, and youd be surprised what just a little bit of short term focus on that part of your game will do. That drop of steady strokes was in about a three week period, hitting the putting green and the driving range hard on my days off.

One last bit from me - a friend of mine is an instructor, and while I was learning, hed give me the odd pointer, but we were out for the good time. Id watch him and try to learn. I think one of the best bits of information he gave me was, if youre learning, you dont even know what the ball does or what feels "normal" yet. He said one of the biggest mistakes amateurs make is not caring about their ball. He said, yes, its true the ball doesnt make a big difference for a lot of players, but hitting different brands and types/quality of balls all the time will screw up your swing. You cant get used to what the impact feels like, and you dont know whether the ball will hold or roll, and distance control is a nightmare.

                  Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Shot at 88 yesterday even with a triple on a par 3 and a double on 18. Other than those holes, I had one bad shot on 10, a 290 yard , downhill par 4. You must lay up off the tee and be left with a wedge because there is water just short of the green. Anyway, my wedge shot was thin, but it hit the rough just over the hazard and rolled to within 2 feet. That was my only birdie, because I can't make 5-8 foot putts as of late. I can hit long putts close to the hole, but for some reason, I can't sink those 2nd putts. So after my round, I went over to the practice green and did the Jordan Spieth trick of looking at the hole. I made about 90%. Other highlights included an up and down from 60 yards on a par 3 after a terrible tee shot. I sank a 25 footer to save that par, and gave a big fist pump.

I'm playing again Friday with a lesson maybe Thursday night. Next week, I'm playing in Rhode Island, so I can't expect to shoot as well on a course I've never played. But, we''ll see. My irons are on point right now after I made a fix. My knees always came up and out of the shot just before I hit the ball. Now, I need to drviethe ball better and straighter. I have a nice power fade like Bubba (although I'm righty), but at times I can't control it.

                          Gonna go with Henrik Stenson.

Others I like are Jason Day and Rickie Fowler. My flyer so to say, is Gary Woodland.

EDIT: take that back I'll take Day to finally pull through. Spieth will at least be around on Sunday, I don't think he'll win though.

And Tiger will for sure miss the cut.

For free I hope, lol. $385 a round plus you have to pay for and tip a caddie for at least $105 total.
