I had similar issues around the green. I made a change in approach to those shots about a year ago where I use my PW (46 degrees) and treat it like a putt. I keep my wrists stiff and take a stroke like I was going to putt it from that distance. The ball pops up nicely and carries onto the green then usually releases very well toward the hole. Feel free to try this out

With my PW (45) it's roughly(on flat green) 1/3 in air and 2/3 roll. When I use my 60 it's about 2/3 air 1/3 roll...
So it's a fun time or picking what/when.Joshua:

I hit a pretty awesome shot today. Was about 180 or so out and the green was surrounded by water. The wind was at my back so I tried to go for it. Grabbed my 5 iron and went right at. Hit it short but it skipped twice on the pond and landed on the green hahaComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
On another note, I played a bit today. Got on by myself and tee'd off at 11:47. Cruised through the first 3 holes at +1 then got caught behind a foursome of hackers and drinkers and it took over 3 and a half hours to finish the front 9. It completely killed my rhythm and I ended up not playing well at all after a good start. I only played 13 holes before I called it quits after over 4 and a half hours. I told the marshall repeatedly that something needed to be done about that group but he never said anything to them apparently. Very frustrating.Last edited by Jr.; 06-11-2012, 07:38 PM.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Gotta love those, haha. I hit a lucky shot like that out of some mulch around the green once when I first started playing. I hit the ball way too hard, but the flag was out because of the wind and my ball caught in it and dropped about 6 inches from the hole.

Don't quit in the middle of a round - what is the main saying on the course - you know it - "better on the course than in the office". You never know you could've just cheated yourself from getting a hole in one or something that will stick with you.Comment

Well, got out for league tonight. Winds were steady at 25, gusting to 40. Let's just say it didn't go well.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Anybody have experience with these irons or Callaway irons in general? My handicap is around 14, not sure if these irons are for me. I want to stick with Callaway, but I don't want to break the bank.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
4 1/2 is not that bad where I'm at. 5 hours for a full 18 is a good day. Today's was exceptional at 4 hours flat for 18. The guys I played with played ready golf very quickly, it was a blast.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I'm taking the plunge today. Getting a Taylor Made Rocketballz 3 wood and Titleist AP1 irons 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, Gap, and 56 degree vokey wedge.
My bag will then contain a Titleist 910 D2 driver, Bobby Jones 3 Hybrid, 4 & 5 cleveland hybrids and my old school Ping blade putter. Oh yeah, I will be keeping my Taylor Made RAC 3 iron for all of the punches out from under trees or between trees or wherever else I have to get out trouble and need a low punch shot. I use that club more than I should, lol.PSN: Koolie_G

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Wow, I'm used to playing 18 in about 3 and a half tops. Normally, I would've stayed out, but I was just exhausted and I could tell it was affecting my play on the last couple of holes. I wasn't able to concentrate on my shots and lost 2 balls on the last 2 holes. I figured I would rather just head home than try to gut out 4 more holes of bad golf when I really didn't want to be out there anymore.
If I'm out there and I'm just not enjoying myself, I won't finish a round for the sake of finishing a round anymore. And being stuck behind a slow group that won't let me playthrough is one of the quickest ways for me to just not have fun with it. It gets me out of any rhythm, I start playing poorly, and I get frustrated because I have so much time between shots that I end up dwelling on bad shots too much. Golf is a ton of fun, but not when it's like that.Comment

Good luck with the purchase, you're going to have a solid set of clubs for years to come.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played my 4th ever round of golf last weekend and shot a 123. I was terrible the first 4-5 holes but then actually played pretty well (to my standards anyway).
Holed out two chip shots from a considerable distance, including one on 17 for my first ever par!Ryan Spencer

That's pretty darn good for your fourth round ever. I took many more shots my fourth time out.Comment

I need to practice putting, that could really help my score as I have been three-putting from not very far out too many times.Ryan Spencer
