Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Yep. I took me forever to convince my dad that he needed to take his plasma off of vivid mode....said it was too dark otherwise.
Now I've gotta convince him to take the plasma off of ZOOM aspect setting. It's annoying when you can't read text that gets cut off on the edges, especially for channel surfing.Comment

Now that I just bought a 120 hz LCD set my stress level is zero. I was going to buy a plasma and I know they are alot better with preventing burn-in but the simple fact that it's still possible means it's always gonna be a nagging fear in the back of my mind. No matter what you always end up being too careful with it because of the possibility and it ends up being way too much maintenence. My wife laughs at our old CRT was so expensive when we bought it but you had to have all these rules about watching it when our old tube TV could be watched anyway we wanted too. It made her feel guilty about watching a show on the same channel for more than a hour.
The fear is gonna be there if I fall asleep with the TV on a 4:3 channel or my parents are over babysitting and watching CNN all night or playing a video game for 8 hours straight.
The point is if I'm gonna shell out big bucks for a big TV then I should be able to view it whatever way I want. If I want to watch 6 hours of 2:35 movies or use the vivid setting or have it as bright as I want it to be or watch 7 hours of football with tickers.
To be honest the LCD I bought looks just as good as the plasmas I was considering. With the 120 Hz I get no blurring, no glare issues, the black levels are great and there's no crushing whites and I don't have to worry about darkening the picture where I have to learn to get used to it because the high contrast will ruin the TV. Yeah I guess a brighter picture on my LCD will shorten my lamp life but it's rated at 60000 hours which for me would be about 15 years. I seriously don't think having it last only 13 years instead really matters since I will have a new set way before then.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 11-30-2008, 08:31 PM.Comment

My daughter (7 years old) keeps hollering at me to put the tv back to vivid mode.
Funny, I look at vivid now, it is blinding.Comment
