If you are down to those two, I would definitely choose the Panny. I would never buy a refurbished television, especially if it cost $500, but that's me. Phillips doesn't have the best rep, as far as HDTVs from a lot of folks over at avsforum either. I can't speak for their quality myself, but I do think Panasonic, for the most part, makes decent products. You will also only get a 90 day warranty with the Phillips and the Panasonic has a 1 year warranty. Of course, you can buy extended for either one. I don't think that you would need more than the 1 year from Panasonic anyway. If it's going to be a lemon, you would know it before a year, IMO. The same thing can't be said for most HDTVs, but I think you would be safe with this one.

Your best bet in getting HDTV recommendations would be to go to avsforum.com and do a search for the model number and read others opinions. It confuses the hell out of me sometimes but most of those guys seem to know their stuff.

As for me, I've decided on the model I want, but I think I'm going to wait until January to purchase it with hope I can get it at a better price before the Super Bowl and after the Christmas rush is over.

      I have this TV..

Samsung HL-R4266W 42" DLP HD-Ready Projection TV with Digital Cable
      Ready Tuner

and i'm trying to get my PIP to work. When I press PIP on my remote, I get a message " Not Available in external input !" Does anyone know what this means? Do I need another device or something for my PIP to work?

      Thanks.

Is there an input on the back of your TV for PIP?

Here is how the back of my TV looks, but I don't see an input for PIP, unless it's located under the component settings.

            Wayne,

How is your cable box connected to your TV? I think that if it's through component, svideo or HDMI, you have to splice the coax cable and connect the coax cable to the ant 1 input.

I have last years version of that TV and my cable box is connected by DVI (which the new models don't have) and I had to splice my coax cable to the ant 1 input to use the PIP feature.

You might also be able to do this with svideo. If your cable box is connected to your tv with component, but also has svideo, you might be able to connect both and set svideo as the PIP input on your TV.

I have Direct TV HD and it's connected through my component input.

You won't be able to do PIP with the TV then. If you had cable it would be possible or if you hook up an OTA antenna to it, you could pip the antenna.

I know with Sony, no clue on Sammy, but with Sony you cannot have 2 HD sources in PIP. I have to have normal TV in one window and HD in the other.

The 360 is HD and the Xbox was 480p, so you can't have your HD box on at the same time.

.... OK now that I got that out of the way. What if I just wanted to use the PIP feature just for viewing a football game on one screen, while watching a DVD movie or playing my xbox on the other screen? Will the PIP work for that? Or do I still need cable? And my other question(s) is, what is an OTA Antenna? And where can I get it?

                      Thanks..

OTA Antenna = Rabbit Ears ( like the old days)

They sell them at Radio Shack.

Same way with Samsung. Can't have 2 HD sources. PIP works great with Xbox, but I'm sure once I get a 360 I won't be able to.

Thanks for your help guys. Looks like i'm gonna have to get an OTA today and see if that will work. Now if I get the OTA, is there any special way to hook it up for PIP to work?
