Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I DID IT GUYS! I built my first PC. I'm so excited. Took me a few hours because I was in and out of the house during it but I got it done and ready to install Windows. Planned to use the newegg tutorial to help me, but he was going a little fast at times and it was kind of difficult to see which ports he was plugging everything into, so I just combined the collective instruction manuals of my case, motherboard, and power supply and got it done. Computer parts have got to be the only products that come with instruction manuals that are legitimately helpful as far as I know, told you exactly where everything went with a labeled diagram, and still gave step by step instructions on how to properly install everything. Anyway, will check back later after I've installed Windows and really gotten into it.
Here's My Build (I think it was like $1200):
Intel Core i5 3470
ASRock H77M Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
PowerColor Radeon HD 7870 XT 2GB Video Card
TP-Link TL-WN751ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter
Rosewill Challenger-U3 ATX Mid Tower Case
XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
I bought a Windows 8 OEM disc on Amazon and I'm going to upgrade to Pro with my free student upgrade and a 24" Asus 1080P monitor.Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 08-10-2013, 10:09 AM. Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Woohooooo mission accomplished with the latest mod to my Silverstone Grandia GD08...............I have everything setup and the system has been running the last hour with no issues so far. I just need to figure out how I am going to power the rear 80mm fans, I have run out of motherboard fan connectors. Everything is pretty much setup on Y splitters with 2 fans to each fan header on the mobo.
My next project, to figure out how I can get some kind of fan controller in here, add a window on the top, and last but not least...........color that darn wood black. I'm also kicking an idea around of possibly drilling additional holes to the bottom of the chassis for either cable management or being able use twist ties for the cables that are under the motherboard.
The HDD's in the corner are about 31 and 34 degrees. I am going to probably mount a small fan in that area somehow.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I'm thinking of upgrading my current XFX 6870 graphics card to something more current and more powerful for when Battlefield 4 drops. I haven't been following PC parts for a few years now so I'm not in the loop with the current tech.
Any recommendations?Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

If money isn't a problem GTX 780.
Don't feel like spending a lot, get an AMD card like the 7970 or 7870.
7970 - $380 to $450 depending on who makes it
GTX 780 - $650 to $700 depending on who makes it
GTX 680 - can be had for $450, but I would rather get the GTX 770 for the same price, which is more powerful then the 680.
Hands down though, the GTX Titan is the most powerful, but that is a $1,000 card, GTX 780 is the second most powerful.Comment

Along the lines of upgrading, what is the used parts market like? If there is one at all. I've an MSI 660 ti pe which handles bf3 really well. I probably don't need to upgrade but this talk has me curious.

Possibility of bundling all three games you think?

Yea, they're part of the never settle bundle. This time around though instead of giving you 1 set of games with your card, AMD is letting you select the games you want from the bundle.Comment
