This is correct. The biggest reasons in purchasing a PS4 Pro is if you have a 4k/HDR TV or investing in PS VR. This is the reason why they're putting out this premium upgrade. HD TVs will barely notice any quality improvements.

I also feel that Scorpio will also cater to 4k/HDR and VR. I wouldn't be surprise if Oculus Rift 2 is released and HoloLens gains more marketing next year. This will fall in line with the mandate that Sony and Microsoft have said regarding games working on the existing as well as the premium. However, for premium owners of premium products like 4K TV output and Virtual Reality products, these systems will be noticeable.

These are your opinions. I don't think we can claim these as fact. I think, and maybe I am wrong, that it is way too early to say there won't be substantial, or noticeable, improvements on 1080p displays at any point during the remaining cycle.

Also, what is ""not worth it" for you might be "well worth it" for someone else.

As far as what ODogg was saying, I was thinking along the lines of how Xbox S offers slight FPS stability improvement over base Xbox One. I know it is just a few frames here or there, but couldn't the Pro do the same thing. Maybe not up the FPS, but lower the amount of dips from 30 FPS on base games?

      Edit:

I wanna be clear that I don't want to sit here and say that the PS4 Pro is gonna blow anyone away, for sure, one hundred percent of the time, on 1080p displays but the SATA3 hard drive speed boost by itself is enough to warrant the purchase for me, not even mentioning the quality/fidelity improvements I expect to see down the road on the Pro as well. But that is just me. I don't think anyone should be blamed for not purchasing, or for purchasing.

      Edit 2:

Also, I know I come off as super fanboy-ish when I post stuff like this, and I apologize for that. You guys are both right about 4k/HDR displays benefiting THE MOST from Pro. I think that's fair and true, however I think for guys who don't mind spending the money there are some good reasons for 1080p'ers to make the upgrade as well.

Regarding PS4 Pro, I'll use Rise of the Tomb Raider as an example. It has three different options that you can choose from when starting the game if you have a PS4 Pro. This is what im hoping for from the majority of games.

One thing is for sure, if developers/publishers don't take advantage of the Pro then to be perfectly honest, it will turn out to be a total and complete waste of a console and simply, not needed and no reason for it's existence.

I'm sure I'll still get a Pro, but my excitement has went way down for it. I guess I was in the camp that thought all games would get an immediate boost, but hearing Cerny say that patches would be needed for games, VR games, etc to take advantage soured me some. I don't own a 4K tv and won't anytime soon. I'm just not sure the Pro is a $400 upgrade for me when my launch PS4 still is doing great.

But like I said, I love new tech and I'm sure I'll still cave on it 11/10, if not for anything else, the stupidest reason...the rear USB port to plug the VR breakout box into. LOL Right now, that's my biggest selling feature of the system.

I thought the games would be actual 4K resolution and wondered how the heck they would have the power, this makes sense though now.

I'll be getting one for sure but after my launch PS4 bites the dust. Maybe.l by then I'll have a 4K TV and can enjoy the full use of it.

MLB The Show will be one of the games to use the most out of it hopefully so new more choppy cutscenes.

I got a 4K TV not too long ago. Still deciding on getting a Pro, though. Hopefully I can wait until the Spring. I want to see how many games truly take advantage of it.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. Had it pre-ordered, and decided to cancel it after reading more. Obviously, first party games will support it, but I'm curious to see how many third party games support the Pro.

I'm not sure why you guys are thinking that just having a Sata3 hard drive is going to make that big of difference. While it is technically better, my understanding is that SATA3 is more of a protocol/bandwidth measurement. I do high end video editing and I think the difference between sata2 and sta3 is sata2 has a 300MBps bandwidth and sata3 has 600MBps bandwidth. I know there are a few SSDs that can almost saturate this but the 5400RPM drive is not even going to come close. So if you are using the default drive (or even a 7200RPM drive you add in) you are not going to see a performance increase over a sata2 drive.

I was under the impression that it was deemed that SSDs in the PS4 did not have the performance increase people expected. Has this changed?

Also....have we gotten 100% confirmation that we will see absolutely no increase in performance on standard non patched ps4 games? That will stink. I know I was really hoping it could smooth out some games that get choppy sometimes. Sony literally has to force the PS4 Pro to disable GPU cores and back down the 33% increase in CPU to accomplish this.

I assume internal HDD like the SSD will perform better on the Pro over the stock PS4 and non patched ps4 games will be just like they are on stock PS4 because the Pro has 2 gpus and they turn one off which is the higher end GPU when there is no patch on said game. You will not get increase performance unless the dev patches a pro mode

This is not the case on the XB S because they just overclocked the GPU that applies to all games but only really benefits games that have dynamic rez
