    The OS Golfer's Thread!

Didn’t play the way I wanted with my Ping G irons the past 2 years and I’m seriously thinking about jumping ship to Taylor Made and the M4 irons. I’m even considering the new G700 irons that Ping is releasing at the end of this month. Pray for me!!

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I just got back from Myrtle Beach, did 4 rounds in 2.5 days and all I can think about is how much it sucks that I won't be golfing for at least another month. I golfed at Myrtle Beach National: Kings North Friday in the Afternoon, Barefoot Resort Love Course Saturday morning, The Resort Club at Grand Dunes Saturday Afternoon, and TPC Myrtle Beach Sunday morning.

Overall I was blown away by the course designs and level of service at these courses. The only course that disappointed me was The Resort Club, the greens there were in very bad shape(no grass, it played like you were putting on cardboard).

The most scenic course was MBN Kings North, it was absolutely gorgeous. It certainly takes a good amount of skill to play there, if you are not accurate with your driver then you will lose a lot of balls. If you avoid the water then you need to deal with the crazy amount of sand traps.

The most Challenging for me was TPC but a lot of that was self induced error on my part. It was the last course I played and my elbow was hurting on almost every shot. I could not hit a ball off the tee box, it was frustrating to be driving the ball so poorly on such a beautiful course. Luckily I was solid with my woods, irons, and wedges so I managed a 99. This course kicked my butt, I need to go back and do better.

The Most fun course for me was the Barefoot Resort Love course, I had my best game here but I loved the layout. I'm coming back next winter with some friends and I want to stay at this resort, they have 3 other courses and if the Love course is anything like the others then I know this is where I want to play.

The one thing I noticed at all the courses was how easy the greens were. Only TPC has a few "difficult" greens, nothing too crazy though.

The G700s are available to be fit to and preorder. They're not bad at all.

If you want M4's, come to Wisconsin and I'll fit you for them. Ha.

Redid my scoring sticks this year. Damn the HiToe is so good.

Played today and the inconsistency I’m having with the Ping G irons is and have been driving me nuts. I think I’m going to finally move away from Ping after roughly a 15 year relationship that started with the I3+. Gonna throw my irons up on Ebay tonight and see what I get. Hoping around $400 should be fair.

M4’s will be the next irons that will go in my bag.

Definitely get fit for them. No idea what your swing is like, but if you have the chance, hit the XP100's that come stock in the M3's. One of the Nippon Modus shafts, and certainly KBS Tour C-Tapers. All no upcharge, all great shafts. I've fallen in love with Nippon Modus Tour 120's in my irons, and ended up putting a KBS in my wedges.

I wasn't too psyched about going three different finishes, but I needed a black satin wedge back in the back. Trying to be as unbiased as possible, but everyone needs to try out the HiToe wedge. It's so versatile, so forgiving. It really gives amateur golfers a workable club, that they don't have to be intimidated by. And even the stock set up is really good.

Update, I sold my irons last week for $430 with shipping. I had my mind set on the TM M4’s but now I’m thinking about going back to Pings. I have a chance to get the Ping G400 for $675 with 4-PW thanks to my local range owner. But I want to try the new Ping G700 before I make my final choice. Gotta say I love the look of the new G700’s. Price for 4-UW is $1199. Damn!!!

Biggest thing, are the G400's fit to you? If they are, and you like them, and they perform well, that's a good buy. But I'd go with whatever fits and performs best.

I’ve always been standard with Ping in the past. The ones that are being sold to me are off the shelf. Not demo models but anyone can walk in and hit them on the range. I need to not be cheap and probably should just go into the Golf Exchange or Golf Galaxy and get a fitting. Didn’t want to go over $1000 but if the G700 play out as good as they look I’ll plunge. My heart says TM M4’s but I’m just hesitant since I’ve been a Ping man for so long.

Regardless of which clubs you get, get fitted. I've been playing for about 20 years now and always played stock clubs. I was a 6.2 handicap. I got fitted with my next set and the difference was amazing. It was a small tweak and I knew it before he told me (I told him I thought I needed 2 degrees upright on the irons) and he laughed. I was dead on. And now my ball striking is awesome. The divots are uniform, crisp, clean, dollar bills (h/t Tin Cup). Even if you spend $50 on clubs, do what you can to get fitted by a pro. I can't recommend it enough.

The ground is so saturated here and the rain keeps falling.

I figure I'll be able to play come June.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
