    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Was able to get out yesterday and get some quality range time in. Have to take advantage of the weather whenever there is a break here in Southern Ohio.

I did win the bid on this Scotty Cameron off Ebay last week for $262. Been wanting one and finally took the plunge.

I'll definitely be swapping out a few things in my bag again this year.
I actually am looking for some new irons. One thing I'd like (along with everyone else, I guess) is a somewhat forgiving iron with modern technology, but the look/feel of a more classic iron. I hate the huge, bulky irons with really massive toplines, even though they definitely do add yardage. I've always been a Titleist iron player, so I do have some brand preference, but I'd be willing to try a new direction if it met my criteria. I'll keep my eye out for the new stuff when the demo days start making their rounds.

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

The only equipment upgrade I'll need this year is shoes. May splurge a bit and get some new Ecco's.

In terms of clubs, last year was my first with my MP5's and full year with the Nike Vapor driver, I dropped my handicap from a 16 to an 11 in the span of 4 months. I did get a new Ping Anser putter for Christmas, so looking forward to using that club to sink more birdies!

It's still freezing outside, so there's no chance I'll be able to sneak in a round anytime soon. Ah, golf!

If you're looking to stick with Titleist, I think pretty highly of the AP3 that came out. Mizuno continues to kill it with the JPX 900 line. Depending on price point preference, I would give the TaylorMade P790's a look. I put those in the bag back in fall, they're something special alright. Though I'm likely going to put the M3 irons in for my long irons. Definitely growing to be a fan of progressive combo sets. I've definitely started to fit more people into set ups like that.

Be on the look out for the P790 UDI coming out in spring. Callaway had the X Forged UT come out, that's a solid set up. Personally I prefer both of those over the TMB. I actually picked up the M2 LIFT last year, which was a solid set up for me.

I've had my same set of clubs for a few years now. I'm the type of person where if I'm comfortable with what I'm playing there is no need to change. I've tried the new equipment that has launched the past couple years and while I'm gaining a few yards I'm not sold 100% to put new clubs into play. I shoot high 60's/ low 70's with my current sticks so I figure there's no need to change.

Well heck I guess not lol. I wouldn’t change either shooting those type of scores. Not worth a few extra yards.

No and I've always been a feel guy and nothing beats the feeling of my current sticks. My woods are the 910 series from Titleist which are 8 years old now and I've had them for about 5 years. My irons are the 712 AP2's which I've had for about 4 and a half years now.

If I found something that felt better than what I currently game then I'd consider switching for sure.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I'll be testing and more than likely getting, the Ping G400. I love my G25.
Figured I'd skip the G30 and go straight to the G400.
I really like the looks of it. Hopefully I hit it well during testing.

If I could play in the high 60's/low 70's, I'd never switch one thing in my bag. Ever.

One problem I have with buying new equipment - especially something like irons - is you really have to play a round or two with them to get a sense of whether you like them or not. I know there are some shops that will loan you out a set to see, but to be honest, I'd really have to take out 3-4 sets to get a sense of what I like and don't like, and I always feel like after 1-2 loaners, you're pushing their patience (or I get the sense they think you're trying to scam them somehow).

I suppose the ideal is to go to a real grass driving range and spend an hour or two hitting a ton of balls with a few different sets to get a sense of what you do and don't like. But that option doesn't exist in most places outside of Carlsbad, CA so I'm always reluctant to drop the serious cash required to change sets. My Titleist 704 CB's are pretty trusty, and any scoring issues I have are not equipment-related...

I'm thinking that's what I'll be replacing my M1 440 with. Hit the M4 about ten times and loved the sound and feel. Just gotta narrow down the shaft I want, and it should be a great set up.

Big fan of the G400. I just saw they launched the G400 Max today. So if you need a little more forgiveness, that will be a great option. Depending on the type of ball flight you produce, definitely check out their Alta Tour shaft, love that shaft.

That's part of why I'm a big believer in going to fitting events and taking your sticks to get a comparison, get dialed in on them and trust those specs. The biggest issue with that is if you second guess the fitting. I'm a tinkerer, and I fit a ton, so I'm always trying to change different things in my bag. But when I fit people and we get them dialed in and they trust it, it's usually very successful.

I'm going by myself since my wife can't get time off of school so it should be a perfect, quiet weekend of golf.

The Ping drivers are wonderfully easy to hit. There isn’t much difference between each of the last few models year-to-year but you might see some skipping a couple models from the G25 (G30, and G were in between) to the G400. I have the G and didn’t see much difference with the current G400 when trying it. Maybe it’s two or three yards longer but that’s really not so much on a realistic scale. It certainly didn’t seem more accurate than the G.

But really, all modern drivers are awesome. Ping, Taylor Made, Etc... they’re awesome tech compared to even just 10 years ago. Find on you like the look of and that seems to mesh at least OK with your swing and you can’t go wrong.
