"Homicide" was great, but it's not clear to me how much of that was him vs. his collaborators (Tom Fontana, etc.). "Generation Kill" - meh. "Treme" was just boring to me. And because I found it boring, David Simon proclaimed the problem was me....

I might give it a shot, but to me, I feel like David Simon just gets to do whatever he wants now, and if that's repackage his political POV into a mini-series (okay, it's an adaptation of a book, but apparently it was pretty much all re-written) and foist it on a fawning public, then that's what he's going to do. Either way, I'm not blocking off time to watch it or anything....
I'll respectfully but emphatically disagree about The Corner. I am admittedly biased being not only from Baltimore, but spent a good amount of my younger years in the heart of that area. But it wasn't meant to be "exciting" it was meant to be depressing. It was based on a true story and a tragic story and that's what it portrayed.

I can't speak on anything else though... I did try to give Treme a chance and couldn't get into it.

I live about seven miles from the city of New Orleans, and I could find nothing about "Treme" that held my interest....not even the great Wendell Pierce.

Worthwhile counterpoint, wwharton. As with everything posted, everything I said comes with a big "IMO". I can see how if the story was more personal, it would make a huge difference in how the show was received. It's possible if I went back to it now, many years after the fact, I might even view it differently. It was definitely depressing, I'll agree with you there.

I stand by my opinion of Simon in general, but of course lots of good stuff has been made by total a-holes, so at the end of the day it probably doesn't matter all that much.

Yeah it's REAL hard for me to see that one from others eyes, so I do respect your opinion and would like to hear others. But I think The Corner was great at what it was trying to be... I can just imagine it being too heavy for many people to want to get deep into it.

My cousin used to write for Homicide so I'm pretty attached to that too. But trying to be impartial, I can say the man has done a damn good job with anything involving Baltimore... he's definitely done his homework on my city. Considering how I felt about Treme though, I am still waiting for something not related to Baltimore to grab me.

Being a Detroit guy at heart, I probably enjoyed "Hung" much more than I otherwise would have had it not been (ostensibly, anyway) a "Detroit-based" show.

I almost finished the first season, but I couldn't get there. I tried it because I noticed Jane Adams had a starring role. She was great in a 1 1/2 season stint on Frasier.

I'm guessing most of you have HBOGo but if you don't, the Blu Ray Set is on sale at Amazon for $79.99 with free shipping right now. Not sure how long it'll last but I figured I'd throw it out there for anyone interested.

I started watching The Sopranos again. In the second episode where Chris' friend bungles the truck heist I noticed one of the helpers was Bodie.

So this probably means I'll start up my annual Wire run-through soon.

If you like Bodie you should watch Oz.

I second this, but honestly if you like half The Wire cast you will like them in Oz. Other than McNaulty and Bunk who did not appear in Oz, there are a ton of the actors that were in both. Brodie being the one with the most prominent role in Oz along with Carver. Herc, Daniels, Barksdale as well as Rawls all had roles as well.

Interesting...Guy that played Lt. Daniels on The Wire is listed as having "various roles" in Oz.

Many Wire alumni have only one Oz episode to their credit.

Nice. Never actually looked up the whole list. Honestly I watch The Wire years ago and then Oz just in the past 6 months. Was cool to see how many would pop up throughout Oz. My wife and I would see who could name them first. Only one I lost was Brianna, all I remembered her as was D's mom.

Re: Being on OZ and The Wire. If you were an actor in the late 90s early 2000s getting hooked up with HBO was a pretty good gig. They recycled a lot of actors/Actreses. Edi Falco went from bit part in OZ to Carmela Soprana.
