Not really, not if you've played a chord on the B and E strings of a real guitar where you bar it with your index finger? Different ways to play chords, but if you're used to the motion (without the hook, naturally) it's pretty natural.

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
Actually, I don't do that. Either I barre the entire fret, or I'll use two fingers for those strings. But hooking? I've honestly never heard of that approach before. Seems like an unneeded practice is all that I'm saying... should be just as easy using your index and middle fingers on this game.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
Somewhat off topic, I just bought GH 1 for PS2 online with an extra guitar. I've never played the original or multiplayer so I'm pumped to try it out.

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
This is the only thread in OS history where TCrouch's fingering technique can be discussed without a TOS violationI keed I keed of course.
I'm having a blast surfing the net right now and watching my wife play. She's completely destroying me at this gameComment

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
My best (and I just got it after reading this post, because it reminded me I needed to kill this song dead) is a 241,011 97% - and I made stupid mistakes that I know I can avoid.
The scoring is probably a little different between the 360 and PS2 (probably some changes in the note charts), so it's not like you could really compare them anyway.Last edited by bcruise; 04-05-2007, 11:22 PM.Comment

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
I tried to move up to medium with the blue fret in place now...it was too hard for me at this moment. So I'm staying at easy. At least until I can five star all the songs.
I'm having a blast with it and in the end, that's all that matters.Comment

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
I 5 starred all the easy songs last night, and now I'm about 1/2 done going back through and 5 starring all the medium songs. Having an absolute blast going through it.Comment

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
So glad to see this game really getting its due... definitely my favorite game in a looooong time. Nice that everyone has a chance to check it out, and hopefully they will keep cranking out different editions down the road.
For those asking about using your pinky, I would HIGHLY advise that you do use it for the blue fret on Medium. It will feel odd for a while and you may do worse at first, but you will NEED to use your pinky if you have any hope of surviving Hard and Expert. My buddy got away with not using his pinky on Medium when we first got this game, but it make the jump to Hard a lot more difficult for him and to this day he still stinks at expert. Anyway, just my opinion as a guitar hero "expert" (at least I like to think so!).LET'S GO FLYERS, YANKEES, DOLPHINS!!!Comment

Re: 360 Guitar Hero Impressions
Honestly, I'd advise using your ring finger for blue, middle for yellow, and index for red as far as hand placement and then use your index finger to go between red and green since it's the easiest finger to move for almost everybody. If you use your pinky for blue, as soon as you bump to hard or expert you have to relearn all the buttons...it's much more difficult. Instead of your pinky for blue, all of a sudden your pinky is supposed to be for orange and your ring finger for blue when you've played it the other way the entire time. So now you've not only got all 5 fret buttons, but the muscle memory you've developed on how to hit the various colored notes won't mean squat since you have to learn everything all over again. Just my opinion, of course.Comment
