Are you using the stock heatsink/fan? I'm thinking I might have to get an aftermarket one, because this thing sounds like a jet engine about to take off every time it has to do anything taxing.

I don't have that same processor, but I use this heat sink. Has worked fine so far and seems to be pretty quiet.

That seems to be the most popular one, but from watching the video on that site I'd be amazed if it fit in my case. I think the case is only like 7" or 8" wide.

Need to be more specific than 7-8. My case is 7.3" wide and it fits fine, but it's probably the largest cooler that will fit in it. Your manual might tell you what the max cooler size it can handle is. Or do some searching on like pc part picker and see if someone combined your case and the cooler.

It looks like my case is about the same size as yours (7.29"). I saw on one video that the person had to install something to the bottom of the motherboard for it to mount? Is that necessary? My case doesn't really have any space on the other side for that.

A different question you might be able to help me out with. How many fans do I need? My CPU only had a space for one fan, and my case fans don't have adapters so I only have one of the two running. Is the other one necessary? If so what do I need to buy so that I can get it running?

My computer blew up on me. I'm 99% sure its just a blown PSU capacitor but I have no way of testing it so I have to go to Best Buy. Grumble grumble.

I love paying them $75 to tell me what I already suspect is the problem.

Yes, you have to install the mount onto the bottom. It's how the heatsink is supported and mounts to the motherboard. There is room. Your motherboard is on risers so it'll fit fine. I'd do your research and make sure it'll fit height-wise as not all cases are equal, but yours is within 0.01" of mine so I think you're alright.

As for the fans, that would all depend on your motherboard and case. I have a lower-front intake fan and a upper-back exhaust fan, and have a push-pull with the CPU cooler. Some people will go overboard and say you need a half dozen case fans or something, but that is excessive unless your case is mismanaged and you need extra airflow by any means necessary. One of my case fans has a 3-pin fan to molex connector that works as well and would help if you lack extra dedicated fan connectors. If your case is managed well, you might be fine with an intake on the CPU and exhaust out the back and let the fans pull the air into the case. Just monitor temps and see what happens. You can always add more later if it doesn't do the job.

Actually, I took it in and said look can you hook this up to a power supply and tell me if it's getting power?

They did, for free, I bought a PSU and it was back up and running in ~20 minutes.

When my MB blew up I took it to them because it still seemed like it was trying to do something but nothing was really happening. They had it for a day or so and then told me the MB was toast.

They had to take it in though and said there was no other way to do it.. I wasn't particularly happy about it but I wanted to know for sure what was wrong before I went out buying parts willy nilly.

Should my HD7870 video card be able to pass-through 5.1 audio? I am wanting to hook my PC up in my living room this weekend and finally play it on the surround sound. I've had Dead Space to play for two years now and heard that it's great with surround sound.

The Silverstone Raven RVZ01 released this past week. Very close to pulling the trigger on this. You can fit any size graphics card in there, its an ITX case, and custom cooling can also be achieved.

Pretty much would transfer all my components to this case, just need to get an SFX PSU and a ITX mobo. I'd finally would get a SSD to add to this along with my 1TB 3.5 inch HDD.

I am probably screwed here, but what would be the best way to go about recovering a Windows 7 key? The Microsoft sticker on the back of the laptop is gone and the hard drive won't boot past the Windows splash screen. Can't get to safe mode either. It's for my buddy and I figure the hard drive has gone to crap so we were just going to get a new one and reinstall Windows. If the key isn't recoverable he'll just buy a new laptop.
