Oh my God, the AI teammates are freakin' idiots. LOL. I'm in act 1 and am trying to take down a high-powered gun emplacement. Of course my crack team of experts exposes themselves as soon as possible and become useless to me. I'm having a great time playing, though. Hardcore is definitely the way to go. Huge sense of accomplishment when you clear out a tough area.

I also agree. Right now, Gears is SO fresh and SO fun. Multiplayer should easily keep me interested until Rainbow Six drops. After that, I'll be switching back and forth between these two for quite a while. If I end up getting COD3 as well, it will be gaming overload.XBL: Mean Greene

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
I agree with pretty much everything you've said. The game is a refreshing change, but with the lack of gameplay options on XBL, it's only a matter of time before the novelty of chain sawing someone in half wears off. All 3 game modes are just slightly different variations of Team Deathmatch, which is disappointing. I was hoping for something more objective based.
I'll enjoy it now in small doses, but I don't see it taking away my itch to play SC and CoD3 at this point."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
I played the multiplayer for a while last night. Fun game, but I would be absolutely stunned if it had the longevity of COD3, R6V, SC, or much else. The graphics are outstanding no doubt, but the maps are bland and small, everything you can do besides aim is tied to the A button, there are practically no gameplay modes, no variety of characters, and no objective-based combat except to protect one player.
But the absolute worst thing about the game....static weapon spawns. Every map is a race for the sniper rifle or some other weapon, which is really lame. And it wouldn't be so lame if there weren't such discrepancy between default weapons and found weapons, but there is. I can stand there and shoot someone for an hour with the default rifle, but they can pop my head off with one shot? That kind of overvalues the whole "race to the weapon" thing at the start of every map.
Like I said, great graphics and a fun game. But as for longevity....nah.
The one thing I absolutely despise about Halo 2, multiplayer, is how if you have a standard gun you have to pump an entire round into someone to put them down. Even more so if they have a stupid shield on.
This is disappointing to hear. But now I'm grateful I didn't run out and impulsively buy the game.Comment

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
So i go back to the same EB to pick up the game.
Morons....lol
So I ask for Gears, and the guy tells me they dont have anymore copies.
Then he says all they have are preorders. Opens up this huge wall cabinet, and there sits literally the entire stock of GoW copies.
Then he proceeds to tell me people should just preorder and how customers get angry with them because they wont release any of the copies they have. It was a large amount just sitting there and Im thinking,"why are they turning down money that walks in here. Obviously people who preordered could care less because you have so many copies just sitting there"
Then he tries to get me to preorder Halo3, and by this time I just tell him to give me COD3 so I can hurry up and leave. Good for me that there is a gamestop across the street so I go there and pick up Gears with no problem.
Im definitely done with EB
A store near me had 200+ preordersEA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Gears is the best game since RE:4 and people complain. Open up your check book and buy the game."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
This is honestly the greatest game I have ever played. It really makes you think and employ proper strategy. The computer A.I. is some of the best that I have ever played against. This game should get Game of the Year, hands down.Comment
