And don't feel bad Heelfan, I was pretty overwhelmed when I started playing too, especially with combat. The game doesn’t give you much of a tutorial when it comes to fighting. In the beginning I would treat all battles like a 3rd person shooter like GRAW and just try to find cover and shoot. I would never use the RB to bring up the menu to use any of my powers. However, I HIGHLY recommend that you begin getting into the habit of using RB a lot in battle. Not only does it pause the battle so that you can take a breather and plan your next move, but you can tell your teammates what abilities to use and which enemy to use them on, etc. Very helpful. Once I started doing that, I actually began enjoying battles a lot more. And it becomes 2nd nature eventually, just give it time.

yeah, I am not in the habit of using RB button either. Need to remember that. I have myself (soldier), Tali and the Bio guy (forgot his name) so I have all 3 areas covered. Now I am really over whelmed. I got onto the ship and there are a lot of areas to go to. I know what galaxy I want to go to but there are several planets within each one so I guess I need to look through them all.And don't feel bad Heelfan, I was pretty overwhelmed when I started playing too, especially with combat. Re: Mass Effect Discussion
You have to do it yourself. But your team's skill is applied to you. So even if you have no open crate ability, if one of your partners does you can still open it.Comment

In each system there is usually only one planet that you can actually land on. Sometimes you can scan the other ones, but don't worry, you'll only be able to land on one of them.yeah, I am not in the habit of using RB button either. Need to remember that. Also, when you are viewing a system from the galaxy map, especially those that cantain an asteroid belt, wait about 5 seconds before moving the curson around and sometimes you will see one of the asteroids "shimmer", and you can then scan it and find alot of rare elements/minerals/artifacts to complete some of the secondary objectives you might unlock.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
Keep the tips coming fellas. They are a huge help as I just started the game! I just landed on a planet on the Artemus Tau system.
I thought COD4 was video game crack. This is worse. There is just so much info. I feel like I have to reread my whole journal every time I start the game.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
In my experience, there are a maximum of 3 mineral deposits on any one planet, so there's no point looking at every inch of the planet if you've already found all 3 of them. I normally look at the map after I've done the missions on the planet to see where I haven't driven and where the deposits I've already found are placed (if I've found some)... then just go to the areas you don't think you've driven (criss-cross the map if possible) and you should find all of the mineral deposits, Matriarch's Writings, etc. for the side quests.
Also, make sure to take someone with high electronics skill with you whenever you explore a new planet, as the crashed probes that you often find require decently high electronics skill to open. Whenever I'm venturing out to a new planet, I make sure that I have someone with high decryption/electronics with me.
Also, selling your crappy items soon after you get better versions will make it much easier to manage your inventory. If you let things pile up, you'll end up hitting the 150 limit without realizing it and losing out on the better stuff (you have to convert it to Omnigel when oyu find somehting and are already at the limit). So when you get your Striker III, drop the Striker II unless someone else needs it... and remember that updrades count against your limit also, so clean out the armor and weapons upgrades as well if you need to make room.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
Quick question, my personality style I picked is ruthless, more renegade. However my first play though I want to make choices as I would and my Paragon meter is filling way more than the renagade meter. Does this have any major impact that I picked ruthless but I am doing "good" things? If there are any spoilers in my question than I'll just find out myself.
My second play through though I will pick all renegade answers.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
Ruthless effects your background and people will make refrences to certain events.
Sole-Survivor - You were the only soldier left after your team was sent in an decimated by Thresher Maws (quest tie-in later on)
War Hero - You pretty much rallied a bunch of people and held the line in the Blitz. (quest tie-in later on)
Ruthless - When the Alliance Space fleet was found to be mostly useless against an underground base of pirates being funded by Batarians (maybe it was the Batarians in there) you led your men down there and got the job done but lost most of the soldiers following you. (quest tie-in but not as good as the other two).
You'll come across those quests no matter which one you pick but dialogue will be tailored for you.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
That's great advice Stumbleweed. I did the same thing when chartering planets. And the inventory management can be a real pain. Towards the end I would find so many items that I would constantly have to sell them off and it was always a chore. It was almost like they were just giving items away towards the end of the game. You get a ton of items after every battle and it seemed like every crate I would open had two pieces or armor, three weapons, and some upgrades. lol. At least I sold everything off and got the achievement for having over a million credits. In my experience, there are a maximum of 3 mineral deposits on any one planet, so there's no point looking at every inch of the planet if you've already found all 3 of them. Re: Mass Effect Discussion
I'm picking this game up today and thinking of becoming an Engineer. In any RPG I've always been the warrior/fighter/soldier type. What can I expect when being an engineer?Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
You'll basically be able to own any geth thing, because engineer is basically like, ranged attacks against tech things. All your "powers" will do a fair amount of damage, plus they have an additional effect. eg. Overload: you do 50 damage points, and you overload the opponents shield, leaving him more vulnerable to attacks. You'll only be able to use the pistol as a weapon if you don't have the achievements for any other weapons, but the pistol can be relatively potent. Your sheilds are always going to be very high, but you'll only wear light armor. overall, it's pretty fun and your attacks always look like explosions (whereas a boitic's attacks look like energy balls)Comment
