Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
If you're looking to run any game at max settings at 1080p, get this card. If you're wanting to play games at 4K or use VR, the 1080 is where you want to go. When I was doing research on GPU's I found that the performance difference between the 1070 and 1080 was marginal FPS wise. You may get 10-20 more FPS with the 1080 depending on the game but you're well over 100 on most games anyway so you might as well get the 1070 and save a few hundred bucks.
I highly recommend this card to anyone wanting to upgrade. The price is a bit steep (I live in Canada so the prices are even higher than US) but you're future proofing yourself with this card for years to come. There's nothing bad I can say about this GPU. The software is good and the overclocking capabilities are amazing. I'm running the GPU stock so I can't even begin to imagine the amount of horsepower still sitting dormant in this thing lol.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Apparently Nvidia is about to announce the 1080ti. From what I've read, it could (and probably will) affect the current GPU prices.
I am in the market for a new card and had my eyes set on the MSI 1060 Gaming X 6gb. I'd love to grab a 1070, but between my current budget and CPU, the 1060 seems like my best bet ATM.
My question to you guys: do you think the announcement later today will actually affect prices of the current cards and if so, how soon do you think? I don't want to jump on a card just to have it end up discounted in the very near future.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
The 1080ti won't effect current prices since normally the TI cost more, usually a $100 to $150 more. The only thing that will effect Nvidia pricing is if AMD Vega turns out to be a better performer at a cheaper price. You saw this yesterday with Intel dropping the prices of their I7s because Ryzen out performed them at a cheaper cost. That caused Intel to drop their price by $40 on their I7s.
I fully expect the 1080ti to cost about $700 to $800 considering the 1080 cost $580 to $700 depending on the model.Comment

I'm in the market for a gaming pc. Have a really nice bonus coming towards the end of March so I've decided to take the plunge. Is it possible to get a nice rig for around $1000? Not sure I want to build one from the ground up. Thought about going to Microcenter to purchase one already built.

And depending your tech ability you should definitely think about about building it. YouTube is a great resource and when you put it together yourself you're making your dollar go further.

Does that include a monitor? You can absolutely build something nice for $1,000.

Not including a monitor. Already have a nice monitor. I'm a convenience kinda guy. Don't mind paying extra for it. Just want to plug it up and go. Also want to be able to upgrade as needed to keep up with the changing specs of pc's to be able to game on high settings.
This is gonna be foreign territory for me but I think I'm ready. Love console gaming but I just think it's time.
Thanks for the input.

I always tell people to build it themselves though. Your money goes further, it's pretty simple if you take an hour watching YouTube videos to familiar, and then there is the extra satisfaction once it boots up.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Without a monitor, and as stated above with CPU prices falling, you'll be able to put together a beast with a grand to play with.
Good luck, Flight. I hear you on the convenience factor but you should at least look into doing it yourself. Outside of working in a confined space, it's really not too difficult. Maybe even look to pay someone to put it together, but you order all the parts. Plenty of people here to help or point you in the right direction.
It seems way more daunting than it actually is. But at the end of the day you're going to be happy with you choice to join the master race.

I remember when I was trying to install that CPU for the first time. I was so afraid I was gonna break it! Couple hours later, it was so satisfying to see my first build boot-up and working properly.Comment
