    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

My wife's grandfather just sent me his old Cobra driver. Tested it out today. No matter what driver I use I'm just not comfortable and have a huge slice. Typically use a 4 iron off tee, that's how bad I am with a driver.

I will say with the adjusters on the head of the club, I was able to minimize the slice slightly. Playing Friday on a course with tight fairways. So will see if I can finally use a driver.

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I had a bad slice for a few years (2 years ago I didn't even carry driver)..
Eventually fixed it (Stronger grip and drills to come inside out)

but new issue was a straight push.
I was coming inside good (maybe too much) but wasn't turning and always had my hands beat the head to the ball.

      The fix for me:
Concentrate on making sure I got a good hip turn and the "Feel/thought process" of trying to hit the ball High left.

I'm either dead straight now or with a nice draw.

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I gotta play more golf. Its 3 rd week of July and I have played a whopping 3 times.

1st game was a work best ball tourney so doesn't really count. We weren't good as we were +4 on the day. But not bad considering we only had 3 team members and two of us are easily +20 or more HCP and another was a first time golfer.

2nd game was two weeks ago at PGA stop Glen Abbey - Home of this years Canadian Open. Course was starting to have some thick rough and the greens are probably the fastest I have ever played. I feel I hit the ball well just didn't score.....my 30 yards in to the green game needs work. Shot 109 which i wan't too upset about it being the Abbey.

3rd Game was on Friday at a course near my house. Should have broken 100. Front 48 Back 52. This included a stretch of 4 holes on the Back 9 of PAR, PAR, BIRDIE, PAR. If I would just consistently play I think i could shoot mid 90s all the time and push to break 90 by the end of the year.

Looking forward to some more rounds this summer and hopefully to get a bunch in the fall as well before the season ends. Feels good getting the golf bug again.

Wow, I haven't checked in here in a while. Good to see everybody still out there trying to find that reason to keep living.

I've had some great rounds lately. +1, +1, +3. Haven't been able to string 3 rounds like that together since I was 20 yrs old and playing some of the best golf of my life.

The first +1 I had 2 doubles, an eagle and a birdie. Almost drained a 20 yard sand wedge from the bunker to shoot par.

Second +1, roughly had an idea what I was shooting going to 18, figured I needed a birdie to shoot par. Put my approach 28 ft away, but on a downhill lie. Anyway, figuring "what the heck, either a 71 or it doesn't matter". Hit my putt firm and it's tracking at the hole. Hits dead center but had way too much speed and ends 12 feet past. Leave the next one on the high side and tap in for bogey. Get to the cart and add up the score......72!! All I had to do was par and I shoot par. smh.

Last one hurt. -1 after 13 and bogey out with 2 easy birdie holes left. Couldn't keep the drives in the fairway but hit my irons well and had 1.4 putts per hole.

Funny thing is I am a 12 handicap so I know what the next round is bringing.
          3 previous rounds 81,86,89.

Due to kidney stones and a back issue, my golf season is most likely over.

            This stinks.

It's cool. Just means I'll have to play twice as much next year

That sucks, man. Sorry to hear that, but first things first, hope you're feeling better. Either one of those problems alone is horrible, but both? Ouch.

As you said....make up for it next season!

You won't be anywhere near a 12 handicap if you posted those scores. You should be down to a high 8 or less.

Broke 80 again this year. Game is starting to come together nicely. Made some great putts, just needed to get my chips a tad closer.

                        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Man, I'm impressed with how good the golfers on this forum are. I think at some point, you either have a natural knack for the game, or you don't. I'm pretty firmly in the latter category.... Not that it has stopped me from playing as much as possible.

Went to the range yesterday to stay in a groove, and man...you ever have a day at the range where nothing is coming together and you just can't figure out what's wrong? I've come to the opinion that on those days, you just pack up the sticks and leave if you've given it a good, honest thought about the problems and haven't come up with a good reason. For whatever reason, I just think some days the mind-body connection isn't there and you have to just forget about it and come back another day.

There's no reason one day you can consistently hit the right part of the face with a good tempo and 2 days later you're all over the place with no rhythm at all. Hard to understand. I'm going back as soon as I can to see if I can't work it out, but yesterday I was just so fed up I had to cut bait and regroup....

Game is in shambles. Shot a bad 82 today. I'm not putting good swings on anything except for my wedges. Seeing my coach tomorrow.

68 rounds so far this summer.
                          Best round 76.
                          Worst round 90.

I'm at the point where if I'm not breaking 80, I'm not happy. Not too bad of a problem to have.
I am the lesson after the fall.

Ya, down to a 10 which is good. Dropped a 73-73-79-81 so didn't have as much of an effect as I was thinking it would. I was a 5 back when I was a lot younger so that is what I am shooting for. I bought a new Scotty Cameron last year, put on a bigger grip and it is really making a difference this year. Hopefully I can keep rolling.
