    Re: Fringe anyone?

I was expecting something a bit more creepy after some of the creatures they've encountered before in this series.

I'm loving Peter in this new season. I think they've really expanded his role and he's really shining, in my opinion. But maybe that's because he'll always be Charlie Conway of the Mighty Ducks to me.

Hmm, I thought that little critter was the ugliest thing I've seen in the whole show. I kept thinking about The Descent with the way it was just dragging Dunham through the dirt tunnel.

Imagine seeing that thing jumping around biting people?

I do find it funny how most of their encounters are never ever that serious. It always ends rather quickly.

As for the story, it was cool. I get what they were trying to show there. It was an introduction to Dunham's "mutant" abilities by surrounding the show with mutants.

My guess is that Dunham finds out Charlie because she overhears him discuss something.
That's interesting about Charlie, seems probable, and a little weird that she would just happen to gain super hearing right when needed. I get the feeling that we were supposed to wrongly infer that her hearing thing was a side effect of the dimension shift, but I don't think it was. If the super hearing was a side effect, wouldn't have the expert lead off with that considering it was a more immediate and startling side effect than a headache?

            Re: Fringe anyone?

I don't think it's an expected side effect. Walter said that strange things can happen to people when they cross to the other dimension (I'm telling you guys, Peter's intelligence is one of these things. I'm not going to let go that his intelligence is the result of something rather than genetic). So, I'm going to assume that Walter doesn't know what those side effects are for people.

The bowling alley guy probably knows that headaches are a consistent side effect, but no one knows what, if anything, anyone might acquire in addition to a headache.

So, in short, my guess is that Dunham's new gift is just a writer's tool to help her figure out the truth about Charlie. I mean, it's obvious that her hearing is going to solve something big. Maybe, she'll be able to listen into conversations from the other dimension.

The thing that attacked Charlie in Season 1 was freaky. But I think the scariest thing was the guy who transformed on the airplane. That thing haunts me.

That and the guy who had his skin grow over his face. That was just kind of sick.

didn't all the kids excluding Olivia who were a part of those experiments that William and Walter were doing start showing some kind of ability? I remember the guy who was effecting the emotions of everyone around him. Perhaps the meeting with William Bell activated Olivia's hearing ability that's manifesting so far?

That's kind of what I was saying, I got the feeling that the writers wanted us to think this was part of the crossing from universes, but I think it's something else.

The light's illustrate the "new ability just when she needs it" phenomenon. But, then again, she never really needed or tried to turn off lights on a box so perhaps she had that ability all along.

Another thing I noticed, they had Nina mention several times that she had cancer, so I wonder if that has something to do with the universe crossing syndrome.

                      Re: Fringe anyone?

Just caught up on the first two episodes...AWESOME!

One thing I thought with the hearing is maybe that's how Walter was institutionalized. Having super hearing pop in and out, ignoring the people you're engaged with while hearing other stuff, having all these thoughts and fears about others' safety, etc...that would drive you nuts.

My wife and I also both said "It's Gollum" at the beginning of the second episode when you saw the monster in the shadows. Methinks we've been married too long, LOL.

Love the theory about the Walter2, hopefully someone can grab a screencap of the Observer in the second episode, and I can't wait for the rest of the season. The only gripe, and it's minor, is that the "other universe soldier guy" kind of did the transformation into Charlie pretty damn fast, especially with Peter and the new agent racing towards the gunshots.

                        Re: Fringe anyone?

Walter was put on trial for manslaughter after the death of the lab assistant and the accusations of human testing, then he was deemed mentally unstable and institutionalized. While it never came out and said it, I got the feeling (and worked under that assumption) the government forced his institutionalization as a cover up for all the human testing and such Walter did in the US government's name. That's why I assumed access to him was so limited (limited to a seemingly estranged wife and child).
