    Re: Fallout 3

Maybe it's just me, but I got out of the vault and now... I have no earthly idea what I'm supposed to do. I have walked around this huge brown area w/ some sort of radioactive stuff in a few spots here and there, no idea what that does btw, it said I was infected, but didn't seem to see anything obvious wrong w/ me.

What am I supposed to do? It gives off no signals of which way to go or what to do. I've seen a rat and 1 soldier and I've been walking around for 30 minutes. I don't get this game at all. Help please?

Go to Megaton. It tells you to go to Megaton in the "quests" area of your pipboy.

Megaton is just to the right of Vault 101 when you leave the vault. You can see it once you walk out a bit.

Yeah, and there you can end up getting a quest or two.

Another part of the game is just exploring. Your little compass will have unfilled in arrows when places you can discover are nearby, once discovered you can fast travel there.

I know what you feel though, it takes a hour or two until you have more quests to do and things feel like they're "clicking" so to speak. Once you're more into the game and more comfortable it'll be second nature and you'll have so many different options to choose from. It's not a game that handholds you though. That's what takes time to get used to. You can just go out and find some place to investigate and end up finding a quest, cool weapon, etc.

Follow the instructions the game gives you. I don't mean to be an *** by that - just that the game will always tell you what you need to do. When you leave the vault it tells you what your quest is and even tells you exactly how to get there. You just need to follow the arrow at the bottom left.

Tab open your Pipboy, click on the 3rd button for Data, then you can look at your quests and the map. If you click on a quest to make it your primary one, then it puts a marker on your target location. And you can look at the map to see where it is.

When you close your pipboy, look at the little direction indicator on the bottom left. There will be a sort of arrow - and as you turn around, it'll move around too - line up the arrow with the center of the bar, and that means you're facing the location. Walk forward and just keep in line with it.

When you leave the vault, it automatically sets to the "find megaton" quest, and the arrow should already be leading you towards it.

my unarmed is around 85 or so...I did this because I love the power first so much, even before the game came out and I saw it in that video. I also have spiked knuckles, and sometimes when the coast is clear I'll go bare hands. Melee would probably have more weapon choices, and would be satisfying, but there ain't no power fist! There is nothing like blowing up a super mutant with your fist..

I'm a lot like you though and love to snipe and sneak around but am generally good (besides my klepto habbit, but c'mon a lot of these people are psycho wastelanders!) and my next playthrough will be to murder almost everyone in my path hopefully for profit.

I'm a good character, but he was just asking for it too badly - his body is in pieces. I did that a long time ago though, I've now crossed the 60 hour mark!

Thanks for that hint guys, I've got to finish up that whole quest tree at some point. I don't like that guy either, even though I am good.

I rationalize it as "well, he's a dirty scumbag" and am able to sleep at night

I really like this game. I wish it could have some sort of semi randomly generated quests to keep things going though. Or at least have some buildings respawn baddies after a certain amount of in-game time passes. Something more than just the wasteland respawning encounters, just something to keep it going.

I started a new character on very hard and the sweet spot for me in this game is right around level 7-11 where you are just powerful enough to do some damage, but just weak enough that you can't go everywhere and expect to live so you have to do some sneaking around. Ammo management is still an issue and you have to make some tough decisions on what you want to carry. Once you get into the teens levels the game becomes a heck of a lot easier.

I'd love to see them take this engine and make an old west genre game. Add a cover system, lose the bug fights and monsters, and add a horse. A game where you could become sheriff or be a train robber or something old west-like.

Anyways, anyone have any post apocalyptic book reccomendations? Other than King's The Stand?
