    Agreed.

If all you do is listen to the radio, you are missing out on a lot of really great bands that will never make it to radio play.

Thats why I'm constantly looking for new bands to listen to so I can expand my musical boundaries.

I hate when you try to talk music with people and when they ask you if you like such&such band, for example Metallica or Linkin Park, and you reply that they're both overrated, unoriginal, suck, and you don't like them, they think A) You don't know anything about music. B) You don't like music. and C) You don't know what you're talking about. Pisses me off to no end when people use the argument that "they have to be good because they're on the radio," are you ****ING kidding me? First of all, all radio is is marketing; whoever pays the most gets played constantly. Second, its all about the demographic and the demographic are usually people who only listen to mainstream music because they're too lazy to dig deeper than that. Third, for the most part, the good bands are the only bands NOT played on the radio because they are artistic and original. Until some other band starts copying the original, artistic band the band will never get played in mainstream.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

But you know what, I'm perfectly fine with these bands (such as Dead Poetic, Underoath, Atreyu, Strata, Saosin, Brand New, etc) not making radio play or stations like MTV because that means these bands won't be liked just because they are the newest fad or trend in music.

If people want to listen to Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Three Doors Down, Velvet Revolver, etc and not expand their horizons, so be it but I'll be damned if I'm going to box myself in like that.

Don't get me wrong, not all radio/mainstream music is bad, such as Switchfoot, Shinedown, The Killers but the majority of it is just pure ****.

I'm fine with my taste too. Its just that it seems like nobody wants to listen to you because they don't know who your favorite bands are and it makes it really hard to communicate to the general public about good music when they have NO IDEA what good music really is.

I agree not all radio/mainstream music is bad; Foo Fighters is about as mainstream as rock bands come and somehow they have been able to stay original and ahead of other bands out there.

          Anyway, I'll continue this game:

          Metallica is overrated
Creed was the biggest rip-off since Elvis

I agree with your post. I like bands that will probably never make airplay, but I'm fine with that, because it keeps the fanbase of that band in good form. Once I see one of my favorite bands get a lot of airplay, I will support them, but the actions of the band dictate their fanbase. And bands that I like (Switchfoot, The Killers) that get a lot of airplay, I don't mind, because to me I enjoyed their music no matter of their status.

              I have more:

Mother Love Bone is the best band nobody has heard of.
Temple of the Dog is the best side-project ever.
Andy Wood was the Robert Plant of Grunge.
              Bass players are underrated.

All Rap sounds the same. It is just noise. How I know many disagree with this notion is the fact that there are thousands of millionares in this country that have made it big by rapping, not singing.
You act like singing is something special. I'm by no means a rap apologist but singers are a dime a dozen. Just because someone can sing doesn't mean they make good music. In fact, too many singers depend solely on their voice and are backed up by little, if any, musical accompaniment.

Nirvana/Kurt Cobain were so over rated it's sickening. Had he not died that band would've faded away like Pearl Jam and nobody would've cared. Dieing is great for business in music.
Metallica hasn't been relevant since 1986.
                            NiN/Trent Reznor hasn't been good since 1996.
Jimmy Page = NOT a great guitar player.

-Bruce Springsteen is one of the best singer/songwriters EVER

-The best Dave Mathews album is "Crash"

-Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Jason Boland, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Randy Rogers, Jack Ingram and co. are picking up where Robert Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Chris Christofferson left off at burning the Nashville mainstream establishment to the ground.

-most of the stuff on country music radio is total and utter crap, but there is a lot of good country music being made today (but most of the good stuff is NOT being made in Nashville)

So true. Mainstream country has gone downhill since Garth Brooks left. Its funny. I was watching a rerun of 60 Minutes with Loretta Lynn and Jack White. The two did an entire album together titled "Van Lear Rose;" won a Grammy for best duet. It achieved critical acclaim from across the board, with the exception of the country scene. Mainstream country/Nashville completely snubbed Lynn and her album, which is really sad considering she helped shape country.
