I wouldn't be averse to a whole swing overhaul, but I've done that once by myself and I'll never do it again. I'd be willing to do it, but only under the care of a trained professional who I trust (!).
I have a couple guys at work who are about 20-25 handicaps in the 90's mostly but get into triple digits sometimes. I am going to take them to the range and see if I can teach them these principles. If I can get them striping the ball consistently, I'll takes some videos and post them.

That'd be awesome. If you can get them striping it, I think you've found your new calling in life...(!)

I can identify problems explain the technique just fine, executing it myself is a whole different ball game

That's pretty much the art of being a good teacher, though. Butch Harmon couldn't beat the 100th ranked guy on the tour, but he can probably help that guy into the top 20 given enough time.

I'm working on how to get my right shoulder rotated so my hands are in front of me on the downswing. I've gone from a standard 'over-the-top' slice to now being consistently 'stuck behind' and thinning everything. The good news is, I have confirmed that I have the ability to really change my swing to address problems. The bad news is that I can't find the happy medium. It's like I have a "hot" and a "cold" faucet knob, but I can only use 1 at a time and only on full blast...

I am having a hard time picturing your issue. Put the ball back in your stance a little bit, take the club back to the inside and just let it drop. Hit down on the ball with the irons. Don't think about where your hands are. See the ball, watch the ball, hit the ball.

Post a video of your swing if you can.

              Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Really glad to hear that Gravity golf concepts are working, fist. Thanks for the messages as well.

I've actually decided to swear off any online golf instruction. Been doing it for far too long. So I committed today and paid my local pro (I'm in the metro, there are a lot of local pros) 5 lessons worth.

First lesson today, was fixing my address, and club path. I had been shanking the ball and hitting weak slices, something I've never done.

Here's what we worked on specifcally. Basically, I had a swing of a guy who was 6'3, not of my actual 5'8. I can raise the arms up for leverage and roll the face over. No, I need to rotate my pelvis and stay down on the ball. That's what I instantly enjoyed about him. He gave me the swing of my body stature, not of his method.

              1. Set up: Hands higher at address, meaning to the point the leading edge of the club was flat on the ground. Also, hands further back because I had a tendency to forward press too much, thus setting up with an open clubface. Lastly, I needed to set up more on my heels than toes, and the ball itself would be closer to my toe of the club than the middle-to-heel.

              2. Backswing: No arms, just rotation of my pelvis...rotate....and up

              3. Downsing: Still no arms, staying down on the ball so I'm not bobbing up and down hitting thin shots, and feel like hitting inside-out.

Results: Absolutely flushed with pure compression. I've never compress the ball the way I was compressing my 8-iron before. Thin Divots after the ball, and ball soaring through the air. Had a nice baby fade on each shot, I can definitely get used to that.

Next lesson is set for next Saturday, same time. Feeling good, and looking forward to working on this.

                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Things finally clicked on the course today. Shot a 74 with 3 birds and 12 greens in regulation. The misses were just off the green. Should have gone lower. Left a couple putts just on the edge and burned a couple edges and had a lip out and hit the pin on a chip. Overall really happy drive going about 270 3 wood about 240 opened up my irons a little so they would go a bit higher and land softer. 7 iron going about 165 and each club take about 10 yards off of that so 9 iron 145. 6 iron about 175, etc. looking forward to golf league tomorrow.

Maryland National was a challenge. Lol
Front nine was a blur and shot 52.
Recovered a bit with a back nine 46.

Really want to play there again though.

Last 3 rounds I've been flirting with breaking 80. I know what I'm doing wrong, but sometimes my body just wants me to duff the ball. It almost always happen in the middle of the fairway.

It looks like a good stretch of nice weather is here in Toronto.
I am the lesson after the fall.

I just want to be able to play as I haven't played since Halloween day, last year. Messed my back up. Have 2 more PT sessions, hoping I'll be good to go after that.

That sucks, man, but hopefully you are feeling better. But you did the right thing - definitely do not want to fool around with back injuries. Make sure you're 100% before you get back out there.

                          Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Finally feel like I'm getting back in a groove. 86 last round, 85 today...with two triple bogeys lol. Could have been something special. Working really hard at getting back to where I was a couple of years ago. I used to always have a chance at breaking 80, last two years I'm struggling to break 90.

Getting off the tee with my driver has been a huge positive development. It went from being my biggest strength to my biggest weakness back to my biggest strength the last few weeks. I'm back to being in position to reach par 5's in two playing from the blue tees which is where I would gain most of my strokes.

Not all was rosy....along with the back to back triple bogeys, I took 39 putts which is just awful...but encouraging as well since an 85 could have been an 80 or better real quick.

Playing Monday again and hopefully a few more rounds before my buddies and I play in our annual Ryder Cup style tourney.

Wild dispersion between rounds and hole-to-hole continue for me. I had a stretch where I went par-birdie-birdie-double-triple-bogey. Very rare for me to get all sync'd up all at the same time for any significant stretch of the day. And my self-rescue ability remains poor.

But hey - it's the beginning of summer and we've got a long way to go! And it stays light DEEP into the evening. Gotta love it.

Lack of Consistency can be all mental or it can be because of the different variables on the course. You obviously have some game if you went 2 under in a 3 hole stretch. So what caused the breakdown on the other holes?

The key to consistency is getting a repeatable swing and that just takes hours of pounding at the range. I've finally got what I believe is a repeatable go to swing and the mechanics are the same from my lob wedge all the way through to my 3 wood and even the driver.

There is no reason not to hit a drive in the fairway every time. Now I obviously don't, but there is no reason not to. I pick the tee height and the alignment, etc. It's a mental breakdown missing the fairway. From there it's usually things beyond your control. Behind a tree, buried in deep rough, etc. That's where it becomes critical to get things back into your control, you punch out to a spot on the fairway where it just becomes back to mental focus to hit the green, one putt if possible but make sure to take the 2 putt to get bogey and move on. Only go for the miracle shots when playing straight skins and birdies pay and pars walk. Even if you are playing match play just play the hole to get bogey and put some pressure on the opponent. Never take yourself out of a hole. Trying to pull off a miracle shot out of a heinous lie rarely pays off because you don't practice it. If you just had bogeys and pars on the card, you only need 10 pars to shoot 80, throw in some birds and you are in the 70's.
