ETA - Wait are you talking about "being mad that someone has nicer stuff"? That's the only thing that I can think of, but that you would make that logical(?) connection seems like too far of a stretch to remotely consider. The average life span of a console has been around 6-7 years. Imagine trying to make fun of someone for buying a product that's supposed to last 7 years who then gets upset when their product becomes obsolete in year 4 and if you want to catch up then you have to pay a 75% premium on top of what you paid 4 years ago. (which also as previously stated, was not the primary focus of my criticism anyway).

Honestly I would be all over this if it came out when the vanilla PS5 dropped. But now I’ve built my PC and next gen game are coming to Pc it’s not much as a priority. If PC gets College Football next year it’ll be even less of a need until GTA 6 comes out. I’ll probably end up getting it at launch because I’m a sucker for new tech but i’m not jumping and down like I was with the PS4 Pro

Point being, there's going to always now be a premium technology that's going to be better and more expensive. Complaining is complaining. Pick a product when there's an opportunity for upgrading, especially in a changing tech environment. Put yourself as the corporate marketing executive and ask yourself the question, should we sit back and just watch?

If it ends up only being 30 fps vs 60fps or 4k vs 1080p. That's fine. It's also not what I was referring to in my original post, but maybe that didn't come across. I am specifically talking about future ps5 games which may not be optimized for the PS5. I don't 100% remember if that happened on the PS4 Pro vs. Vanilla, but I thought I remembered some cases. ie: that $400 or $500 PS5 purchase we made years ago no longer delivers on its promise of a full console generation.

I apologize too. I thought that new technology spooked you and you really shouldn't worry about this generation. These premium consoles are for geeks that want it more. I get it that this gen has been disappointing as well as eye-revealing with many new news that's comes out. $30 for a stand? Lol, yes I'm pissed, but I get it. Sony is now trying to find new ways to stay profitable in their changing environment. I still have that offer to test our systems!

As someone that owned the PS4 Pro, I’ll wait to see how this plays out. I have my doubts that developers will actually utilize the new hardware.

I have zero interest in a PS5 Pro, but I don't blame anyone for choosing an expensive console like this over a PC for gaming. Even if the specs-per-dollar equation favors the PC. You avoid the pain of Windows, and it's as plug-and-play as you can get. There's value in simplifying things, even if it comes at the expense of customization.

If you have the money and want a Pro then go for it! I don’t see the value right now (for me). I need to see real improvement more than 4K and 60 FPS. No disc sucks. I still get some disc deals once in awhile.

The exciting thing here is that Linneman suspects the PS5 Pro may be surpassing the original PS5’s fidelity mode – despite running at double the frame rate. “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does seem to exhibit superior image quality compared to PS5's regular quality mode while running at 60fps on the Pro,” he said. “They seem to be leveraging PSSR which looks a lot better than the generic upscaling they previously used.”

Has anyone here bought a replacement joystick part from Amazon (or wherever) and tried to fix their DualSense drifting problem? I think I have it isolated to a single wiper disc, but I need a replacement and I'm always a little nervous about buying these things on Amazon that come from who-knows-where.

Anyway, thought I'd ask and see if anyone's done it. I hate Sony products...going back to the first Sony AV receiver I bought in the 1980's, every single Sony item I've ever bought has broken prematurely or had QA issues.

The Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster has been rated. So, i would expect a State of Play within next couple weeks.

But, the Remaster phase needs to die down, especially for games that still hold up very well. That, TLOU 2 Remaster, Death Stranding and GoT Definitive Edition. The Uncharted Legacy of Theives Remaster wasn't necessary. I remember playing Uncharted 4 on the PS5 when it first was on the PS Plus Collection and remembering how well it looked. It just feels like a cash grab. I rather those resources go to new titles or IP. If they are going to Remaster games, go for the PS3/early PS4 titles that aren't easily accessible. MGS 4, Uncharted Drake Collection, Resistance, Infamous, etc

Agree, especially if they're trying to make a use-case for the PS5 Pro. As it is now, the Pro is just a really expensive way to play PS4 games.

Most of the improvements are really only noticeable if you see the 'old' version and the improved versions side-by-side anyway. It's not like I ever thought Horizon Zero Dawn or FF7 Remake looked 'bad' at any point when I played them originally. They were both fine at the time and still are - some improved textures or sharpness is nice, but not particularly noticeable unless you were to run them simultaneously side-by-side.

Yeah, I can think of maybe one game that I would want to see remastered, from around 2008 era, but I know that's just me chasing nostalgia. I can still play it now and enjoy it. The problem is they are cheaper to "produce" because you don't have to pay for new writing or any kind of art design. Finding that sweet spot between games that are too recent (like you mentioned) which feel totally unnecessary, and games that are too old to really do much with.

The Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster falls into the latter. They did a good job of preserving it and not altering the things people loved and remembered, but then you basically just end up with a slightly smoother/shinier 1995 era game that fits on modern TVs better. Not much else.

And as much as people complain about remasters, whenever someone asks "what would you like to see remastered," there are always a million responses.

I have been pounding the table for a MGS 4 remaster for a very long time. If Rockstar was like Sony, we would've been had a RDR2 remaster. But, i agree it's to mainly to play PS4 games.

I do see a lot of folks not wanting remasters, but have a remaster wishlist. I'm more of a no more cash grab remasters. It feels like they're saying "here's a popular recent title that already looks great, lets remaster/remake it because it'll sell well". Like I said, I rather see PS3/early PS4 titles. I guess they feel those titles might be a bigger risk than recent blockbusters. But I feel if the bigger risks are a hit, it will attract gamers to other titles and even show there’s an audience for new releases. I enjoyed the Saints Row 3 remaster. It was a good remaster, so I also did a Saints Row 4 playthrough.
