Not thrilled about the thought of having to throw down for a PS3 after having waited these long months since the 360 dropped... I'm thinking that those who have the money and are vigilant to preorder ASAP won't have that much trouble, no?
Also, could someone confirm this for me... Will the PS3 require an HDMI connection for blu ray movies as was stated originally? I think that's what I read a few pages back, and that'd be a big help for me seeing as how I've already spent big money to hook my tv up to the one slot I have allocated for those big money cables.Comment

The PS2 launched in the states with approximately 500k available. Unless you pre-ordered early or camped out, you couldn't get one. Basically, its going to be like the 360. If you want one, I'd say take the day off from work and go to your local Best Buy around 5am or earlier on launch day and settle in for a wait. If you wait longer than that you'll be chasing after them all through Christmas in hopes of scoring one right when stores receive new shipments.
I camped out for a PS2 after being turned away at a 24 hour Wal-Mart. It was actually a lot of fun as it was me and 4 buddies of mine. The other people in line were all really cool and it was a diverse crowd, not a bunch of nerds. We had a game of pick-up football in the parking lot that lasted awhile and tired everyone out enough to sleep. Best Buy had a catering truck come in the morning with hot food and coffee which was really cool. I was in high school then though and my desire to have the latest video game console isn't what it used to be so I wouldn't even consider it but for those of you who really want a PS3 go for it. Especially if you live in a warm climate, I live in New England and it got pretty damn cold that night.Comment

No, its not required. If you want the best picture quality possible you'll want to get one though.

That said, camping out is not an option. I want to throw down a lot of money @ EB, all upfront, and spend an evening in line after work waiting for my PS3. For those who preordered the 360, if you had a system guaranteed by being vigilant early on, was it really that much of a struggle?? I'd think about taking a day off if I could be one of the first to preorder, but after that, I'd like to think a large sum of money and some urgency out of the gate could spare me the great lengths.......... ?Comment

I highly doubt that, where I'm going is where I grew up and a place I frequent. I can purchase my product, leave it the store and just pull my vehicle right up to the door approx. 6ft away and load my goods and drive off.Comment

Just read this news...very disappointing. I was definately going to wait in line and get one, if not preorder, but now, I'm on the fence until a killer app like MGS4 or FFXIII. The fact that waiting in line, damn early (for the HDMI system) just doesn't appeal anymore, especially with a wife and kid at home. And since you can't upgrade the **** system like the 360 (w/ harddrives and cables available seperately) the risk of them being out of the HDMI system just isn't worth the wait.
Oh well, at least the 360 will tide me over until Spring, though I hope that I can still snag a Wii.
Out of curiosity though, how many 360's were out at launch? Any firm numbers? I still might be able to pick up the HDMI PS3 via bundle online, if they offer bundle packages throughout the winter like with the 360.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

I have no worries about getting a PS3 as I know the manager at my local Microplay and he has me at the top of the list. When I got the PS2 in 2000 he did the same so it won't have any effect on me. Sony though has done everything to try and screw things up also I worry about what else Sony is not telling us as I would not be surprised if their was more bad news."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Just read this news...very disappointing. I was definately going to wait in line and get one, if not preorder, but now, I'm on the fence until a killer app like MGS4 or FFXIII. I got a 360 on launch day but that was only because I happened to go to the Best Buy in Bellevue, WA where Microsoft was throwing their launch party. I got there about 4 pm for the midnight opening and there was already a couple of hundred people in line so I almost decided to bag it. I started talking to one of the store employees, though, who said Bill Gates would be there that night for the launch and that they might be getting several hundred more units in for the occasion. I got in line and watched the movie Troy on my laptop and after I got my number I wandered up front to watch the media circus. I was only a couple of feet away from Gates at one point although he was surrounded by a media horde. It turned out to be a lot of fun.
I definitely won't be camping out for the PS3.Comment

It's not just the HDMI (which is NOT upgradeable), I also want the Wi-Fi. I hooked up a wireless network to use with my 360, and love the fact that both PS3 and Wii will have that capability right out of the box.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams
