Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
My advice, if you think its going to drive you up a wall, can you return the set and get an LCD? Granted with the LCD you won't get some of the gaming/BD viewing benefits like from the plasma, but it will give you a piece of mind. I'll be honest, I tinkered with getting an LCD a few times during owning the plasma, but I'm glad I have stuck it out.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm in love with my TV and I wouldn't go back. It's awesome that I'm able to get opinions and advice from people on here. I read a lot of review and do my own research and it nice to hear what everyone thinks.
I appreciate all the advice I have received including your (Captain) advice to pull the trigger. I actually think my TV is worth way more than I paid which sounds funny but its true.Comment

The older your set gets, its supposed to get better with IR.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
If you buy a new plasma you do not have to run slides but is a good thing to do regardless because it improves color accuracy
I did that with my Kuro and Panny for 150 hrs each
Put it on at midnight and went to bed and it took me about 2 weeks before I watched tv on it
I was ok because I had another tv but this is what I did
Not saying you have to but it is idealComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I ran slides when I went to bed and let it go all day while at work. then watched TV (at low settings) and rinsed/repeated...
I ran slides for roughly 150 hours.
As of now any IR I get lasts maybe 5 seconds and is gone.
The "worry" I had has dropped a lotJoshua:

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Exactly what I did. I ran slides from approximately 10-11pm until 6-7pm the next night when I get home from work. Then I'd watch regular TV with low contrast/brightness etc... until 10-11pm. Rinse, repeat... Took a little less than 2 weeks before I was done with the break-in slides. Haven't seen any IR so I'm happy.
Good job bud and also SkyBoxer
I love hearing folks take good care of their DisplaysComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
When I got my first plasma and didnt know much about it years ago, I played Hitman on it and got those same issues lol
I stopped using that game and learned to turn the settings down like contrast and brightness FTW
You will still see images stay on the screen for a bit while the gas cools down even after you've had the set for a long time but it reduces greatly and really the burn in issue is only really a problem when you do something like leave the CNBC stock ticker on your tv 24/7
I learned alot from Heelfan since he was one of the first guys here with a plasma and he gamed on it all the time, says he's never had a problemComment

Nice to see people giving plasmas a try. They are a good purchase (provided you don't show some extreme neglect).
I loved my first and only LCD which was my 2nd HDTV ever. First one was a 52" Phillips rear projector HDTV (weighs about 250lbs). After having owned 2 plasmas, I won't be going back to LCD.Comment
