Coldplay is the most overated band of the New Millenium.

Nas's Stillmatic is on par in quality with Illmatic.

Eminem has no business touching 2pac's music.

Today's Rock music basically = soft alternative.

Rakim was a better rapper than 2pac, jay-z and Big Combined.


Mainstream America vastly overates the Beastie Boys.

Heavy Metal is the most illegimate form of Music.

Rap is better than any other genre for filling up a Cd with good songs. (I.E. Rock and metal with a few good singles and the rest of the album are fillers)

Trance and progressive house, especially progressive house, are more intricate and multi-dimensional than most people give it credit for.

Wilco is the most daring and best American rock band today.

Radiohead is terribly overrated. Pink Floyd Lite, little more.

In terms of flexibility, ability to play different styles and overall power, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains are much more influential grunge bands than Nirvana and Soundgarden.

Ryan Adams is one of the most diverse and flexible rock musicians today. Can rock, can rollick with alt-country and can play and write a great ballad.

All Southern Rappers Suck except for Lil wayne because he has a east coast type of style.

Any rapper who talks about rims sucks which is why all southern rappers suck.

Common is the most underrated rapper in the game he is lyrically better than 99% of rappers.

Jumping Jack Flash is the Roling Stone's best song
Any rap song that promotes or brags about "poppin caps in someones azz" is not cool.

Modern Metal/Punk is horrid when you consider the roots (Clash, Zep, Sabbath).

Hip-hop - aside from the occasional "good beat" - sucks!

Let me back up my second grand claim. If you look back in time at other traditionally black/african american forms of music (blues - jazz), you'll notice that the improvosation came with the form of music (that's why America considers jazz "its" genre of music). Sorry, but it wayyy too easy to use a language you've used your whole life to improvise and express the way you feel than it is to do with music. I don't disrespect all rap - I just don't consider it musically deep, no matter how "abstract" the lyrics are.

The Who never wrote a song called "Teenage Wasteland." You must be thinking of the song called "Baba O'Riley," which includes "teenage wasteland" in the chorus.

No doubt. I'll be 40 at the end of this month, and I love trance and progressive house. I can get into some goa/psychedelic when in the right mood, too.

What genre of electronic do you enjoy? Any favorite DJ's? I like Sasha, Nick Warren, James Lauer (Chicago based), John Digweed, but the one cat who I think is gifted beyond belief is Christopher Lobsinger, a 17-year-old DJ/producer from San Francisco who is building a hell of a reputation in the house/proggy house scene.

A few more to add:

The Jerry Garcia Band was better than the Grateful Dead.

Widespread Panic is the best jam band alive today, and that includes the recently departed Phish.

Guns 'N Roses had a bigger effect on knocking rock from its 1980s hair band/p*ssy rock slumber than Nirvana and grunge did. G 'N R would have been one of the greatest rock bands of all time if it didn't self-destruct. It's still better than about 98 percent of the popular hard rock bands today.
