Okay, this is tough. The easy answer is that it's possible, but you're going to have to find one of several particular drives that somebody still has with an older firmware prior to that company upgrading it with specific encryption software. That, or you're going to have to do the trickiest, non-foolproof, sometimes unsafe roll back attempts ever.

Case in point, I still haven't gotten one because this isn't an easy thing to make happen. Ripping 4K has a bunch of weird things to them, one being it just wasn't very easy to make happen in general. There wasn't a one-all decryption key for all movies, so people had to come up with ones for individual titles (many have been discovered by a select few people, but not all). The next problem is as I stated: companies have reversed that process with extra encryption in their firmware, and products that you buy online will already have them updated. Rolling back isn't as easy as going to the Device Manager, it is so much more complex than that. And I mean so much more complex.

The third hassle is even if you can rip it, keep in mind you would be getting the raw data. You would be displaying the non-graded, SDR washed out stuff. If your computer and player can make HDR happen, I guess there is a way around it. Otherwise, converting the HDR look to SDR is another issue in and of itself that I still don't know how I would be able to remedy myself. On the phone? You might have to just forget about it... unless you have a studio version of something that once you get the SDR regrade that you can render (plus, file sizes can be 100+ GB, so you'll likely have to compress the hell out of them or lower their resolutions through re-encoding as well).

I would type more and link you about stuff right now, but you caught me in a bathroom break during my sleep time haha. I'll connect you with more information later, but this is not an easy process whatsoever, and I have held off on making it happen myself for these reasons.

Ok nevermind then, not even going to deal with all that, thanks. I'll still get one but won't worry about burning them.

Decided on getting a Dell laptop.

256gb SSD, FHD display (probably IPS), 8gb ram, Ryzen 5 3500u processor.

Might see something better by BF and Boxing Day, might not. Dont see specs around this price being much better even on BF sales(at best it might be bigger SSD or touchscreen, neither I really need). At most maybe the specs I got for this laptop ends up being 10% cheaper than what I paid, but that's ok.

The wireless card might not be so great (this MIGHT be it https://www.amazon.com/QCNFA435-Blue.../dp/B07FMQ1SHH). If that's the case, I hopefully can just upgrade it easily.

I'm looking to make an upgrade or two to my computer for Christmas. I originally built this in 2014 and since then have only upgraded my graphics card. I bought a VR headset, Samsung Odyssey+, but it hasn't exactly worked as smoothly as I'd hoped even though all of my parts meet the minimum. What would you suggest? I'm thinking the CPU needs to be upgraded next but I'm not sure if I need a new motherboard before I even think about upgrading to newer parts? I'm probably looking for something mid-level to low high-end.

Your GPU is on the low end of what’s recommended for VR and your CPU is quite a few generations back. I would look a new z390 MB and at least a 8700 CPU. That GPU can push VR, but an upgrade there would help as well.

Honestly I would recommend a new build. But hay that’s fun!

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Recently built a new machine with an AMD 5700 XT GPU. Worst decision I've ever made on a pc build. The performance has been very lackluster. I play Beat Saber on the Occulus Rift S, and frequently drop frames. Noticed some random frame drops in a number of other non-vr games too, and youtube videos on my 2nd monitor frequently lag when not that monitor is not selected (turning off hardware acceleration made it so that the audio would still play, but the video was still choppy).
The card's specs are pretty solid, comparable to a Nvidia 2070 RTX, but the thinking seems to be that the driving factor is bad AMD drivers, and if that's the case then it's pretty bad that a card that has been out for 6 months still can't get good driver support.

This is my first all AMD system in a while (Radeon 3800x CPU), and although it was cheaper than an intel/nvidia build it still wasn't cheap. Pretty disappointing to have so many issues. I really hope that this all falls on the GPU. I'm going to check tomorrow to see if they'll let me return the AMD card and upgrade to a Nvidia one. Hopefully that's the only issue here, and it doesn't extend to the cpu as well.

Naw it is strictly that sorry *** AMD 5700XT GPU. A lot of people returned that card in the past couple of weeks. Pay $50 more and get a 2070 Super. Your CPU is fine.

Was playing Madden almost 2 months ago when my screen froze, I shut down my computer and it wouldn't turn back on. When I hit the power button, the machine acts like its booting and on for 20 seconds (no monitor display), turns off and keeps cycling.

Tried a replacement GPU, no luck. Replaced the motherboard, no difference. Replaced the CPU, no difference. Replaced the power supply, no difference. Finally said **** it and took it to some repair guys because I didn't have time to look at it, they did nothing. I realized the only thing I hadn't swapped out at this point is the case...

So I took a bunch of the parts and put them all in a second case...Same issue. The worst part is it actually booted up like everything was fine the first time but it froze during Windows updates and went back to the same issue. **** sucks, I need Red Dead and Star Wars.

It's possible, I have a USB to SATA cable so I can take it out and check it in my laptop, but I had this same issue with another drive.

Turned it on this morning, powered on for 3 seconds (woke up the monitor but didn't get to BIOS screen), shut off, came on for maybe 2, shut off again, rebooted and now its all the way up. What an adventure.

Yeah, I’ve tried 2 different ones.

Got up this morning and it booted up like nothing was wrong, left it on while I went to class, came back and it was still good (with the backup motherboard and parts). Took them out to put my main motherboard and parts in and had the same issue as before. Took my M2 drive out and put in the same hard drive as the backup and no changes. I have absolutely no idea what’s wrong with this thing.

So it worked this morning with the backup motherboard and parts. Didn't work with the main motherboard and parts ? Is that correct ? Either that main motherboard is faulty or you not putting in all the motherboard power cables. Depending on the motherboard, you can have a few. I know my motherboard has the 24pin plus 2 additional power cables going to it.

It is weird all of a sudden the backup motherboard and parts are working.

The backup motherboard is actually the one that the problem started with which is the annoying thing. I can try to move everything back but I can’t stand having to reseat my cpu cooler, especially not knowing it’ll make any difference.
