    Re: Comic Book Fans....

Haven't picked up a book in a month due to work - how did Convergence go? I got up to #2 before I left. Wondering if I should go splurge for the rest or obtain them by other means.

AoU is a good read. Didn't finish it due to me trying to catch up on Batman but it was alright. I wish Marvel dove a bit deeper in their books, well the stories like that. I always get left for the need of wanting a bit more of the story. In Old Man Logan for example, I still want to know how that 50 Cent knockoff beat Magneto. Seriously, how did a normal person accomplish something most mutants could not even dream about?

Edit: Just caught up on the thread, got my Convergence answer haha

Changed jobs and have been listening to more podcasts now that I'm spending another 20+ Minutes in the car every day. One comic podcast put it perfectly my issues with Convergence... basically they don't give you any back story or context for much of the crossover, you're just expected to know all these different variants of characters and that's leaving many disconnected due to disjointed stories. Absent that there's no investment in anything, how invested can you really get in 2-issue stories (which are mostly seen as excellent and the main book fairly lacking)?

Secret Wars is taking the opposite approach because they have to, battleworld isn't a merging of different realities, it's a new revision of them and context is required. With this one issue I'm now interested in the full line, done rolling my eyes over Thors, etc. I'm hungry for more.

I read SW#2 and it seems like a huge undertaking. One which piques my interest. Marvel looks to be taking a big risk here, and I like the concept. They are doing far more than what Dc is doing with Convergence. My only question/concern is... how does all of this return to a planet Earth??? Or does it???

So I wonder what's become of the other planetary races during Secret Wars, such as the Kree, the Skrull, the Badoon, etc.

There was one Convergence tie-in that I really enjoyed which was written by Len Wein. I know he did a lot of X-Men/Hulk stuff, and wrote the 1st App of Wolverine. I'd actually like to go back and read some of his key pieces now since I do enjoy his writing style a lot.

So I've been doing some binge reading (knee surgery) after not reading much in many many years. I took advantage of Marvel Unlimited and have read a handful of odd and end issues but put most of my time reading the full 30ish issues runs of the All New Xmen and Superior Spider-Man. I enjoyed Xmen quite a bit (although a little too much Jean Gray love) but really, really enjoyed Superior Spidey. I've got too say it was hard to put the IPad down to take break between issues. Thanks to whoever it was that recommended it.

I've knocked back about 70 issues in the 4 or 5 days. It probably took me 6 months to read that many back when I actually collected. gotta love the digital age.

Will try and write a little more later, but having just read the 5 or so Secret Wars books this week I'll be picking up the #2 for all of them.

That good huh?? This is gonna be a rough week because there's probably about 25 books I WANT to buy, but about 10 I will buy...because I only have the time to read about 10/week.... if that.... :o

They ranged from OK to good, but I agree with the one-liner from the latest comic conspiracy podcast: this is Marvel meets Game of Thrones.

I'll do a better recap of what I liked tonight maybe. New job so been pretty busy.

Some good stuff out tomorrow (Inferno, Old Man Logan, Infinity Gauntlet), hope they deliver. Look at this cover for #2 for Infinity Gauntlet.

I can't wait to read Old Man Logan. I got to say, the spinoffs of Secret Wars are a million times better than the crap DC trotted out for Convergence.

Old Man Logan - nice setup book for tone and story. Was like reading an issue of hard boiled will all the action.

Infinity Gauntlet - just enough to enjoy and leave you wanting more. Liked it a lot.

Inferno - thought this was decent, get through a lot of story, not much setup.

2099 - weakest of the bunch, just didn't really attach to the characters.

Still have Modok to read, didn't pick up the 1602 book but night give it a shot, hadn't read any 1602 stuff previously.

Honestly, I don't think you really need to read any of the other universe stuff to really get what's going on. Marvel has done a great job of giving just enough information that the reader can understand what's going on despite missing some of the context.

BTW Deadpool's Secret Wars from last week was funny and awesome reading.

I haven't been much of a Deadpool fan for a while for whatever reason, MODOK kinda felt like a Deadpool book though, and liked the homage to Elektra, might grab that variant when I stop by a shop on the way home.

Will probably give the 1602 book a shot, with how good the last free weeks have been in OK taking a chance on it.

Another 5 books I'm looking forward to reading the #2s... Most books I've bought in consecutive weeks for months (all digitally at that).

I just read the final issue of the main Convergence book.

That my friends, was a massive stinky turd on DC's part. The Convergence event seemed like an excuse for DC creative to do their own little fan servicing with the spinoff titles and just fart around with the main book when it should (logically) be the other way around or, in the case of great events both the main book and the spinoffs should be excellent or close to it.

If they really wanted to do something with the multiverse and be a buffer between the next phase of the "New 52" than they could've used the month to do "Tales of the Multiverse" stand alone books and then jump right into the relaunch/new status quo for ongoing titles. I've long been singing the praises of DC (the last 2 or so years has been EXCELLENT) but with what they did to Batman (and the Trinity as a whole) with their new status quo well....DC has put itself on extremely shaky ground.

Marvel is now poised to be the superior brand from a creative standpoint linewide over DC for the first time in a while. it FEELS like they have a plan with Secret Wars and I trust the aftermath will lead to a much smoother transition than what DC has done.
