I never heard of that website before to be honest. But here is Tom Hardware's reviews on some actual games.

And the link for the over all review

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...view,3750.html

For the price, it is worth the upgrade or you can get the R7 265 which is the same price, performs a tad bit better. If you are willing to go a tad bit over $200, then you have the R9 270 and the 660 which both are exactly at $200.

So you definitely have some options. Just depends if you want to stay under $200 or tad bit over $200.

Thanks for the info. I just upgraded to 16 gigs of ram. I guess I need a reason to drop the cash on the video card. Any games out there on the PC that must be experienced?

Looks like my motherboard took a crap. Its time to upgrade anyway.

I was looking at AMD FX-8350 Black Processor, Gigabyte GA 990FXA MOBO, and an r9 270X video card.

Figure I can upgrade for just about $500 for that.

Can anyone tell me what the black rubber looking piece next to my CPU cooler is? I'm trying to add an exhaust fan at the top of my case but this piece is in the way. It looks like it is held down by two push (spring?) screws. I checked my mobo manual but it doesn't have his listed on the diagram. I have an ASRockZ77 Pro 3 1155.

Possibly a heat spreader for on board memory chips?

Processor hasn't really dipped below $180 since Christmas (currently $190 is as cheap as you can get). Depending on your OC interest, I haven't heard the greatest things about that motherboard, but the UD3 is $120; the UD5 is $160+. If you get the cheapest 270X, that's $200, but if you want a 4GB model, you're looking at at least $230. You can do $500, but I'd at least spend the extra $30 and get the 4 GB of memory; it might come in handy at some point. I'm still skeptical of that motherboard. When I got my FX-8350, it was on my list, but I just read too many negative things. However, it is a great price for a 990FX board. The ASUS board I got looks like it shot up in price. It is going for $150 now and I got it for $105 back in December.

I went with the ASUS sabretooth motherboard. And the GTX 760 video card. I got the 2GB version, that was probably a mistake. Should have got the 4gb, but it was running total war on ultra between 40 and 60 fps so that was ok. Got 16 gig of ripjaw ram installed too. I should be ok for a while. Good news is, I should be able to recoup a few hundred $ off of ebay for the old components.

That is a heat spreader for the PWM chips. If it's in the way, your only recourse is really to put the fan elsewhere or get a thinner fan.

Thanks for the responses guys. I wound up placing the fan on the top rear of the case behind my push/pull CPU fan setup. I have two places for 120mm fans at the top of the case but unfortunately I can't use them due to the heat spreader and RAM placement.

I wouldn't mess with that, it might be one of your bridges, could easily do some damage to the mobo taking it off.

Thanks for the heads up. Got it for $179, but I was in pretty bad need of it so I am fine spending the extra $20.
