    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

trobinson - you make all very valid points and I can't disagree with really anything you said. I guess my main point is consoles require little to no real effort, you buy and plug and (download) and play.

I'm just glad we have an alternative.

If I was single I'd probably be a bit more inclined to go the PC route to build a killer rig every few years but since that ship has sailed I guess that's a moot point.

A point to be made too is something brought up earlier, I've been doing PC gaming since the 80's and all the configuration and choices is great for some folks but for me, the choices that are there can become paralyzing for me LOL.

For example, I do have a local MicroCenter and jeesh, I can spend 5 hours in there and walk out with one thing...to buy a case is a process, to buy a video card is a process, to buy memory is a process...it's just the way I am, I analyze and research everything, and it makes building a PC a really mentally challenging process.

Does anyone here have an OLED TV that they use for their PS4 gaming??

Wish the streaming was more than 720p, that's a relatively small window on a 1080p ultrawide

Perhaps something that will be fixed on the PS4k if it happens. Start releasing some quality PS+ games and I'll be a sub again in no time.

This post basically sums up you are the factor making it more difficult than it truly is. I can throw you a complete build in under 30 min which will 1) Not break the bank 2) Will out perform consoles for years to come 3) Can be thrown together and all setup to play on, in an afternoon.

PC compatibility has changed a lot in just recent years. Its made very very simple now to throw a processor on a mother board, plug in video card, put 4 screws to hold power supply, attach all your power cables, and pop your motherboard into your case.

Its all very much plug and play now. Hell even installing windows 10 and getting all your drivers is simple as crap now. Now longer needing to search web page after webpage for drivers.

All in all a console is a limited PC. You are paying a premium on a device which will do less, cost more, and has no upgrading options (speed & graphic wise). Sure its slightly more simple to setup. Pull it out the box, attach power and video, boom its working. Yet my point is, if you took an extra hour or two from PLAYING A GAME ON PS4 and using that time to throw a decent PC together, you will get better performance, more options, better priced games, and the ability to do small upgrades if you choose.

Anyway, I don't want to make this a PS4 vs PC debate, thats not what I intended. I just wanted to clear the air that PC is not some money pit & requires a master's to put one together.

We've been using VUE for two weeks or so now. Its absolutely fantastic in every way. Streams live tv perfectly, is very easy to operate, excellent channel list for a great price, and even features cloud based DVR.

My only compliant so far has been the guide. Who in their right mind thought a vertical guide was a good idea. Every service out there has used a horizontal guide and it has worked great, why change this?!?! Fix the guide Sony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the good news it it works on devices as cheap as the Amazon Fire Stick ($35). If you have an iPad you can also use a Chromecast (also $35) to cast it to a TV.

Or you could just watch it on your Ipad. I'm hoping they add Android Tablet and Iphone/Android Phone support soon as well. I don't usually like watching on tiny phone screens but I like having the option.

I kinda like the vertical guide, you can easily see what's coming up. It's pretty much the same thing you just scroll right instead of down.

Like the others have said, I highly recommend PS Vue. Very slick service and has been almost flawless over the last month. I had an ala carte subscription while it was in beta, but have since moved over to the Elite package. I have an antenna for local stations, so that is covered. Everything is tied-in very well to the PS infrastructure... (which YMMV depending on how you feel about their UI.)

As for devices, a Amazon Fire Stick ($25) is probably best for you, since they're very portable. That way you don't need to go out and buy consoles as cable boxes. There is also iOS compatibility as well, I believe. Unfortunately, nothing with Android, yet.

For one-stop shopping, it definitely works. I haven't turned my XB1 on since I got Vue. Actually, I did turn it on to install the March update.

When I went to buy my latest tv, I went with the intention to buy the LG OLED tv, however they only had a 65 inch and the next size up was 88 inches and I cost over $25000. OLED is incredible especially how slim they are.

                              Appear Offline

On your Profile tab, Quick Menu and login screen, we’ve added a new option called ‘Online Status.’ From here, you can choose to ‘Appear Offline.’ This could be useful if, for example, you want to fully concentrate on your game or watch a movie without interruption. You will remain ‘offline’ until you chose to change your setting. Don’t forget to turn it back on to fully experience your PS4.

                              Friend Online Notification

Now you can choose to get notified when your friends come online. To receive notifications, access your Friends profile, press Options, and select ‘Notify When Online.’ For quick management of your entire Friends list choose to ‘Select All’ or ‘Deselect All’ of your friends via Settings > Notifications.

                              User Scheduled Event

On the Events tab, we’re adding the ability to schedule gameplay sessions with your friends. Just select ‘Create Event,’ and you’ll be able to make an invitation for an upcoming gameplay session. Choose the day, time, game, and send it to individual friends or a Group. When your event starts, users who registered will automatically be added to a Party so you can start playing right away.

You can also share an event to a Community. Once shared, the event will be posted to the Community wall and members can register from there.

User Scheduled Events can also be created in the PS App.

                              Play Together

This feature allows all members of a Party to see what each person is playing so that you can easily join a friend’s game, or start a new game together.

System software update 3.50 for the PlayStation App is also out tomorrow. This update offers PS App users some of the same great new features outlined above. Enjoy PS4 and PlayStation experience more easily and more conveniently, anytime, anywhere.

                              PS App main additional features
                              User Scheduled Event.
Users can schedule gameplay sessions with your friends.
Dailymotion has been added to Live from PlayStation.
Other players’ shared activities appear in your activities.
That’s a look at some of the big additions in this update. Of course, there are lots of other refinements and improvements to the system software overall. Download it tomorrow, and enjoy!

Only thing that sucks here is that there is no bluetooth or wireless for the controller. Now using my IMac is different. Wasn't expecting that...

Gonna buy a ps4 at some point. Mainly for single player experiences. It's what I did last gen (360 for multiplayer, PS3 for single player)

Should I wait ya think? Money isn't really an issue right now, but if these rumors are true of this dumb ps4.5 then I'm thinking I should wait
