    Re: Xbox One

I'm with you guys. I'm beginning to love the all digital format. I love not having to look for the disc, change it, etc, etc. Just hop right into whatever I want. I have a mix of digital and physical. It's frustrating when I have to get up and get that disc, but damn... that sure makes me seem like a lazy waste of space when I write it out here. lol

My problem, and I'm sure this is similar for many others. I'm in a rural area. Well, I'm not really, I'm in a town, in a sub division, so you'd think high speed would be available to me, but the best connection I can get due to old infrastructure (in a new, 3 year old subdivision, imagine that...) is a 5mpbs connection. So, that severely limits my ability to go digital. Heck, even my old house in the city (about 300k population) in a sub-division again I could only get 5mbps. It's terrible...

I was late to the party on pre-ordering Forza horizon 3. I ended up wanting the ultimate edition (or whatever the top one was called) but I was too late. So I cancelled my regular edition pre-order at the store, and went digital. My god... that 45gb or so download seemed like an absolute eternity for me.

Hopefully neither Sony or MS has that thought process again of going all digital. I understand wanting to push it, but I think you've still got to give the consumer the option until everyone has the ability to access the digital content with high enough speeds to make it reasonable.

That's a good point...lately I rarely "need" to play immediately, so my game installs on the living room Xbox automatically and is done by the time i'd play. I can then either bring my external HD upstairs or just let it download there too later if I'm lazy. I get games so rarely now (especially given I have too much to play) that it's not a big deal.

I know guys still like to trade their games in, but man I could never go back to buying another single disk ever again, the freedom of jumping in and out of games without touching the system is the best thing in a long time.

That is really the only reason I buy my main titles digitally. I know I will switch back and forth. But for games I am unsure if I'll buy disk to at least give me trade in option later.

I'm still part of the percentage that prefers physical mainly so I can trade the games back in simply because im not a collector. And if I do buy digital, it has to be at a very good price and one of my best/favorite games. Excluding Indies/PSN/XBLA games, I only have three digital games. TLOUR, The Witcher III with the expansion pass and The Division with the expansion pass. Total for all three and expansions were $94. Easily getting my money's worth with all three. But I have no interest in buying games digitally on release day. Just way too much money and way too much of a risk since I like taking chances on games.

That's typically how I do it too. If it's a game I know I'm going to pay for a long, long time, I'll buy it digital, and pre-order so it pre-loads since it can take me over a day to download. Exactly what I did with FH3, and Madden this year. Madden, I normally buy the disc because I trade it when its about to hit the EA vault then I keep playing it. All EA sports titles I buy, I do this.

The division I bought on disc because I wasn't sure I'd like it. I wish I'd gone digital given the amount of time Ive put into it. Ghost recon wildlands, I'm weighing that one in my head right now. Open beta this week will tell me. I didnt get enough time in the closed beta to decide.

I still try and buy the discs though when I can simply because I can trade it in later, or because it just takes too long for me to download. I do prefer the digital route though for it's ease of use, and whenever I get around to adding that second XB1 to the house I'll want it even more. I don't see my internet situation changing anytime soon though

Exactly typically sports games become outdated in a years time, so I will buy the physical copy so I can trade in towards the next years version.

Ho-hum month for a change for Games with Gold (image below)

re: digital discussion, I still buy Madden digital for the convenience. Don't really care that it goes to EA Access, I eat the opportunity cost for being able to easily play it on either console and stream it to my PC from whichever is not being used w/out managing physical media.

EA Access then gets me 10 hour trials of the balance of sports titles, if I ever run out of time I'll weigh my options, but I haven't yet. Usually just want to tinker with their superstar modes a little bit but then gaming ADD takes me elsewhere.

I'll check out evolve. Borderlands 2 is amazing but I'm guessing most people who want that have it already.

Those games don't really thrill me at all. Layers of Fear sounded meh, Borderlands 2 would be fun but not gonna waste time right now on such a old game. Evolve was a cool concept, but not going to waste time on a pretty much dead online game.

Are you kidding me??? $50 for a digital copy of Evolve which is two years old and sucks. That's why I don't go digital. Disc version is $10 max new. Sorry but until digital gets cheaper and by cheaper, I mean at least half price, I'll stay with physical.

Ultimate Edition is ~$19 new. But free with a live membership next month, so guess we're in luck. Keep on with the digital pricing fantasies though.

I actually agree with this. The deals you can find on the physical copies far outweigh the pricing of the digital, especially the older games. I also think though if they really want to push new sales to digital, they should be offering a lower price point, especially since they're saving the expense of the disc and packaging, shipping, etc, etc.

Of course though, doing that would hurt their retail partners, and I'm sure the industry wouldn't like that either, so similar pricing on releases remains and likely always will.

That being said though, some of the digital titles I do have that I didnt buy with a specific purpose (ex. knowing I'll play it for hours on end) I've bought because of some of the great deals that the XB store has had at times. So, I guess it works both ways too.
