Anyone here got a nVidia 760 2GB (whatever version)? Thinking of upgrading my 460SE to that in anticipation of Dragon Age and The Witcher 3.

Reviews have been fantastic for that card and I've just about made my mind up on the purchase but additional comments from fellow PC-enthusiasts would be great.

I don't, I actually have two 680s... but I believe you're trying to decide on which version to go with.

For graphics cards, I've stuck with eVGA for the longest time. They've never let me down in the past, and I'm sticking with them for the foreseeable future.

They make great products, have fantastic customer support and seem to stand by their warranties strongly (though I can't speak on the last one other than what I've heard. I've never run into an issue with my cards - DOA's do happen in the tech field though.)

EVGA was great too me. I got an 8800GT back in 2008. It has a lifetime warranty (which I think most of their cards do unless something has changed). It died on me in 2012. It didn't take much effort at all to get a replacement. Just make sure you register the card when you get it to prevent any issues down the line.

What settings do you want to run them at? The 760 is a solid mid range card, but I doubt it will be able to run The Witcher 3 at the highest settings. I've got a 770 myself and have been able to run everything at the highest settings aside from Watch Dogs (though that's probably due to Ubisoft's shoddy port).

High to Ultra. My 460SE is able to run all my games at high settings, Tomb Raider being the newest game I've thrown at it. I've yet to install Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite, etc. but I'm sure the 760 will handle those fine.

Considering there will be a PS4/XBOX One version of The Witcher 3, I'm fairly confident I'll be able to run the game on high with the 760. Still, there's quite a number of months left so I wouldn't mind holding off until they release the recommended specs.

I accidentally plugged my pc without checking if there was a switch from 110 v to 220v. The voltage here is 220, most chargers, ps3,Mac stuff can take all voltage automatically.

Not my new pc, I hear a big pop and smoking. Do you guys know if it's just the psu or is the whole thing fried?

I'll have to check if it's under warranty on what I did.

A good PSU should be able to protect the rest of the components. Most newer PSUs also have adjustable voltage or are auto-vault.

Try a different PSU (with the necessary wattage to power up all of your hardware) before you replace everything.

My computer did the same exact thing months back (though not due to voltage like that.) It was just the capacitor on the psu - hopefully that's all it is for you as well though there's no way to tell unless you have another rig/parts to set-up a test bench tore scenario.

I finally have some disposable income and was finally looking around to building a PC for me to use for gaming. Does anyone have a chat client that they would be interested in helping me out on? I think it would be a lot easier to explain over that than posting on here. PM me please.

Not a PC question but I figured this would be about the best thread to ask.

Just upgraded my modem, router, and internet plan a couple days ago. The test results from speedtest are roughly 30 to 32 download and 2.0 to 2.2 upload when connected directly to the modem which pretty much spot on what I was told I'd get.

When connecting to the router whether I'm connected via wifi or wired my download drops to 18 to 20 and upload stays pretty much the same. That's running the test on my laptop and XB1 with both getting very similar results when connected to the router.

Security settings in the router or other ideas?? Didn't have the issue with old hardware and previous plan.

Did you turn off your modem before you hooked up the new router ? Turn it off and on again might fix that problem. If not, probably a setting in the router you need to adjust. Sounds like the router is trying to manage the ports on their own, instead of just letting the data flow directly through.

                            Thanks for the reply madskillz.

I did figure it out after a lot of trial and error. The router has a feature to prioritize your devices. I had turned that on when I setup the router and gave my XB1 priority. Turned the feature off and my speed is where it should be now.

Not sure how that feature works but I guess it allocates a certain amount of bandwith for the prioritized device and applies it if it hits a certain number. If that's even possible. Seems like there would be a more efficient way of doing though.

Hey guys I just got a new monitor to go with my new PC. I have a really really noob question

The monitor supports 120 and 144 refresh rates, is there any reason not to put it in 144? Like, any drawback at all? I am sure image quality and whatnot is the same, right?
