I would say there's more "new school" gamers than "old school" gamers right now. I think the market is huge for VR. I also think 4K is just gonna be the "new normal" in the not too distant future.

It's the new normal in my house. I love watching the Jays, Leafs and Raptors in 4K. Hopefully, the NFL will get their act together a jump on the 4K train.

I also bought my first 2 ultra 4K blurays.

4K is great, I can't image what 8K is like.

Any graphics difference on Madden on a 4k TV while playing on the S?

I am wondering the same thing. I know it won't make the graphics any better, but will it look better is what I'm wondering. If that makes any sense.

I didn't notice any difference. My tv does a great job upscaling stuff so maybe that's why.

This is what I have been saying for quite some time, I know some guys will argue with me, but with 4k your going to get better colors and and clarity.



I dont think this entire 4K movement i going to be ad huge as people think. I have my slim and it still looks great.



I still think the hole 4k is hype man. That's my opinion, nobody has to agree.

I disagree with you. 4K native content can be jaw dropping. Even the 4K YouTube videos look amazing. 4K isn't just hype it's going to become the norm.

if you use game mode then the tv disables the upscaler

If you are using the slim then the tv still disables in game mode but if not in game mode it will not use the scaler because the xbox is outputting 4K and doing the upscaling

If you are using the slim then the tv still disables in game mode but if not in game mode it will not use the scaler because the xbox is outputting 4K and doing the upscaling

Tried in both game mode and not and I noticed zero difference this morning. And, I have to do research on what you just said because on my tv the picture looks exactly the same in and out of game mode and trust me I'm one of those guys that notices everything.

you not going to notice much if anything because is upscaling and not native.

When you turn game mode on the tv disables all processors to lower latency. That is why it says in the manual the picture might be degraded a bit.

If you tried it with game mode off then the tv will be upscaling because all processors are turned back on. (This is speaking on the regular xbox one)

In the Slim if you output in 4K then the tv does not upscale because the xbox is sending a 4K image to the tv. Not a native 4K image but an upscale image from the xbox slim upscaler.

end of the day it will look the same because an upscale picture usually is more noticeable in SD images

Picked up X1S today and the XB says my tv supports 4K, but when I go into my Directv menu settings is says 4K not supported.

When I plug directly from 4K tv to genie box is in the DTv menu it says it is supported.

Any help?

My Sony 4K definitely does not disable the 'God Tier' XCA8-4K scaler chip in 'game mode', and I am very thankful it doesn't. Makes the PS4 or other 1080p content look 'native', actually better than a 1080p set due to pixel density alone.

I also get full color/gamut/contrast features as well. It disables all that other unnecessary 'cinemotion', 'motionflow', 'dynamic contrast', etc., I don't need.

Hell, I seen Videophiles swear by calibrating your set for all TV viewing in 'game mode' on modern TVs, since you no longer lose color/contrast on most quality sets, and all the other added processing stuff is considered 'unnatural'.

I enjoy the 'soap opera' effect sometimes so I leave 'standard' on for the streaming apps.

OK so I reached out to my calibrator and asked if the upscaler is turned off on the 4K set

his quote below

" The 4K tv still upscales anything lower then the native display resolution even in game mode. You do lose picture enhancements and critical picture enhancements in game mode but lower the input delay."

" The tv you have has a good upscaler but when dealing with consoles they do not offer 4K content in terms of games therefore a system like the xbone one will upscale their sub 1080p games and send the upscaled image to the tv which then upscales to the native screen resolution of 4k"

" This comes at the cost of sampling twice which is not ideal so if a game is native 1080p on the xbox one then the xb1 does not need to upscale and the tv does it"


I then asked if outputting in 4K from xb slim is a good idea and he said that it is because your xbox one has a good upscaler as well from what he has heard and it allows the tv to not have to upscale anything since it is being fed 4K output which in general is better for latency"

Last thing he noted


" In newers tv's like the last 3 years the tvs of the higher spectrum have excellent upscalers and do a good job but you always want the source that it is coming from to have the matching resolution when outputting to the tv, so always make sure you output in 4K from xbox one slim or any console that offers it"

So I stand corrected.

So... He's saying it's good that to let your game system upscale right ?

I notice a difference in picture quality between game mode on or off . I rather just leave it off. Maybe when I get an actual 4K console I'll turn it on more .

I turned off game mode as well and haven't had issues so far. The only game it will likely make a difference on would be The Show, so we will see.
