That sucks man. However you do have a plethora of knowledgeable people here who don't have an agenda so if you have any questions throw it our way. I'm sure we can get you put in the right direction depending on what you want out of it.

My end goal is to spend between $800-$1000. Used almost exclusively for gaming. I'm a graphics whore if that helps.

Here is something I came up with. It's a bit over your price range and doesn't include an OS or an extra HDD but since you are a graphics whore (I am as well lol) I tried to round out your system off the graphics card. The GTX 1080 is a beast. Now we could drop this down a notch or two and still have a very solid machine for a little cheaper. I wouldn't go lower then the the i5 - 7500 because you never want to get in a position where your CPU throttles you GPU. I've had that before and it sucks. The motherboard, case, ram, and power supply are nothing special but will get the job done. I put on a SSD drive because that is the ideal solution for your primary drive. 10 sec Windows load up times are amazing compared to a standard HDD. Anyways this machine would murder most games at highest settings or close to.

Left Microcenter even more confused. My brother in law met me down there and he wants me to get a build like his even though I'm telling him I may not use this feature now but possibly down the road. And he's very confusing when explaining. Finally we walked out 15 minutes after closing.

We made a list while at the store but I just wasn't happy with the choices he was deciding for me. He has a lot of leftover parts that he's collected over the years and I was getting the sense he wants me to buy some from him. Hmmm?
As you can see doing this with him may have been a bad decision on my part.

Can you recall what he was saying? Experience doesn't necessarily mean you actually know WTF you are actually talking about. Can you post what list he had you come up with? I'd only buy used if the parts are still under warranty for a few years, or extremely discounted.

Even when I picked out a case he was like no don't get that one and I'm like wtf?? He said I needed just a plain case. Well why do I need a plain case??

If it fits in the budget get whatever case you want. Sounds like he just doesn't like flashy cases though. I like flashy cases, but if it puts you over budget don't spend $150 on a case.

The most popular, least expensive, good looking case nowadays seem to be the NZXT S340.

Can someone please build me a 4k capable PC with about 1000 bucks?

Dont need a monitor. My RAM should be good as well. Im sure my PSU is fine as well. I have a i7 proccessor that I believe is fine. Its a 3770k @ 3.50 ghz.
