If your system is connected to the internet, it's already checking in even when in the low power state. You don't have to wait for anything. You'd be good to go right after your long day of work so long as that happens. Even if you don't leave it on (i.e. unplug it), it just checks in as soon as you connect to the internet. No hassle.

It's a passive process (or at least that's the reasonable assumption most of us have). The only thing that would make it a manual process is if you had to string out a network cable to it every day for it to connect.

In other words, it should be fairly transparent and you only notice it if it says something was updated (the same process is touted to keep your games up to date) or if it doesn't work and says you need to connect again in order to play any of your games. If you're always connected it should just kinda happen without deliberate prompting.

As long as your XboxONE is plugged in and connected to the internet it will automatically do the checks without you having to interact with it because when you are not using your XO it will be in low power/stand by mode enabling it to download updates and do the authentications checks without you even knowing.

This post is precisely why Microsoft needs to better explain themselves.

It doesn't matter how long you go without "checking in". You could go a year without turning it on. Once you turn on the console after a year of not playing, you will need to have an internet connection with your X1 in order to play a game. At that point, the X1 performs the check in. Basically if you have your console connected to the internet you don't ever have to do anything different from what you do now.

I don't know which way to go with my response. Lol. I would just assume most people understand this process. Then i think of people like my parents who would have trouble with just turning on the console. I'm not sure which category you fall in, but yes, if it's connected to WI-FI, then you have no worries.

What most people are upset about is if for some reason their internet stops working for more than 24 hours then they wouldn't be able to play.

Right, its understandable.Only other reason thats stopping me from just committing to X1 is the used games.I sell my games on ebay and get majority of the money back.I dont know about that haha

As long as you bought the game new, you can still do that. It can be traded in/sold to someone else once.

I seem to remember there was talk about being able to sell the digital rights to your games to people online thru your console but i could be wrong about that.

That was a rumor, nothing lately or concrete about that. You can only gift your license to people who have been on your friends list for 30 days though, making ebay sales difficult if not impossible/horribly inefficient. Used game stuff really can only be done with participating retailers that have access to clean the license (remove it from an account and create a new one for resale)

Ahh, yes i remember that now. So a store like Gamestop wipes your license clean when they scan it. Yea, Ebay wouldn't work then. Thanks for correcting me.

The other post is from an anonymous Xbox One developer who tells it the way it is. Describing it like this " Honestly, if you care about anything other then pure games AT ALL. Xbox 1 > PS4. If all you do is play games, and nothing else, PS4."

                          https://www.neowin.net/news/anonymou...one-intentions

Although they still have some uncertainty themselves, I feel a lot more comfortable in my preorder of the Xbox One.
If that second link is true MS should have had that guy speak at the presser. He is a much better salesman. Lol
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Seriously. Everything he said actually makes pretty good sense. And as I said before, if the Steam thing came to fruition, I'd definitely be all over this thing as soon as it happens.

They do need to revisit the 24 hours though. Just not enough time. 72-120 is the sweet spot for those checks imo. Or, hopefully they could invest in a way to have Smartglass check that you have/haven't sold anything. That would be even better than extending the hours.

Why isn't it enough time? It's not like you have to do anything as long as you keep it connected.
