I hope we get to see Carnage in the next film

They'll have to find some way to bring Venom back

There's no way they can bring back Venom. If the movie established one thing, it established that (at the very least) Brock was killed. Without Brock, there's no Venom.

There can still be a "Venom" without Brock, however there cannot be a Venom without the symbiote which was destroyed (for all we know) in the movie.

Right, but it wouldn't be the same without Brock. We saw how well they established Brock, I don't want to see them establish somebody else as Venom.

They can always write their way around that little problem.

For all we know, Brock was blown offscreen and is severly hurt, thus forcing him to bond with the symbiote permanently.

Plus, I heard rumors that people could see some symbiote in the background after the explosion slipping down a crack (or something to that effect).

Saw Spiderman 3 yesterday and was disappointed. I loved the first two movies which I would give 4/4 stars (the second one was the best) but this movie gets a 2 or 2 1/2. It was different in style, substance and quality compared to the first two movies. Quite frankly, I can't believe its the same director. I don't care if the movie mirrors the comic book or not as I couldn't tell the difference anyways so that isn't my complaint.

The first two movies developed the story and characters in the first half and had great action and tied up the story in the second half. The third movie was a hollow action filled movie that sprinkled in weak and cheasy dialogue throughout to fill the gaps. It wasn't a horrible movie and it had the most humour of all of the movies but I can watch the first two movies over and over. I don't feel the need to do it for this movie or even own it on DVD like I do the first two.

If I had to compare the experience, Spidey 3 is similar to Terminator 3 or X-Men 3. Decent, mindless, action movies that you don't care to watch again because the story it weak. The movie should have stuck with the one bad guy plot and with Goblin, Sandman and Venom it felt crammed and not as good. The relationship and writing between Peter and MJ was bad and questionable compared to the first two movies as well. So much of the different story lines lacked meaning.

Absolutely not.

You can just bring these characters up out of nowhere and expect them to have meaning with the rest of what's going on.

There isn't enough back story or development with "Venom" (I use that loosely as, again, he never was referred to as that in the movie) to introduce Cletus Kassidy and Carnage. This movie really hurt their chances of developing the Carnage storyline.

If the next movie were to deal with Lizard, then you could introduce Cassidy and a backstory for a subsequent film utilizing Carnage.... but Venom and Carnage are two deep characters that deserve more than 25 minutes of character development.

Villains they could still use:

Lizard, Scorpion, Mysterio, Rhino

Though, if they had Scorpion or Rhino, that would mean they would probably need Fisk in there as well.

Or they could use the Spider-Slayers.

Spiderman probably has the most villains of any of the most popular superheros that you could actually turn into a movie and have work very well. It's a shame that the two best villains weren't really developed.

I still wish they had somehow went with the Sinister Six...now THAT would be an overcrowded, entertaining action movie. (And probably the only one that could have less character development as 3)

Saw the movie yesterday.

Like the other 2 Spideys, amazing trailers, mediocre movie.

Personally they should have used Sandman as an intro character, have a fight with him and Spidey in the first couple minutes, then go into 2 hours of a much deeper Venom story.

Finally saw it and while it was quite good there are definite flaws.

First I will go through some of the concerns that were brought up earlier in this thread. I will warn for those who may not have seen it that this will be pretty spoilerific.

1) pacing/sappy scenes: I agree that the pacing seemed "off" in these scenes. I don't know what it was but it seemed like it didn't just didn't click. I particularly found the conversation between Peter and Aunt May about proposing to Mary Jane to be way too wordy and overwrought with emotion for no particular reason. I had real problems with the conflict between MJ and Peter. It felt WAY too contrived and MJ seemed like she was PMSing badly. That being said the 3 movie long story arc of Peter and Harry's relationship was quite satisfying...

2) The Ending: I've seen some people complain about the "aww I forgive you" quality of the ending but I see it differently. First let's address Peter and Harry. I felt that was a great way to end their relationship. I loved how the movie harkened back to them as High School buddies and how that relationship grew and was destroyed. The forgiveness angle was a bit much but remember, deep down Harry's a good kid and truly liked Peter. I think the butler's revelation near the end opened Harry's eyes a lot.

I especially liked the resolution to Spidey and Sand Man's story arc. Peter forgave him not because it was in the script but because of what Aunt May said about not living with revenge in one's heart. I really felt sorry for Sand Man and I was happy to see that Peter was able to differentiate killing in cold blood and killing as a last resort. Sand Man was a desperate man who NEEDED the money.

3) Too much story in one movie: I would've preferred if Raimi and co. had stuck to the Venom storyline for the entire movie. It would've been better to explore the way the symbiote was affecting Peter with more time rather then the over the top scenes we got in the film. I also felt Gwen Stacy wasn't needed but it's always great to see James Cromwell in a film so I can't complain TOO much.

Other then these flaws I thought it was a solid movie. I really loved the final battle scene and seeing Sandman so huge like that was a little scary too!

You mean to tell me he knew about the original goblin and how he died all this time, and yet he watches Harry carry on with undue hatred for his best friend and waits until Harry has been disfigured and Peter asks him for help to bother to tell Harry the truth? Bull****.

Yes. That was terrible. It just seemed overly simplistic just to get Harry to reconnect with Peter. Why don't they put the words "SECRET GOBLIN LAIR" above the mirror too?

A lot of the story writing was brutally simplistic and Raimi chose the cheap and easy way out this time. Amnesia for Harry? Great and easy way to delay the next fight scene but come on. Even the crane getting out of control. They are yelling to pull the power as though the crane was plugged into a socket. Gwen wasn't even needed really. MJ's storyline was also weak and the entire relationship between her and Peter was poor compared to the first two movies.

Still can't believe Raimi directed this movie. The movie wasn't horrible but a clear disappointment for me compared to how great the first two were.

A friend of mine saw this last night and I was talking to him today at work about the movie. We pretty much agreed that the new elements introduced in the movie and the resolution of the series/movie made little or no sense whatsoever.

He also brought up something I didn't really think about. The formation of Sandman. I understand that he had escaped from jail and was running from the police, but what kind of experiment was going on and why? I mean, the pit literally came from nowhere and disappeared with no explanation.
