I think it was CNet, but some site called his LG 30" the best 30" HDTV on the market, I could be wrong, but I know I read it somewhere. There's differences from your LCD, for example, CRT's are 1080i native, while LCD's are 720p native. If that means nothing to you, and you can deal with the size of a CRT, I would say go CRT, especially if you do a lot of gaming on it.

I have decent knowledge of the whole 720p/1080i issue. I know that 360's native resolution will be 720p. So i'm assuming 360 will upconvert it to 1080i and then the crt will be able to display the images. Is there a big difference in gaming from 720p to 1080i. I know the whole "native resolution" thing means something, but how much of a difference is it.

I would be getting the CRT to improve my picture quality. I'm just not completely impressed with the LCD pic quality. Yes it's a big tv that is lightweight and takes up little space, but I feel that the CRT picture quality is still second to none.

The 30 in panny that i'm looking at doesn't even take 720p input so the conversion must be done before it hits the tv (most cable boxes are capable of doing this so i'm not worried about cable). I just can't take the ghosting issues i've seen on my lcd as well as the lag when using the controller. Could this possible be due to the 480p conversion to my 720p tv? Any chance the lag could be gone when playing 360 on my lcd?

Now I'm looking at the 30 inch Panasonic. The model is CT-30WX15.

Anyone out there have this? Any comments about it?

With the lag you are seeing, I have no idea if the 360 will be differnet. I would suggest waiting till you play the 360 on it before you do anything. I've seen the 360 running on the 23" Samsung LCD and it's stunning. I would buy FF's LG before the Panny you saw, if you are looking for a CRT. I'm a CRT fan, I actually like the way 1080i looks natively over 720p. In my mind, and this is just my opinion, I prefer having 1080i native and having 720p upscaled to it, rather than having 720p native and 1080i downsacled to it. That's just me, I've always been a CRT person, I could have bought a much bigger tv than the 2K I spent on my 34" CRT, but I wanted what I wanted, and most still call my tv the reference HDTV on the market. It's all personal opinion. As I've said before, HDTV looks great no matter what. But I believe, as do others that CRT is really the best option for gaming.

The Panny has received a lot of good reviews on the avs forum. Do you feel that it's not a good purchase? How about compared to the Sony 30 in?

the panny is 650 and the sony is 799

i never thought panasonic was a great tv brand but after reading reviews it seems like it is highly regarded

I've been looking at that one too. If I can get it for 899, I think it would be silly to pass it up. I need to get some opinions on it first though.

I talked to the guy at Sears today about it. I told him a little birdie let me know that set was going to be 899 (its currently on sale there at 1699.00). He pulled me aside and told me that its true, and its a sweet deal. He said that they pricematch themselves +10%, so if we buy it now, we can get the difference back, plus an extra 60 bucks on the day after Thanksgiving. He also said that the only real issue he has with RPCRT's is the burn in, and he said that Sears' service plan covers the burn in for the life of the plan. And its got a replacement gurantee for 3 years 289.00

I don't think I can pass this up

I never even considered a Panny, but after reading the reviews and the $650 price tag its hard not to consider it. Do you think the Sony is a whole lot better (currently $799)?

I have a 37 in. Sharp Aquos (not the best for gaming), but I want a HD CRT for 360 so I'm trying to do the most research possible to get the best CRT out there in the 600-800 price range.

What are you playing on? And do you have any input about these models?

Im buying a 360 next week and am in the market for buying a HDTV by x-mas.

I usually like to stick with Sony as my brand but I am open to others as well.

Cash allowance- I would say I could afford anything up to $2000. Im looking for 30 to 36 inch.

Can anyone reccomend some models I could take a look at? Is LCD or CRT the best way to go at that price? This TV will be in my room and will be used for gaming and occasional TV watching... sports mainly. I have heard the CRT is better for gaming... however the LCD's can also be good as the price allowance increases. Can anyone shed some light or share some models? So many tv's and im very confused!

Also, my parents are in the market for larger TV for the downstairs living room (which I may also use for gaming if they get it)... probably around a 40 inch and anything up to $3000. Can anyone reccomend any models for that? This would also be used for gaming and the occasional tv watching.

34 inch for a little over 1k. Seems to have the 16-9 ratio and 1080i. I still am confused about the whole 720p/1080i thing. This tv only mentions 1080i and nothing about 720p.. is that okay and does this tv look like a good choice? It looks exactly like my 32' WEGA I have right now that isn't HDTV compatible and it has worked super.

Also... can anyone tell me the difference between the TV I just listed and this TV... which is a Sony WEGA. What is the difference between the tv I listed above (not WEGA) and a tv that is WEGA like this

New to the HDTV market, just looking around and I found a deal at Best Buy. It is $540 and comes with a TV, theater system/dvd player and a stand.

Just interested if anyone knows anything about the brand "Insignia." It is a Best Buy exclusive, so I am a little worried, but the TV is a 27" "flat tube HDTV monitor." Meaning I will be able to play HD 360 stuff with the components, right? I would just need to buy a digital receiver to get the HD television broadcasts? It says it is only a $400 TV which worries me compared to the prices of others I have looked at.

Insignia is Best Buy's new in-house brand (aka cheap stuff made by contract companies). I believe their TV's are made by Sharp Electronics. They just started pushing their Insignia line, very hard, in order to help keep the low-end customers (who can't afford name brand gear) that would otherwise buy that quality of electronics from Target, Walmart, K-Mart, etc... IMO, I would steer clear of it, or save up until you can afford quality electronics that might last more than a year.

No offense, but this level of consumer electronics is normally for the type of person that picks out their new DVD player while they came to the store to pick up some soda, bath towels and diapers for the kids.

They just started pushing their Insignia line, very hard, in order to help keep the low-end customers (who can't afford name brand gear) that would otherwise buy that quality of electronics from Target, Walmart, K-Mart, etc... IMO, I would steer clear of it, or save up until you can afford quality electronics that might last more than a year.

Haha, thank you. I am new to the high-end TV world, so I haven't heard of Insignia at all. I will definitely hold off and getter a better TV. Just didn't know what Insignia was at all, thought it was just another normal TV manufacturer.
