Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread

Two main items that could have made this game better...

    1. Having an option for your character to not stick to cover when running. It seems that my character goes into the cover animation at the worst times. This makes it difficult to navigate through a map.

    Here's what I would do...

Example: Press A to activate run and hold the L trigger while running to avoid unwanted cover animations from happening. (Make sense?)

    2. Give me a darn crosshair when in cover and in the third person view! Here's the problem I'm having... Whenever I take cover and I attempt to fire at the enemy, my first shots are way off because I have no idea where I'm aiming. I would be nice to at least have a crosshair that fades.

lol - that brought back some laughs. Knew it was Terry-something. Gotta look up the commercials now

In the GOW Collector's Edition, they show him doing voiceovers and he looks like he's gotten even BIGGER. So big that CliffB says they adjusted the Cole character to give him bigger arms. Dude is hilarious

This game owns me - absolutely love it

I think you're talking about the "blind shooting" in the game. You should be spraying all over the place and not very accurate.

I am not trying to be a difficult, but I really haven't had any serious issues with holding down A and getting sucked into things. I happened to me once last night on multiplayer, but it was because I ran straight into a car. As long as you avoid the cover areas, you shouldn't have this happen, at least in my experience.

I also like the fact that you are "blind" shooting when in cover....since your character isn't looking at the target, they shouldn't be able to have any aiming help either....

Thing is Dook, I think you bought the game moreso for HUM vs HUM matches.

Its not the same for everyone here in that respect. Im a straight single player guy, and if not that, I love co-op matches when people really work together. Probably an effect from early GR days with 16 players.

Im sure the game doesn't suck, but it seems people can't enjoy anything they buy anymore for long without finding some reason not to like it.

I can understand Sully with his feelings about the game seeming linear. Some people love that stuff, and others dont. Its all preference.

If people would just give off an unbiased impression about what the gameplay is like first, then you would be able to see for yourself if its for you or not.

Its a drag sometimes for a game that is probably good to get shot down because you can almost look forward to playing nothing coming to OS nowadays. Its the reason i dont go in the 2K bugs thread anymore. It helps too.

I'll decided if this game is a keeper for me once I play it. Marvel passed the test for me although some had issues but its their forte. I'm having a blast with the game. You might have more fun in R6 which im getting that as well, but i want to enjoy all of them single player if I can.

I agree about the getting sucked into things, it happens, but doesn't seem that often to me and it's not that big of a deal.

I also agree about the "blind" shooting as well.

No. Perhaps you're misunderstanding me. When I'm in cover, I can see the around me. However, there isn't some kind of indicator that I can use to point in the direction I want to shoot in once I temporarily pop up and shoot from cover.

Example: In the Rainbox Six demo, the cross hair appears even during cover. This makes it more effective point and shoot from cover.

Overall, is the game worth the money? Meaning, does it hold its own. I try to stay away from comparing different style games, even if they are in the same genre.

The thing is, I am trying to build my 360 collection back up and have the ability to purchase 3 games this month. I already re-paid Rainbow Vegas and will most likely be picking up Smack vs Raw. The only decision I have left is GOW or COD3. They both sound good, very hard decision.

I think it's safe to say that if you like shooters, it's a must buy. If you don't like shooters and curiousity is getting the best of you, rent it.

Out of the box it's a solid fun (online) game and after hearing CliffyB (Game Designer), he'll push for online add on's in the future. (I heard a patch will be released on 11/12.)

Thanks..let me also add that I think i will finally have some time to play online. I have owned Xbox Live since the inception, but may have only been online a little over 30 times. I had a few bad experiences that detered me from going on with anyone other than my friends. Sad part is, none of my friends can afford Xbox Live.

I appreciate the direction....I'll pick up GOW, like I said earlier, because it looks fun

I think that is more of a balance thing for multiplayer so you can't line up a shot before you jump out of cover.

But if you really want something to aim with find a post-it note and rip off a very tiny square from the sticky part.

Hold the aim button on the controller and put the little post it square right in the middle of the aim reticule.

This game is in my Top 10 all time best videogames that I have ever played. All people are doing is complaining that this game didn't live up to expectations and hype, I don't know what everyone was expecting. Like USF said, this has to be the best game since RE4. I do have issues with the game of course as it's nowhere near being perfect, but man does it immerse you into the story/environments. You start to really care for your team.

I still haven't tried multiplayer and most likely I'll be doing that tonight. But the singleplayer is great and if it weren't for Guitar Hero 2 being out this week also, splitting time is killing me because both are so great.
