    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

So, I'm kinda/sorta in the market for a new set of irons, but I really want to be able to hit a bunch of different sets before making a decision. Does anyone know of a place (nationwide chain or something where there are at least locations in most major metropolitan areas) where I can go hit a bunch of balls with a bunch of different iron sets without someone hovering over me while I do it? Honestly, for me to really get a feel for a set of clubs, I have to hit easily 40-50 balls minimum with a few different irons, and I want to hit a lot of different sets.

Appreciate any info/advice you guys might have. I'm in no rush, BTW - might not even be this year but I want to start looking.

I would suggest you go to a decent local muni and become friendly with the pro. There are decent deals all the time on slightly used sets if you want to go that way.

If you can live with hitting irons off a mat you might check out local repair shops.

It’s amazing how one or two small things can make or break your swing. Realized earlier this year I was moving my head during my backswing and been trying to fix it. Noticed right away I’m hitting my irons more flush. Actually had some distance control issues over the weekend. Just one or two changes can add 20 yards to your clubs.

Just got fitted for new irons at Turning Stone Golf Resort, awesome experience. I had the top fitters undivided attention for 90 minutes, I really feel like I got the best clubs and shafts for me. I decided on Titleist AP1s with stiff shafts and I got the 818H with 19 degree loft. I am going to keep my wedges from my previous set because I have those dialed in perfectly so I am not going to fix what's not broken.

Really can't wait to get these bad boys in my hands. I even got 3 passes to their courses, 1 for Atunyote which is probably the 2nd best public course in NY (Bethpage is#1).

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Fired a 74 hitting 15/16 fairways yesterday. Not too bad for a guy who's down about 40 rounds this year. Been struggling to find a putter that I really like. Been bouncing between the Spider Mini and a couple different blade putters. I want to go with a blade, but not finding anything I love. I've putted well considering the constant changes, but I need to find something by the end of the season.

Ordered up the new TaylorMade GAPR, and should be here on Wednesday. Pretty stoked to get a really forgiving driving iron in the bag. Been hitting the driver well this year, but there's a few holes at the courses that I play a lot, where an iron off the tee works better. I've played a stock GAPR Mid 3 iron a couple times so far (I ordered mine with a Graphite Design Di 8), and couldn't get over how easy it is to hit out of the rough either. I'll have a hard time finding myself going back to putting a hybrid back in the bag.

Very nice!!! This will be the first year that I won’t be making upgrades to my bag in years. Last year I gutted my whole bag including the bag. Only thing I will be getting come the Golf Show in January will be several boxes of Srixon Z-Star balls, tees and a few gloves. Wouldn’t mind having a pair of the Jordan golf shoes that Mike24forever has.

This year I played the most golf in one season in over 10 years and I don’t plan on slacking up.

I don't like the golf off-season. I was on such a roll this year lowering my handicap from 11 to 5. Next year I hope to take another leap and get it even lower. I'm 43 years old an playing the best golf of my life.

I may get some new twigs this year, but I have been hitting mine so well I don't know if I can.

Above average wedges...I would have gone with a couple Milled Grinds and a HiToe...

Good shaft though. Aldila had a strong year this year with their new shafts. Was a big of the Synergy. Fit a lot of people. Solid feel. A little light for my liking for my own game. But versatile shaft.

Off season has been brutal thus far. Have gotten to see some new product from various manufacturers. Going to be an incredible year for anyone looking for new sticks. Already thinking about what I might switch in my bag. I'm sure the new driver. But I think a new fairway wood as well.

With picking up GAPR and P790's still going strong, plus new wedges last year. It really should just be driver, fairway wood, and probably a putter or two for me this year.

Luckily last year I only missed 4 weeks total. This yeasr it will be a few months since I had hip replacement. Hoping to be back out by spring.

Supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow and Friday, but they are calling for storms/rain. If its not too terrible on Friday, I may sneak out of work early and try to play 9.

Played for the first time in about 25 years Wednesday with my dad. Course was soaked, but it was still fun. On the first hole (par 4) I had a long putt for par that came up short. Tapped it in for bogey. I was pretty terrible after that, but we're going to try to go again when the weather gets better.
