Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I've bought a lot of clubs off of eBay. You just have to find the right places to buy from. 3ballsgolf, carlsgolfland, 2ndswing, tigersgolfemporium, etc are a few places I've bought clubs from and have never had an issue.Last edited by SinisterAlex; 03-04-2014, 10:07 PM.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

I agree completely, but if you're someone starting out it's a good route to go to get basic gear without breaking the bank.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Unless you are a scratch golfer, or have the money to spend, buying on eBay can be great as long as it is from a certified seller, beware of fakes. For me, buying brand new irons is pointless as used irons can be just as nice and saves me a ton of money plus I am not good enough to "need" brand new clubs. I understand why people do, but for me and my skill level, I am just fine with used equipment.
EDIT:: Re-read your statement, I HIGHLY recommend you go get a nice used set. Irons are excellent used and most are in excellent shape. If you are tight on money, buying new is not the way to go. Been using my used set for 2 years now and just as good as I bought them. Probably will upgrade next year, but won't be a new set.
Also wanted to add I am a mid 70s 80s shooter. This will be my 4th year playing, just saying that to show you don't need new equipment to shoot decent.Last edited by TheBleedingRed21; 03-04-2014, 11:59 PM.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Agree with both of you. Just adding another opinion to the discussion. If money it tight or you don't think the technology changes are worth it then don't. I just know that with my new 714s I am hitting my 9 iron as far as I was hitting my 7 iron with my Ping G10s.Moderator

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Question on that Rob, are your new clubs lighter, leading to a faster swing, smoother swing?? Maybe I do not understand, but seems weird a club would make THAT big of a difference if they are similar in weight, etc. I could see maybe a club up but not two. (My brother bought $1400 mizunos over his old $1000 set and he seemed to hit better (he already shoots below par quite often) but nothing major)
Keep in mind, I have only had two iron sets, a beginner top flight (UGH) and my R7s (Yes, I know they are old but I love them), so I did notice quite a difference but nothing like that. Just accuracy and slight upgrade in power. Not saying I don't believe you, just asking haha.Comment

Actually they are heavier. My swing speed stayed the same 95-98 MPH range. But my ball speed went from 111 to 125 mph.
I read somewhere that that equates to 3 yards per MPH of ball speed.
IMO the fitting is why matters most. He gave me the heavier shafts, an had me using midsize grips which helped me not over grip the club.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I bought my 712 AP2's practically brand new for 450$. Bought my 910F fairway woods for 60$ a piece and just bought a 910D2 9.5 driver for 75$ off ebay. There are a lot of other deals I've wanted to jump in on like iron sets, wedges, putters but I've been holding off the ho in me for the most part. There are deals to be had, you just have to know where to look and be in the right place at the right time.
Like I've mentioned before pages back, I've been lucky to be standard everything but I've always been curious if I have the right shafts. I swing my 8 iron around 90MPH on average (I have photo proof :P). One thing I've noticed as of late is alot of missed shots to the right lately as I changed my posture. Been wondering if I changed my lie angle by doing so. I've been wanting to go and do another fitting to see if any of my numbers and such have changed.Last edited by SinisterAlex; 03-05-2014, 01:08 AM.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

Rob. I never knew all that changed! Haha. I just went with it.
If funds are good next tax year I will look into it as I plan on buying a new set and wife is on the verge of saying yes.Comment

My miss is the same as well, I don't know if it's fatigue or what but late in the season every year I seem to develop a push and lose a lot of distance. My back usually starts tightening up late in the season too.
@WazzuRC Another good place to look for nice used clubs is GlobalGolf.com, I've bought drivers and woods from them and they are always in great shape.
A way to get some new clubs cheap is to get an idea of when a new model is coming out as the previous models usually get a huge price cut. A lot of places will throw in a free fitting with the purchase of your clubs as well.Texas Rangers/Saints/LSU/Tottenham Hotspur

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
So tired of this weather. Renditions is having a "Shamrock Shootout" and I got my friends and I signed up for it, but the weather isn't cooperating. Its on the 14th at 9 am, we are suppose to get snow again on the 12th and its gonna be only a high of 40 on the 14th. So we might bail. Nothing like teeing of in 20 degree weather to take the fun right out of it.Moderator

If weather doesn't ruin that it would be awesome. That is where my bachelor party started. Great course and they take great care of it. Love reading the history markers at the start of each hole and see which big PGA hole it's replicating.Texas A&M Aggies
