I'd like to think most people would agree on that one. I still enjoy Audioslave, but if I were to keep comparing them to Soundgarden or RATM, there's no way I'd be able to listen to them. To enjoy them, you have to take them out of context of the bands' previous careers.

EDIT:

Pearl Jam's best album was Vs, but Vitalogy has their best songs.

Yeah i figure most would, most people dont even think it is the best track on the album. But, thats the point of the thread

dont really agree with best track of the past 5 but its definetly one of if not my favorite track of the year . jay-z murks that beat. and yeah that is the point of the thread .. good post.

I don't see it as handicapping them. I probably worded it the wrong way. If you're always comparing Audioslave to RATM or Soundgarden, of course they're not going to sound as awesome or be as good as the previous bands. That fact doesn't mean they aren't good in their own rite though. Audioslave is a totally different band with a totally different style than RATM, which I think most RATM fans dislike about them.

All rap sucks horribly with the exception of early to mid 90's west coast rap. Nu metal is horrid. This includes Linkin park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Crazy Town, Static x, Mudvayne, Slipknot. Modern radio rock is is pure crap. This includes Audioslave, Trapt, Lifehouse, Seether, Queens Of The Stone Age, 3 Doors Down, Incubus, Nickelback...pure junk. Overplayed classic rock has turned halfway listenable bands such as Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Van halen, and Pink Floyd into music that is just as annoying as Britney Spears, Christina Angularia, and the Backstreet Boys. I'd rather have my testicles eaten off by Hannibal Lecter than have to be forced to listen to AC/DC. They are possibly the worst band, with the exception of Limp Bizkit, to ever grace the planet.

If Audioslave came out 10+ years ago, and RATM/Soundgarden never existed, maybe I would listen.

I'm just saying that Audioslave isn't half as good as RATM or Soundgarden for that matter. Diet both. Yes, they have a different style/sound, but it just doesn't catch my ear.

I agree with a lot of what you said....but what I bolded, couldn't be more wrong. It is clear that all you listen to is whats on the radio. Saying all rap today "sucks" is just you being ignorant.

I really want to know how people can make these broad, sweeping statements about entire genres of music. I don't like rock but I could never say that all rock sucks. How can you say that everything in a genre is terrible when you haven't even scratched the surface of what it entails?

Maybe so, but i have alot of friends that listen to modern rap like Jay Z, Kayanee West, Eminemm, fifty cent, Mike Jones and its just downright bad. Then i pop in Doggystyle, some Ice Cube or 2-pac, maybe some NWA, and im totally blown away!

The only radio station i listen to is NPR. Its not my fault that i dislike 98 percent of rap. I hate 95 percent of rock music. I hate almost 100 percent of country. Im extremely close minded when it comes to music i guess.
