So true. Mainstream country has gone downhill since Garth Brooks left. Its funny. I was watching a rerun of 60 Minutes with Loretta Lynn and Jack White. The two did an entire album together titled "Van Lear Rose;" won a Grammy for best duet. It achieved critical acclaim from across the board, with the exception of the country scene. Mainstream country/Nashville completely snubbed Lynn and her album, which is really sad considering she helped shape country.

That's no surprise. Nashville pretty much denied Johnny Cash's existence when he started working with Rick Rubin. Cash's American albums are some of the best country albums you'll ever hear, imo...

Cash's last album (The Man Comes Around) is one of the (if not the) best album I own.

I tried to avoid jumping in, but:

- Radiohead, Eminem, The Beastie Boys, Janis Joplin, and new-Metallica are overrated
- Bubba Sparxxx is underrated
- Emo music is horrible
- 50% of rock, country, and rap/r&b music is utter crap.
- 25% of rock, country, and rap/r&b music is average.
- 15% of rock, country, and rap/r&b music is better than average.
- 10% of rock, country, and rap/r&b music is good.

How I know many disagree with this notion is the fact that there are thousands of millionares in this country that have made it big by rapping, not singing.

Oh yeah, nobody thinks that rap is good because it sells. That's a pretty ignorant thing to say and whoever told you that that is the reason for why people like rap is an idiot.

You act like singing is something special.

It is. It takes talent to be able to carry a tune, not be flat, not be sharp, have a dynamic range, and keep an appropriate rhythm and tempo. Why do you think a person like Celine Dion is rich beyond her wildest dreams? It is because she knows how to sing and do all the things I mentioned above. People value great singers. Otherwise they would not buy their music.

I'm by no means a rap apologist but singers are a dime a dozen.

So are rappers. Let me ask you a question. In your opinion, does it take more talent to sing, or talent to rap?

Just because someone can sing doesn't mean they make good music.

True. This is also why some people make their career WRITING songs for people who CAN sing. Not every singer must be a writer too in order to be respected.

In fact, too many singers depend solely on their voice and are backed up by little, if any, musical accompaniment.

I guess I am not understanding what your point is with this one. Are you saying that it is a NEGATIVE that someone relies on their talented voice to make a song great? Please explain.

Nirvana/Kurt Cobain were so over rated it's sickening. Had he not died that band would've faded away like Pearl Jam and nobody would've cared. Dieing is great for business in music.

I agree. Same thing with that Tupac guy and the big, fat rapper guy…what the hell was his name…Notorious F-A-T or something like that. Croaking was the best thing for their popularity too. As a matter of fact, I did not hear of either one of them until they made the news with their early departure from earth.

It's gonna suck when Bob Dillon dies. He will start getting a TON of publicity, falsely claiming that he actually had talent to begin with too!
