    Re: Guitar Hero 4

I'm enjoying the Wii version a TON. Good variety in the songs...just a little miffed that the entire Death Magnetic album isn't availble (just 3 songs).

Just for fun, I wanted to see how much I could save of DLC: my Wii still had about 1150 "blocks" left on it, and the 2 GB SD card I threw in (that had a bunch of mp3 files and files I needed for teaching) had 9555 blocks available. Given that songs ran in the 150 block range, I think I'll be okay on the SD card side.

I started a career on guitar on Expert (just got the game only) and have probably played about 20 songs so far. I'm finally ready to purchase the Tool gig (need $8000 to do so), and the Zak Wylde battle is killing me. I've been happy with the songs for the most part, but a couple are serious duds (just repetitive chord strumming): Obstacle 1 (100% first try on Expert, and I don't even know the song) and Beastie Boys was boring until the end. I like the types of songs that have decent note movement and not just in the insane solo sections (i.e. Welcome to the Jungle on GH3). The early gigs have the insanely easy songs...but they've gotten trickier as I've moved through (I think I've done 6 gigs).

My Les Paul is working fine with this, and the purple note sections aren't that bad. I can see where the slider would work a little better to get from green to orange pretty quickly.

I'm happy about the $50 I paid for this game. No regrets. If you have any questions for the Wii version specifically (or GH:WT in general), ask away. Just remember, I bought the game only, and am using my Les Pauls from GH3.

Have you got No Rain on the Wii for DL? All the sites and stuff say it's out but it's not on 360 or PS3. Do you have the music store on there? The update today added it on PS3.

I thought Obstacle 1 was the most boring song so far,not as boring as PDA at least. I think maybe that band just isn't good for these games.

No Rain is available, though I haven't downloaded it (and probably won't). There's about 10-12 songs available for the Wii, with Metallica being the only artist with more than 1 song (they have 3: Cyanide, Judas Kiss, and My Apocalypse).

Harmonix was the first to the dance with the full band setup and they did it right. RB2 is nothing but an improvement.

I don't have room in my living room for another set of plastic instruments, so since I'm having a blast in RB2, I have no reason to go with GHWT. Besides, 15 minutes with it at a Best Buy kiosk was enough to convince me that I'm not missing anything. I felt nothing different with it as it felt just like playing GH3.
I just started playing Guitar Hero, since I was able to get GH2 off ebay real cheap. I'm a total noob to this genre, but everyone seemingly like Rock Band more.

I don't mind just playing guitar, so are these games that much different, besides the songs on each.

GH1 and 2 were made by the same people that made RB.

Overcharting is very ugly and frustrating. There is a noticeable drop in quality from GH2 to GH3. For me personally, GH2 is STILL loads of fun, and GH3 was just a very mildly entertaining couple of hours for a few cheap achievement points.

That was what really turned me. If you play music, you can't help but eye roll when you see more notes than what is really played, and it does hurt the fun factor a lot.

I was seriously thinking about grabbing GH4 for the song creator and the drums, but it seems there are some issues. Now I'll wait it out until they get things under control. I'll be keeping an eye on the instrument stability(especially the drums), the DLC and the created song content. IGN claims that there is too much of a midi feel to the created song sounds because of limited "base" samples and no velocity. No velocity on guitar is awful. Even Line 6 can't save that.

So far the drums appear to be very stable.

Has anyone had any issues with the drum besides the hi hat going off by itself once in awhile?

No issues with the drums for me, they are great. So is the guitar. As expected the instruments at top notch imo. Gameplay, eh. Its fun but...

I also picked up RB2 with this game. I have played RB1. 90% of the night we played GH:WT. We had lots of fun. Then we put in RB...and it was obvious how better layed out the game is. This is not a surpise to me at all. GH:WT is fun but it doesn't have the little things like RB2 does.

The WT drums worked great with RB2. Just had to take off the orange cymbal so there was only 4 pads to hit.

Basically, GH is on Madden level. No matter what, it will sale. Odds are they'll still be able to throw tons of cash at these bands, some being exclusive.
The one thing that does work in Rock Band's favor in this argument is that they and not Guitar Hero are backed by EA, so they can throw a ton of cash right back if need be.

It'll be interesting to see the competition between these two series play out, that's for sure.

Activision is larger than EA, and has more money to throw around to the few franchises they actually care about.

I have had no issues with the new guitar and I think it is the best guitar on tthe market. I love the new star power button and the larger whammy bar. I did not get a chance to try out the drums yet but will be doing that as soon as I get home from work in case they are defective. you would think after the trouble RB had with its instruments there would be some better quality control
