Saw this last week and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't as blown away as I thought I'd be.

They did a great job with some things, but based on what was said prior to release, I thought it'd be closer to the book. That's not to say it wasn't close at all, but they changed quite a bit. Did love the very end.

The beginning where they show Marcus flat lining after being rescued (which didn't happen according to the book), started things off on the wrong foot for me.

Kaiju Friday: Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)

Don't feel like rehashing too much of what I wrote on the blog but suffice it to say this was the first of the "modern" Godzilla movies to have the feel of the '60s films. The plot is a bit convoluted and out there but it works. The movie has tongue firmly implanted in cheek throughout but there are actually some deep messages you can pull out of it which is a pleasant change from the older movies which drilled their messages into your head.

This gets *** stars from me.

Came into this one knowing essentially nothing about it but the title of the movie, which gives away the entire plot. It was an alright movie, but I'm getting so tired of the "found footage" gimmick in horror. I started to get sick at the end because I'm not the greatest with blood, but even then, I've seen gorier films. I'd give it a C-.

I went into it with an open mind, but in the end, I just didn't buy it. I thought the movie would be more about Theodore's internal struggle with falling in love with an OS and the fallout (having to keep it a secret, etc.). Nope, he fires up the machine and falls in love in like 10 minutes of screen time. Takes the computer on dates with friends, goes on weekend getaways, etc. I get that he was a lonely, recent divorcee but come on, he even had a pretty hot date in the beginning of the movie. It just wasn't believable to me.

Inside Llewyn Davis: I was into it. 7/10. Pretty solid soundtrack and the acting was superb.

Went in expecting one thing and got another. The 'twist' didn't make much sense for me but its a minor quibble. Also I thought they gave a good reasoning why the main character can do what they can.

American Hustle - I liked it untill the end. The ending was lackluster.

I watched it with my family when they came to visit me last weekend and I came away underwhelmed.

I too found the beginning with Marcus flatlining to be a bad way to start the movie out. Actually, I didn't like the movie at all until about 1/3 of the way through.

I expected it to be better.

It's tough to say I "enjoyed" the movie.....only in the aspect that the story was true and tragic(and Mike Murphy was a good friend of someone I know quite well from the F.D.)...but it was an intense film.
Brutal at times and an interesting ...albeit sad .....film.

I can't take away from it for not being exactly as IRL....as it was noted in the opening scene "BASED on a true story" and not "THIS is a true story".

Hollywood is going to make it's screenplays as it always does...with a little latitude and Marc Luttrell has talked about that in several interviews.

Solid 8 or 8.5

Old Boy - I finally watched this. Could this be the most elaborate revenge story ever because it certainly feels like it. Its not really something you immediately need to watch again, but it gets stuck and nests in your head making you wonder where the **** that came from and how you're supposed to compute the climax and resolutions. As a film it is at the top of its class as it sets out to out-American American dramas with a well paced story, peppering of violence, and a villain that schemes like The Joker. I didn't have any interest in Spike Lee's version before and now I don't even know why it was greenlit.

Amazing that they were able to get the original equipment from Karloff's "Frankenstein".
