Looks good. If you have a Staples or Office Depot in Canada, I would check them out too, since those stores kind of specialize in cheap laptops and PCs.

Far as the 720p vs 1080p thing, 1080p just look better in everything you do, even just browsing websites and looking at words on the screen.

The more I look, the more I'm finding things which fit all the criterias I'm looking for, even finding 1080p ones in my budget, some even on the manufacturers site itself. Only differences in most just seem to be the processor. Which is both a good and bad thing because I don't really know how to judge processors.

It's making this complicated based on all possible options. Know of any good online review sites? Because I try looking for some reviews which is hard because everyone either loves or hates stuff. And for laptops, some models are so similar to each other, it's sometimes hard to find reviews for the exact item I find. I might find the right model, but that one has a different hard drive, or different processor from the one I found.

You don't really need a SSD. It boots up faster and is faster than a typical HDD but it's not a processor.

Other than that gotmadskillzson gave you great options/choices to make.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Something else I never thought about, just going straight to the manufacturers website. I've found some lower priced options while still getting everything I wanted. I'm slightly surprised they have it cheaper than stores. Though I guess "cutting out the middleman" is probably why. Some I've seen on manufacturers site go for about $200-300 more elsewhere.

They all have same resolution, screen size, HDD, RAM.

Cheapest I found is a Lenovo Ideapad 330:
Integrated AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics
          AMD Ryzen™ 5 2500U processor
          1 x USB Type-C 3.1 and 2 x USB 3.0
          $531

All others I've seen have the Intel Core i5-8250U processor which I'm hoping is good (some specify 8th gen, others don't, so I assume ALL are 8th gen) and Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. Ranging from $650-$700.

Only differences I see in the $650+ ones are USB ports. I've read up online, but anyone here want to "dumb it down" for me when comparing USB ports, specifically difference from:
          USB 3.0
          3.0 GEN 1 Type C
          3.1 Gen 1
          3.1 Gen 1 Type A

^ Does something like Type C and Type A mean only certain USB connections can go into it?

And also, some even say "Data Transfer only" beside the USB port which I don't know what that means. I'm using 1 USB port for my USB mouse(will be plugged all the time) and only things ATM I'm using my other USB ports are transferring things to/from my Flash/External drive and phone.

USB 3.0, 3.1 gen 1, 3.1 gen 1 type A are all the same thing. Just a USB port with ultra fast data transfer speed. You really don't have to worry about USB type C unless you are a Mac user. But essentially USB type C allow you to send data, video, audio and power through the same cable.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

My mind is probably gonna change again, but as of now it's between:
              Lenovo V330 15"
              and
              HP Pavilion 15-cc610ms

              Lenovo one has 1 USB 3.0 Gen 1 type C and 2 USB 3.0

HP has 1 USB 3.0 Gen 1 type C and 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (data transfer only, which I'm hoping isn't any different from the 2 USB 3.0 the Lenovo has?).

HP is also a touchscreen which is a bonus.

The price is $279 to $310 depending on what brand you get.

Depends on what type of games you play and if you prefer 4K or not. Also depends if you need a totally all parts PC or are you just upgrading. Because with how high GPU prices are now, then yeah most of your budget going to be on the graphics card by itself.

                      Some current prices:

2080 ti - $1,200 to $1,500, depending on brand and model.

                      2080 - $800 to $1,000.

                      2070 - $500 to 600

                      2060 - $350 to $450

                      Radeon R7 - $700

                      CPU:

                      9900K - $530

                      9700K - $420

                      8700K - $380

                      Ryzen 2700X - $300

Now with that out the way, if you prefer the best of the best: then 2080ti and 9900K.

If you simply prefer 1440p with 144mhz or higher refresh rate: then a 8700K or ryzen 2700x and 2070/2060 or even a 1080 or 1080ti or radeon 7 would do.

So the choice is yours. A lot of people waiting on Navi, but something tells me Navi isn't coming this year due to 7mm supply issues due to that plant contamination that supplies the 7mm wafers.

I would go with a 8700K and a 2080. Get a good PSU and slap a 500G NVMe drive for the OS. Pop a Sata Ssd for other stuff.

I have a z370 Taichi for a MB and would easily recommend it to you.

Get a 1440p 144hz monitor. You will be amazed.

I really want this to be powerful and future proof. I may run this on my OLED at times also so a monitor is not needed right away.

If you are only shooting for 1080p everything that has been written is overkill. A 1060 will be fine for 1080p for years.

It's pretty good, I would prefer a 1TB SSD though.
