I only buy movies that I know I will like, have seen before, or own already. Once blu rays start hitting the 5-10 dollar range like dvds have been, I might let my guard down a little.

Wow, I'm all over that. Thanks for the heads up.

Same. I don't go out buying these movies to put on display (though it's a nice bonus), I literally watch all of these. I definitely average watching seven movies a week, even if it's falling asleep to one or putting one on in the background, etc.

Then I host a bunch of movie nights with like ten people and blast my system. The Dark Knight, Casino Royale and Live Free or Die Hard are always favorites when it comes to a Blu-ray experience.

I typically only buy movies that have good audio quality just so that I can make good use of my surround sound. But obviously some movies I buy are an exception. It's fun doing demos for people when they ask to test out my subwoofer too. Nothing like playing some scenes from Transformers and leaving them shaking their head at how much bass they felt.

See, I think I'm different. I'm all about how defined the sound is... how crisp and how quality you can hear every last detail. This is something I tried to explain on the AVS Forums multiple times when talking about Transformers 2, but I think they were so compelled by the LFE's and the surround that they didn't seem to grasp what I was talking about when I was referring to perfect sound. I gave an example of Live Free or Die Hard, but there's also Cloverfield, Quantum of Solace, and the like that leave absolutely nothing lost in the scramble. Transformers 2 sounds great, but recording-wise I feel like there could have been more.

But yeah, I've found myself looking at Blu-ray reviews being more hopeful that the audio quality is always high, regardless of the video quality since it will always be HD (1080p or something close to it). Audio can be a big hit-or-miss sometimes. Of course, comedies can be an exception... but I want good sounding dialogue too. There's a problem with Sin City, for example, where there are other weird sounds like a slight static and a high-frequency pitch whenever somebody talks. It's kind of annoying.

See, I think the little details and such like that, I am unable to pick up on. I can notice some details in the sound and all that, but honestly when there's so much sound coming at me, it's hard to really tell. All I know is that most of the movies I have sound great, particularly the ones that make active use of the surrounds, such as I Am Legend. I have a difficult time picking up the really small detailed sounds, I think.

I read about that, but never noticed the static/pitch in Sin City. Lucky me.

Oh, and I guess I didn't finish my post really and the point of it was. Anyway, I hear how people tend to crank their sub-woofers past eleven and want for it to be kicking even when somebody coughs. I disagree wholeheartedly on this matter. I tend to have it play more like it would in a movie theater... only kick in when necessary. In this case, the heaviest LFE's seem more impressive because you don't frequent it as often. If you're getting a headache from the bass, that's a problem IMO.

I don't know if that makes sense the way I'm typing it, but it shouldn't be like I hear it in those people's cars all of the time. Annoys the crap out of me.

I do agree with this. There shouldn't be bass when someone .. closes a door or something.

Would be curious to hear feedback on what the picture and audio quality is like for Monters Inc on blu-ray as it comes out tomorrow. Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo are my favorite pixar movies so they are must buys as long as they arent terribly done.

Listed by several reviewers as a must own. Near perfect audio and video on the technical side and obviously a top notch movie from pixar.

Yeah I mostly get my reviews from highdefdigest and the guy there said it was reference quality. Plus, you never have to worry about how a Pixar movie is gonna look on Blu Ray.

Okay, so I'm going on BestBuy.com and I see that UP is $19.99, plus you can get $10 off by selecting a second item. My friend also wants to get UP if we can somehow benefit getting it for like $14.99, but we can't both combine the same movie so we'd have to select another item.

So I try adding Monsters, Inc. to my order and it discounts both movies $5, which is probably how it would show up on the receipt. Do you think that if I return Monsters, Inc. on a later date that I would still get UP for the discounted $14.99? Or would that void the $10 off the deal?
