Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Hey everyone, hope all is well and everyone is staying healthy and safe through these weird times we live in. I have a couple of questions that I am truly hoping someone can help me with. Forgive me if this turns into a long post.
I am currently in the middle of buying a new home and will have a nice basement to build out a nice system over time. My issue is going to be budget. Here is what I am hoping to accomplish:
TV: 65 inch or bigger (realize bigger likely won't happen). While I am in love with LG OLED's, I just can't justify the expense right now. I fully recognize that with the PS5 coming out (which I will own sooner rather than later) that a future TV purchase may be necessary to get HDMI 2.1, 4k 120 mhz, etc. However, I want 4k and HDR for now.
Surround Sound: I don't want to buy a home theater in a box (unless someone has a great suggestion). I am not an audiophile but I do want this to sound excellent with movies, music and games. I will likely not be able to get full 5.1 right away so I am thinking of a receiver, Left/Right/Center speakers for now. I can get the rear speakers and subwoofer at a later date possibly. I do have a record player that will need a hook up to the receiver (not sure if all receivers have this connection but thought I should mention it in case they do not.)
The games I like to play: I play MLB The Show and TGC 2019 the most with TGC getting most of my time. I do also play games like Spider-Man, Unchartered, Tomb Raider, (just got) The Witcher, Fallen Jedi...if not for baseball and golf, then usually an action/adventure type game.
Budget: This is the hard part and is hard to say exactly at this time. I guess as little as possible LOL. Truthfully, I would like to stay under $1000 for the TV (if possible) and maybe around $500 for the receiver and speakers. There is a tiny bit of wiggle room on those numbers, but if I spent $800 on a TV then that gives me a bit more on the receiver and speakers.
I realize that in a year or so I may need to upgrade the TV again (I can put this new one somewhere else so not a HUGE deal). I would be more concerned with OLED burn-in due to the amount of golf I play and the static images that is on that game. But I also eventually want a GREAT TV in the basement so if OLED it is, then it is and I will just have to be super careful with it. But in the meantime, I would like to get a nice enough TV that I would be happy with it in the interim and later on.
That's it. Sorry for the long post. Any suggestions from you fine folks?
EDIT: Currently I have a 60" LG 1080p TV (60LA7400) and an LG Soundbar. Not sure if there will be much difference going from that TV to a 4K TV in my price range, but that's where I'm at. I know a receiver and speakers will be a massive improvement, especially over time when I can get full surround.#WeAreUKComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
For surround sound: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 6D - $799.98, includes 5.1, all you’d need would be a receiver, which I would do the Denon AVRX1600H for $599. Comes in at $1400 but would give you true surround sound at a high quality.

It's gonna be tough getting that surround for 500.00, but here's a set of speakers and receiver.

Thanks but that would leave no money for a tv. Do you have a suggestion for a tv and then maybe just the receiver and a couple of speakers for now that I can add on to over time to get 5.1?Last edited by PhantomPain; 04-28-2020, 07:34 AM.#WeAreUKComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
As far as TV, you'll need to spend around $900 (RU8000) or $1000 (Sony 900F). A good receiver alone is going to run at least $500-$600. You could always pair it with some KEF Q150s for $300. That would put you at about $800-$900. Only puts you over budget by about $400 or so.PSN-Shugarooo
